Tutorials and workshops will be held on the days of 6-8 November 2021, prior to the KR main technical program. The attendance of tutorials is complimentary to all KR registered participants. Workshop attendance will be subject to payment of a workshop fee, which is separate from that of the main conference. ** Submission Requirements for Tutorial Proposals ** KR tutorials are half-day or (exceptionally) full-day events that introduce general or special topics in KR and relevant neighboring areas. They can be first introductions to an established area or an emerging field, but also advanced courses on specialised methods or new approaches. The content should be adequately established and balanced, and not be limited to advertising an individual research work or product. A focus on specific tools and methodologies can still be useful to offer concrete examples and hands-on activities to participants. Each tutorial proposal should contain the following information: - Short title, presenters and proposed length (half-day is recommended, but an argument can be made for a full-day tutorial) - A half-page introduction to the tutorial's subject and relevance to KR - A half-page on the target audience, prerequisite knowledge, and learning goals - One page outline of the tutorial contents and intended structure - A brief resume of each presenter including name, affiliation, email address, and evidence of scholarship in the area, mentioning relevant publications or professional experience The main duties of the tutorial organizers are: - Setup a web-page for the tutorial, which should at least include the information from the proposal, tutorial materials and related references. - Deliver the tutorial at KR 2021. Virtual presentation will be allowed. Each accepted tutorial will entitle a discount on the KR registration fee for one tutorial presenter. ** Submission Requirements for Workshop Proposals ** Workshops provide a place to exchange ideas in emerging fields in KR research and application. They can take many forms, including mini-conferences (with peer-reviewed publications), competitions, working sessions (discussions, hackathons, etc.), line-ups of invited contributions, or a mix of these. Innovative formats are welcome, but organizers must provide means of estimating attendance and required length up-front (by number of submissions, invited speakers, or early registered participants). Some of the significant issues are, for example, machine bias in law, legal responsibility in the context of autonomous transportation, the concept of electronic personhood, Big Data, autonomous weapons, the black box problem, the impact of machine agency, and machine/robot rights. All of these issues must be properly addressed in tomorrow’s legal education. This interdisciplinary conference aims to understand how to educate students in order to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge for the future labor market and to prepare well-trained legal professionals for the future. Tomorrow’s legal education must address the problem of how to regulate the development of smart technologies and robotics in order to increase the welfare of society without violating its fundamental values such as safety, security, and privacy. The conference invites contributions addressing the main challenges at the intersection of legal education, law, ethics, and smart technologies. Thank you to the special section co-editors, Craig Van Slyke, Heikki Topi, and Mary Granger. We will be adding papers as soon as they are completely through the editing processes. We have already published the first 5 papers and have more scheduled. Eventually we will have approximately 33 papers on topics ranging from adjusting to distance teaching of particular courses, particular IS content such as programming, working with teams, tactical issues such as creating engagement, and global access issues such as making sure all students have the technology to connect with the teaching content. The special section will conclude with an editorial discussing overall themes, remaining challenges, and acknowledging the hard work that went into preparing this special section in just a bit more than half a year. We believe that almost everyone teaching in the IS field from those who never taught outside the face-to-face setting to those entirely teaching remotely have learned lessons with the dramatic shift necessitated by the Covid 19 pandemic to fully computer mediated education. Our thinking is that we each learned lessons, but not the same ones. By recording and sharing our individual lessons learned (and sometimes things we learned to avoid) it is our hope that we can profit collectively from our own and each other’s new knowledge to accelerate our ability to integrate all manner of communication forms into our emergent stronger, better, and more effective teaching, curricula, and systems. On the other hand, the huge amount of biomedical information can act as valuable sources for knowledge discovery and learning algorithms. This workshop will explore both sides of the coin: we are interested in exploring effective solutions for searching over biomedical literature based on the knowledge extracted from biomedical sources. Effective search helps researchers explore the literature more conveniently, and hence helps to reduce the impact of information overload. In addition, knowledge-based search systems need mechanisms for structured, semantic-rich representation and effective use of biomedical knowledge extracted from the available data. With the emergence of unprecedented volumes of biomedical publications as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of which appear in pre-publication research repositories such as medRxiv and bioRxiv, this workshop will solicit work that address timely and pressing research challenges at the intersection of Knowledge Representation and Semantics for the purpose of searching biomedical literature. We are also interested in semantic-based retrieval techniques that enhance biomedical knowledge synthesis and systematic literature review.
