Call for Chapter Proposals for Information Technology Applications
for Crisis Response and Management

The book, entitled Information Technology Applications for Crisis
Response and Management, provides a multi-disciplinary perspective
on current and cutting-edge research exploring and extending our
understanding of the use of information systems and information
technology to support responses to crises of all kinds—accidental,
intentional, and acts of nature. It includes issues that are
technical, cognitive, organizational, and human-focused.
Submissions are encouraged that focus on the design, development,
implementation, use, and evaluation of IS technologies and
methodologies to support crisis response and management. These can
be revealed though quantitative, qualitative, or case-based
methods.
Possible Topics include:
* Command and control for crisis management
* Crisis planning, exercises, gaming, and training
* Application of emerging technologies, e.g., blockchain, internet
of things (IoT), smart cities, etc.
* Big data analytics, data fusion, modeling, representation, and
visualization
* Decision making and judgment
* Research methods, and modeling approaches
* Rescue, recovery, and humanitarian operations
* Information systems strategy and operations, infrastructures,
and interoperability
* Disaster risk reduction, risk management, ad-hoc, and sensor
networks
* Early warning and emergency response systems, including
reactions to those systems
* Unanticipated challenges and responses
* Positive vs. negative outcomes
* Geographical information systems
* Globalization and development issues
* Virtual teams and organizations; collaborative and intelligent
systems
* Communication Technologies
* Healthcare and health information systems
* Human-computer interaction
Chapter Proposal Submissions:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a chapter
proposal on or before January 20, 2020, to Dr. Jon W. Beard at
jwbeard@iastate.edu<mailto:jwbeard@iastate.edu> . The
proposal should include:
* Proposed title for the chapter
* Summary of the chapter (appx. 250 words)
* Paragraph (appx. 50 words) on how the chapter relates to the
book’s description and goals
* Author bio (appx. 150 words), plus contact information, title,
and affiliation
The completed chapter is expected to have a length of
approximately 10,000 words, including illustrations, tables,
references, and any other accompanying materials.
Tentative Important Dates:
Call for Chapter Proposals Open – January 5, 2020
Proposal Submission Deadline – January 20, 2020
Notification of Proposal Acceptance – January 27, 2020
Chapter Submissions for Review and Review/Acceptance – Early
Summer 2020
Target Book Release – Fall 2020
