Mobile information and communication technology have become virtually
ubiquitous due to the proliferation of smartphones and tablet computers;
large sections of the society use this technology to their advantage.
However, this convenience comes along with a growing collection and
assessment of the users’ personal data. Research has shown that most
users are often unaware of this increasing infringement of their
privacy. Nevertheless, there is a group of users that expresses concern
about the collection of their personal data. These users might be highly
motivated to protect their data but lack the ability and technical
expertise to do so. In order to support both user groups in raising
their awareness of privacy and protecting their data, an
interdisciplinary approach is needed to develop privacy-enhancing
technologies. These technologies should address not only the technical
aspect, but also aspects related to usability, psychology, economy,
sociology, philosophy and law.
This interdisciplinary workshop, thus, seeks submissions from a wide
range of disciplines (computer science, usability, law, economics,
psychology, sociology, philosophy, ethics, …) that cover the various
aspects of security, privacy and trust.

Call for papers
16th TEAR 2021 - New frontiers
In collaboration with IEEE CBI 2021 and IEEE EDOC 2021
Since 2006 the international TEAR workshop series
<http://www.tear-series.org/> has brought together Enterprise Architecture
(EA) researchers and practitioners from different research communities, and
has provided a forum to present EA research results from academia and
practice and to discuss future EA research directions. This year’s TEAR
workshop will see a new online format, while addressing new frontiers in
EA-related research.
New frontiers in EA-related research
The field of Enterprise Architecture (EA) has gained considerable maturity
over the last years. EA significantly contributes to organizations’ need to
adapt increasingly fast to changing customer requirements and business
goals.
New societal and technological (including AI, IoT, Digital Twins, etc)
trends now provide new challenges and opportunities to the field of EA.
What remains core to EA is the need for a multi-disciplinary approach
aiming for a coherent design of enterprises across all relevant aspects,
such as services, processes, IT support, the role of human actors, etc.
Therefore, there is a need to consider new frontiers in EA research, taking
us into the direction of what might be termed “Enterprise Governance 4.0”.
Therefore this year’s TEAR workshop has a broadened scope, including
several new topics:
-
Enterprise governance 4.0 - Including the use of Enterprise Digital
Twins, AI and IoT to support the governance and management of enterprises,
and their coherence, in all their facets.
-
Enterprise cyber risk management - Managing cyber risks, which include
e.g. cyber security risks, but also other risks, such as the negative
consequences of AI-based errors, systemic ripple effects, etc.
-
Digital transformation - Consequences for EA (or the role of EA in)
digital transformation, including e.g. migration to data stream
architectures, big data, IoT, etc.
-
Enterprise architecture decision-making and decision-execution -
Including drivers for change, architecture governance, stakeholder
management, etc.
-
Enterprise architecture modeling and analysis - Including modeling
languages, model-based analysis and analytics, reference models,
viewpoints, human-model interaction, etc.
-
Relevant research approaches in terms of research methodologies and
theories.
-
Cases and implementations
We cordially invite submissions of three types of paper, reporting on
original research results related to EA that have not been accepted or
submitted for publication elsewhere:
1.
Regular research papers. These papers will be reviewed based on their
scientific and technical contribution, originality, and relevance.
2.
Emergent research papers. These papers involve novel research ideas and
challenges (by doctoral students, practitioners, or senior researchers)
related to EA.
3.
Experience reports. These papers reflect practical and personal industry
experiences of EA practitioners, including EA related challenges seen and
the approach(es) taken. These papers are advised to follow the STARR
template (Situation, Tasks, Actions, Results, and Reflection).
New workshop format
The workshop is organized, in a collaboration between the IEEE CBI 2021
<https://cbi2021.events.unibz.it/> (September 1-3) and the IEEE EDOC 2021
(October 25-29) conferences. The workshop part of TEAR 2021 will take place
during CBI 2021 (both events will take place online) in terms of a writer's
workshop format that more explicitly focuses on in-depth discussions of the
paper submissions with the aim to improve these papers further. During the
writer's workshop the strengths and weaknesses of the different papers will
be discussed, while accentuating positive aspects and suggesting
improvements. As such, an active participation of the authors and audience
is expected.
Improved (in the sense of maturing and / or extending) high-quality papers
will be accepted to an EA track at the EDOC 2021 conference. Based on the
paper submitted to the writer’s workshop, and the presentations and
discussions during the writer’s workshop, a selection of papers will be
made which potentially qualify for EDOC 2021 inclusion. These papers will
be shepherded by an experienced reviewer from the EA community, towards
potential EDOC 2021 inclusion.
This new workshop format aims to help authors in maturing their papers,
while also creating a more open and constructive review and feedback
process.

