CALL FOR PAPERS
*HICSS 51January 3-6, 2018 *Hilton Waikoloa Village Big Island, Hawaii
*MINI-TRACK: Analytics in Support of Continuous Knowledge Creation*
The exponential growth of organizational storage has led to a focus on Big Data and the demand for individual’s capable of agilely moving between the data flows and extracting both operational information and knowledge from this ever-increasing store of data. These capabilities have been attributed to the role of Data Scientist. With data being the foundation for the development of information and knowledge, this mini-track seeks a focus on both an organizational and pedagogical perspective for the development and recognition of the Data Scientist. The skill set of the Data Scientist has focused on the abilities of programming, business insights and statistical model building. However, with the rapid accumulation of data stores in organizations, the transfer of data to information and knowledge has become more complex and prior techniques must give way to processes that allow continuous knowledge creation.
Paper submissions are encouraged that: further expand and explain the role of the data scientist in organizational knowledge creation; develop and expand the skill set of the data scientist role with respect to maintaining knowledge creation in an organization; explain the techniques necessary to ensure continuous knowledge creation. Paper topics include, but are not limited to:
· Theoretical contributions to the recognition of the data scientist
· Development frameworks for the use of Big Data flows
· Management and construction of disparate data sources
· Pedagogical requirements for creating the data scientist in Industry and Universities
· Empirical studies converting Big Data to actionable information and knowledge
· Case Studies on data scientist success
· Methodologies for determining the frequency and granularity of data stream snapshots necessary for knowledge creation
