Subject: [AISWorld] AMCIS 2020 CFP - Computational Social Science
Research through Analytics minitrack
Date: Sat, 22 Feb 2020 15:11:16 -0800
From: Au Vo <auvo1001(a)gmail.com>
To: This is the AISWorld List Server <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Dear Colleagues:
Please consider submitting a manuscript to the Computational Social
Science Research through Analytics minitrack under the AMCIS 2020 Data
Science and Analytics for Decision Support Track. AMCIS 2020 will take
place in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 12-16. The online submission
system opens on January 6 and closes on February 28. Following is a
short description of our minitrack and if you have any other questions,
do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you in Salt
Lake City in 2020.
Computational social science research has garnered much interest from
multiple disciplines through the use of massive, multi-faceted, and
authentic data. A recent trend in understanding social phenomena using
computational social science research, especially through the use of
analytics has led to many discoveries of, and confirmation of hypotheses
and theories. The interdisciplinary nature of computational social
science research is suitable for our field, for Information Systems has
the ability to demonstrate both rigor and relevance of answering social
science questions through innovative use of data analytics. As a
discipline, Information Systems enable the collection, processing, and
analyzing trace data, which are event-based records of activities of
transactions that could be found in systems across organizations and the
Internet. Therefore, our field are poised to explicate interesting and
valuable insights.
Thanks to the implosion in data analytics tools such as data mining,
machine learning, artificial intelligence, researchers have the ability
to augment understanding of existing problems and elucidate current
perplexing issues. Large-scale problems are no longer a hard-to-reach
problem, but an interesting one with a plethora of research directions.
In general, the guideline for computational research has percolated
through various disciplines via leading research outlets like Nature,
Information Systems Research, Management Information Systems Quarterly,
and Communications of the ACM have started to solicit calls in this
nascent research field to attract more researchers to work on
interesting problems and theory building from data.
This minitrack encourages research on the utilization of data to
explore, and potentially answer social phenomena. Submissions may focus
on descriptive research process, novel algorithm designs, questions
forming, new and interesting directions in computational social science.
In addition, nascent theory forming through a bottom up approach using
data is especially encouraged. Research in any domains are welcome,
including but not pertaining only to, persuasion, ethics, equality,
social benefit distribution, and humanitarian efforts.
Below is a list of recommended topics, however, other relevant topics
are also welcome:
* Algorithm designs in Computational Social Science
* Computational Social Science strategies and research processes
* The role of Information Systems in Computational Social Science
* Computational Social Science interdisciplinary research
* Computational Social Science with Big Data applications
* Computational Social Science in changing and/or influencing human
behaviors
* Ethics of Computational Social Science research on human behaviors
* Nascent theory and hypothesis forming through the use of data
(quantitative grounded theory)

Dear colleagues,
We invite you to submit your manuscripts to the Cyber Crime, Cyber
Terrorism, and Hacker Culture minitrack under the Information Security
and Privacy (SIGSEC) track at AMCIS 2020. The conference will take place
in Salt Lake City, UT, from August 12 to 16. Please see below the
description of the minitrack. The deadline for submissions is February 28.
The growing number of terrorist incidents over the past few decades have
resulted in a great deal of interest in how to act against acts of
terrorism within our cyber space. As our society continues to increase
its dependence on technology, the threat posed to nations from
terrorists is no longer just physical but also expands to our digital
world. This minitrack aims to shed more light on the issue of cyber
crime and cyber terrorism by also exploring hacker culture and the
motivations of attackers. Some possible topics to consider would be:
– Dimensions of cyber crime
– Motivation and organization of hackers/hacking groups