ABSTRACT
Playing games is an inherent part of children’s lives as it impacts several
aspects of their physical and mental development. Technological advances
have been manifesting new and exciting avenues of interaction when children
play games, ranging from board and card games, to videogames that are
played on mobile devices, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) headsets,
robotic systems, and social agents. These games encompass a wide range of
applications aiming to provide educational benefits, promote development,
enhance well-being, or simply enjoy leisure time. Along with the fun and
excitement, these advancements also bring unique challenges in the game
design process due to the inclusion of complex technology, the maximization
of the players’ engagement and expectations and interests of the children.
The player-centric approach of co-designing games with the target audience
has a unique position as it involves creating the games for and with the
children, allowing them to act as an equal stakeholder rather than simple
users or informants. This half-day workshop aims to expose the researchers
to collaborative techniques used in game design to create interactive and
playful activities for children that involve contemporary technologies such
as AR/VR and social agents.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND TOPICS OF INTEREST
This half-day workshop aims to expose researchers to collaborative
techniques used in game design to create interactive and playful activities
for children that involve contemporary technologies such as AR/VR and
social agents. We plan to expose participants to multiple user modelling
(e.g., user personas) and ideation techniques (e.g., body storming) used to
engage children as design partners. Our ultimate goal is to illustrate how
technology-agnostic the game design process can be when collaborative and
participatory design techniques are used.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
- Educational games for children using technology
- Playful scenarios using social agents
- Studies in human-robot interaction involving games
- Games for children who need special support
- Studies in human-computer interaction involving games
- Game design for children using virtual/physical agents

April 2021 (6th edition)
Date: Mon, 12 Apr 2021 10:21:06 +0300
From: Ioanna Koroni <ioannakoroni(a)csd.auth.gr>
To: computational.science(a)lists.iccsa.org
Dear Machine Learning and Deep Neural Networks engineers, scientists and
enthusiasts,
you are welcomed to register in this CVML Short e-course on 'Machine
Learning and Deep Neural Networks', 27-28th April 2021:
https://icarus.csd.auth.gr/spring-cvml-short-course-machine-learning-and-dee
p-neural-networks/
It will take place as a two-day e-course (due to COVID-19 circumstances),
hosted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki,
Greece, providing a series of live lectures delivered through a
tele-education platform. They will be complemented with on-line video
recorded lectures and lecture pdfs, to facilitate international participants
having time difference issues and to enable you to study at own pace. You
can also self-assess your knowledge, by filling appropriate questionnaires
(one per lecture). You will be provided programming exercises to improve
your programming skills.
It is part of the very successful CVML short course series that took place
in the last three years.
Course description 'Machine Learning and Deep Neural Networks'
The short e-course consists of 16 1-hour live lectures organized in two
Parts (1 Part per day):
Part A lectures (8 hours) provide an in-depth presentation of Deep Neural
Networks, which are at the forefront of AI advances today, starting with
introduction to Machine Learning. Then the cornerstone DNN theory and
technologies are presented: a) Artificial Neural Networks, Perceptron; b)
Multilayer perceptron, Backpropagation; c) Deep neural networks. Both data
classification and regression problems are treated. Convolutional NNs; d)
Recurrent Neural Networks; e) Attention and Transformers. Applications
follow in several image analysis, computer vision and autonomous system
applications, notably: a) Deep learning for object detection and b) Deep
Semantic Image Segmentation. Finally, Generative Adversarial Networks are
presented that promise to revolutionize the way we create media/arts, while
seriously threatening our democracy with fake data creation and spread.
Part B lectures (8 hours) provide fan in-depth presentation of Machine
Learning to complement DNNs. Unsupervised Learning (Data Clustering) is
first detailed, allowing us to find structure and extract concepts/knowledge
from huge high-dimensionality data. Then Supervised Learning (Data
Classification) techniques are presented, notably: a) Decision surfaces
(whose special case is DNNs and SVMs) and b) Distance based classification.
Dimensionality reduction techniques are overviewed, allowing us to visualize
high-dimensionality data found in most applications, ranging from Medicine
to Financial Engineering. Kernel methods are presented that can boost
performance of any linear ML operation (e.g., PCA, K-means etc). Bayesian
learning provides a unified theoretical framework that can encompass many of
the ML approaches. Deep Reinforcement Learning is also presented, as it is
an essential element in novel Robotics/Control and other decision-making
application domains. Finally, CVML programming tools (e.g., DNN frameworks,
BLAS/cuBLAS, DNN and CV libraries) are overviewed, as they allow fast
application of all the above knowledge in almost any application domain.

