Dear Computing Educator,
We invite you to submit a short position statement (1-2 pages) or full paper (up to 5 pages) to the 2009 Symposium on "Integrating Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) into the Undergraduate Computing Curriculum." This one-day symposium will be held in Chattanooga, TN on March, 4, 2009 as a pre-conference activity in conjunction with the 2009 SIGCSE conference (http://www.cs.arizona.edu/groups/sigcse09/). It is sponsored by the NSF-funded Humanitarian FOSS Project (http://hfoss.org http://hfoss.org/ ).
The goal of the symposium is to bring together educators, FOSS practitioners, and curriculum designers to discuss successful strategies for incorporating FOSS, as an object of study, into the undergraduate curriculum. The symposium is designed to be highly interactive, taking place entirely in plenary session. It will be keynoted by Bruce Perens, co-founder of the Open Source Initiative and editor of the Bruce Perens Open Source Series of titles from O'Reilly publishing. In addition to paper presentations, the symposium will feature invited speakers from industry and academia, an open-ended round-table discussion, and a panel of CS curriculum experts.
The symposium deadlines are as follows:
Submissions: November 10th, 2008
Acceptance: December 15th, 2008
Final version: January 16th, 2009
