Description: Collaboration technologies can be used in healthcare research, practice, and management. Although managerial use of advanced collaborative technologies in healthcare has been reported in the literature, the use of the technology in research and clinical practice has not been studied extensively. Geographically dispersed health professionals can use collaboration technology to communicate with each other, review patient records, manage workflows, and improve the delivery of patient care. Similarly, geographically non-collocated researchers can collaborate with each other. Besides some descriptive studies, most of the current studies on collaboration technology in healthcare focus on the technological architecture of collaborative healthcare systems. This mini-track invites research papers on the use of collaboration technology in healthcare. Two major directions of research on the use of collaboration technology in healthcare are of interest to information systems (IS) and healthcare professionals. The study of the conceptual framework and technological architecture of collaborative systems in healthcare can focus on the functional and social needs of the healthcare teams, the supports for collaboration processes, the security of shared medical records, and the efficient communication and processing of information in the health network. Another strand of research can explore the effects of the use of collaboration technologies on the delivery of patient care. These can be empirical studies that can focus on the healthcare tasks-technology fit, the effectiveness of collaborative healthcare teams, and the organizational impacts of collaborative technologies.
Suggested topics for the mini-track include, but are not limited to: � Conceptual framework of collaborative healthcare systems � Technical architecture of the collaborative systems for healthcare � Processes of collaboration in healthcare teams � Functionalities of technologies to support collaboration in healthcare teams � Task-technology fit of collaboration systems in healthcare systems � Appropriation of collaboration technologies in healthcare teams � Information and knowledge sharing in healthcare teams � Shared data and knowledge repositories in collaborative healthcare teams � Security of shared medical records � Intelligent systems and collaborative healthcare � Socio-technical issues in collaborative healthcare systems � Empirical studies to assess the effectiveness of the use of collaboration technologies in healthcare teams � Empirical studies on the organizational impact of collaborative healthcare systems
