Conference Focus ---------------- The ministry of higher educution of Syrian Arabic Republic, the Syrian Computer Society, the German Computer Society and the German-Syrian Computer Society announce the ET2EB Conference, which will be held in Damascus, Homs, Lattakia and Aleppo in April 2002. The focus of the conference is to bring together researchers and practioneers for discussion of computer science topics which are strongly relevant for countries which a growing potential in information technology, like Syria. Based on the commonly available Internet-Technology a borderless development of information systems offers the opportunity to set up a network of software companies in the different parts of the world to establish virtual enterprises. In that way the existing pool of highly motivated and educated computer scientists can solve bottlenecks in established software developing companies. On the other hand the open cultural perspective can support a joined view for the world. Here the very topical field of E-Business should be the starting point of common initiatives. For E-Business concepts and results of numerous fields of computer science are highly relevant. For the following topics we like to invite contributions or suggestions for Workshops

The main focus of the conference is to set up a community which provides a global and integrated view to this topics and to start inititiaves in Syria. For that the conference offers a wide range of additional activities, e.g. open discussions, the visit of different universities in Syria, historical and cultural places. The conference is supported by the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education. All costs for flight, accommodation, hosting and cultural activies during the conference are included in the conference fee.
Contributions, Important Dates ------------------------------ Paper Contributions, Suggestions for Workshops, Projects, Panel Discussions should be sent to Jubran Rajub (rajub@iti.cs.uni-magdeburg.de) until February 15th, 2002. Suggestions and abstracts should not exceed two pages. The notification of acceptance is announce for the February 28th, 2002. The final papers have to be submitted until March 15th, 2002, otherwise the contribution can not be published in the proceedings. Submitted papers must be free of copyright. Since the audience is very different to other conferences, also papers presented before will be accepted as contributions.