Call for Papers
Conference: Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2020),
August 12-16, 2020, Salt Lake City, Utah
Track: Organizational Transformation and Information Systems
Minitrack: Digital Transformation through Data Analytics, Artificial
Intelligence and Other Epistemic
Technologies<https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Famcis2020…>
(see Minitrack #6).
Please consider submitting your paper to our minitrack on how analytics,
AI and other Epistemic Technologies transform organizing at AMCIS 2020.
This minitrack aims to explore how the use of new epistemic technologies
in organizations influence key aspects of organizing, including
processes of information processing, insight generation, decision
making, organizational structuring, and strategizing. We define
epistemic technologies as tools that play a key part in the ongoing
construction of knowledge (Anthony 2018). Such technologies include, for
example, big data analytics tools, Artificial Intelligence tools,
augmented reality applications, and technologies that leverage the
Internet of Things (IoT). The reliance of these new epistemic
technologies on data and algorithms poses unique challenges for
organizations and has given rise to several debates in the academic
community (Günther et al. 2017). The emergence of new epistemic
technologies calls for a better understanding of distinct digital
practices that are enacted as organizations actually leverage such
technologies in practice (Baiyere et al. 2017), as well as how this may
or may not allow organizations to actually create social and economic
value (Sumbal et al. 2019).
To understand how organizations may leverage such technologies requires
examinations of the processes around the information value chain (Abbasi
et al. 2016) as they take place in organizational context. The minitrack
is open to any methodology that suitably examines the phenomenon
including quantitative, qualitative as well as conceptual papers. We
highly value work that takes a longitudinal perspective and aims to
understand how organizations, and people, actually work with epistemic
technologies in practice. In doing so, scholars may rely on different
types of data and a range of (mixed) methods, such as qualitative
observations, document content analysis, and advanced analytical
techniques to model and understand people's actions and behavior.
Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary studies that bridge the
domains of organizational theory and information systems as well as
information sciences. Broadly the topics of interest include but are not
limited to the following:
* Data-driven decision-making v/s intuition-based decision-making in
organizations
* New epistemic technologies and transformation of organizational
decision-making processes
* New epistemic technologies and transformation of organizational
decision-making structure
* New epistemic technologies and transformation of strategizing /
strategy making processes
* New epistemic technologies and transformation of organizational as
well as individual identity
* New epistemic technologies and the emergence of data science as a new
occupation
* New epistemic technologies and insights generation processes

= NeHuAI-2020
= 1st International Workshop on New Foundations for Human-Centered AI
= June 9, Santiago de Compostela, Spain (Part of ECAI-2020)
======================================================================
* Submission deadline extended to March 10 (strict) *
SYNOPSIS
--------
In June 2018, the European Commission has appointed a "AI High Level
Expert Group" (AI-HLEG) to support the implementation of the European
Strategy on Artificial Intelligence. One of the first results of the
AI-HLEG has been to deliver ethics guidelines on Artificial Intelligence
(https://ec.europa.eu/futurium/en/ai-alliance-consultation/guidelines).
These guidelines put forward a human-centered approach to AI, and list
seven key requirements that human-centered, trustworthy AI systems
should meet, summarized by the following headers:
1. Human agency and oversight
2. Technical robustness and safety
3. Privacy and data governance
4. Transparency
5. Diversity, non-discrimination and fairness
6. Societal and environmental wellbeing
7. Accountability
Many of today's most popular AI methods, however, fail to meet these
guidelines: making them compliant is a scientific endeavor that is as
crucial as it is challenging and stimulating. Systems based on deep
learning are a case in point: while these systems often provide
impressive results, their ability to _explain_ these results to the user
is very limited, challenging requirements 4 and 7; in most cases we lack
ways to formally _verify_ their correctness and assess their boundary
conditions, challenging requirement 2; and we don't yet have methods to
allow humans to _collaboratively_ influence or question their decisions,
challenging requirement 1. Similar criticalities are present in many
other popular AI methods.
This full day workshop will collectively address the fundamental
questions of what are the scientific and technological gaps that we have
to fill in order to make AI systems _human-centered_ in terms of the
above guidelines.

Introduction
With the ever-increasing popularity of service computing technology, a
wide range of computational resources or services (e.g., news, food and
commodities) are emerging rapidly on the Web (Dastjerdi et al., 2016;
Tao et al., 2014), which benefit the development, deployment and
maintenance of lightweight service-oriented business systems
significantly (Jula et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2016).
Through selecting or composing appropriate web services, an enterprise
or organization can accelerate its system development, optimize system
performances and gain more profits (Liu et al., 2017; Shih et al., 2019;
Zhang et al., 2016).
The recently emerged new computing paradigms (e.g., cloud, edge and
fog), on one hand, widen the scope of applications of services computing
technology (Deng et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2017; Mahmud et al., 2018),
on the other hand bring additional difficulties and challenges in terms
of resource load (Vaquero et al., 2014; Shi et al., 2016), energy cost
(Roman et al., 2018), link switch (Zhang et al., 2018), quality
optimization (Guan et al., 2018; Gong et al., 2018), and so on.
Therefore, it becomes a necessity to combine the advantages of both the
services computing technology and the cloud/edge/fog computing
paradigms. This special session aims to highlight the cutting-edge
research and applications related to the “Service Computing Innovations
in the Cloud, Edge and Fog Environment”.
