Journal of Systems and Software Special Issue on Software
Engineering Education in the era of Hybrid Work
https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-systems-and-software/about/call-for-papers
Important Dates
Due: 13 January 2023
Publication: September/October 2023
Software engineering education needs to prepare software engineers
to work in hybrid environments. Providing courses that feature an
authentic experience poses several challenges, such as hybrid
infrastructures and lack of engagement. Software engineering
educators need to understand these issues and recognize possible
solutions. Papers in this special issue will present innovative
and scientifically-sound approaches to provide authentic and
immersed experiences to current and future software professionals.
All submissions must explicitly include an empirical approach such
as reporting on controlled experiments or case studies, or
comparing to other approaches already in practice. Submissions on
research which has been empirically validated are particularly
encouraged.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Relevant education topics related to hybrid work in software
engineering
- Methods, tools and practices for hybrid work. For example,
coordination, synchronization, and collaboration practices in
hybrid teams
- Global software engineering research as an exemplar for teaching
software engineering in the hybrid workplace
- Adaptations of methods and tools for hybrid work
- Skills and mentality for hybrid work
- Awareness of the factors that can be affected by hybrid work,
such as inequality between hybrid and non-hybrid employees, fewer
socialization, positive workplace culture, well-being
Innovative education approaches for hybrid work in software
engineering
- Technologies, tools, and strategies for innovative education on
hybrid work.
- Agile way of teaching (e.g., collaborative learning, reflective
learning, active interactions among learners)
- Formative assessment and metrics for hybrid classrooms: methods
of evaluating, assessing, and measuring the competencies and
skills of in a hybrid education environment.
- Featuring an authentic experience of hybrid work (e.g., hybrid
work in large scale development, management of split teams)
- Theoretical foundation that could underpin training innovative
approaches to hybrid work.
