Dear
colleagues,
We are happy
to
announce a call for submissions for the
Special
Issue
"Smart Cities: IoT and Sustainability as Drivers for Future
Developments"
(ISSN 2071-1050).
Public
entities,
cities, and municipalities are progressively acknowledging that
the effects
of climate change, energy policy, and the continual advancement
of digital
technologies necessitate a recalibration of resource utilization
and practical
measures. To this end, smart solutions are often deployed, or
Internet
of Things technologies are used to support changes in the way
resources
and energies are traded, e.g., by controlling appliances to make
better
use of renewable energy. The aim of this journal is to examine
and discuss
the latest contributions related to the Internet of Things and
sustainability
trends for smart cities. The authors are encouraged to showcase
sample
applications, technological advancements, and intelligent
solutions that
facilitate enhanced resource and/or data management.
The
intelligent
handling of data will be a key prerequisite for creating
transparency and,
at the same time, supporting resource-saving actions; for
example, the
requirement to install smart meters and the availability of
dynamic tariffs
is not automatically associated with an improvement in resource
consumption.
Scientists
are
called upon to present their own new ideas and approaches to
solutions
and, above all, to address problems that have not yet been
solved.
The call for
submissions
for "Smart Cities: IoT and Sustainability as Drivers for Future
Developments",
belonging to the section "Sustainable Urban and Rural
Development",
focuses on the following topics in the background of Smart
Cities and sustainability:
Applications
from
the field of the Internet of Things or the use of data science
and AI methods
for dealing with big data, e.g., environmental data or open data
as a basis
for citizen participation in sustainable decisions.
Approaches,
applications,
and solutions for sustainable energy supply or sustainable
management of
resources in smart cities e.g., use of renewable energy sources,
water
management in rural areas (extreme weather events)
Approaches,
applications,
and solutions to improve the circular economy or logistics in
smart cities.
Case studies
and
best practices are also welcome for submission in the
aforementioned topics.