*ACM Hypertext and Social Media Conference 2021*
***“Hypertext in a Multimodal World”*
*/A Virtual Event/*
Hosted by: ADAPT Centre,Trinity College Dublin (Ireland)
30 August – 2 September 2021
Website: https://ht.acm.org/ht2021 <https://ht.acm.org/ht2021/>
The hypertext paradigm has transformed the way we store and transfer
knowledge and how we think about information and access it. We access
the same sources via multiple devices, ranging from smart watches and
smart phones to laptops. Information and transactions become ever more
visual, with video increasingly replacing traditional text-based web
pages. Particularly, we use interactive hypertext, news feeds and videos
for getting things done, such as planning a trip, managing our finances,
interacting with colleagues, friends and family, being productive and
creative.
At Hypertext 2021, we aim to further discuss, reflect, investigate and
look forward on all of these developments, from the mixed perspectives
of technology, users and society.
·What trends can be observed?
·What societal issues arise or can now be investigated?
·How can the user experience be further improved?
·What alternative, creative and fun novel applications does hypertext
enable and facilitate?
We welcome the following types of submissions:
A. Main Conference Tracks
B. Late Results and Showcase (LBR) Track
C. Doctoral Consortium (DC)Track
D. Workshops and Exhibitions (more information to follow on the website)
*The Main Tracks for ACMHT21’s CFP are:*

CSCW 2021 (held virtually) invites panel proposals to become part of the
conference between 23rd and 27th October 2021.
Important Dates
Friday, June 11, 2021: Deadline for submissions due 23:59 Anywhere
on Earth (AoE) time.
Friday, July 23, 2021: Notification of acceptance.
Friday, August 6, 2021: Camera-ready submissions due 23:59 AoE
Saturday – Wednesday, October 23-27, 2021: CSCW Conference
What is a Panel?
A panel is a collection of people discussing a topic important to our
field with energy, insight, and verve. Great panels are an excellent way
to generate debate, raise new and interesting issues at CSCW, and hear
multiple points of view on a given topic. CSCW panels are a forum for
discussing provocative, controversial, innovative, emerging,
boundary-spanning, and boundary-breaking issues.
While paper sessions provide detailed discussions of recently completed
work, panels provide an opportunity to hear from researchers in the
field about what is on the horizon—or what is already here but not yet
recognized, acknowledged, or discussed.
Criteria for Successful Panels
The best panels provide opportunities for audience participation. We
especially encourage proposals for panels that:
Discuss relevant, important, and critical topics
Engage the audience and provoke discussion
Bring several disciplines, methods, or approaches into productive
conversation
Represent a diversity of individuals, who can bring multiple
perspectives to the topic
We also invite submitters to not only form panels with close colleagues
who share similar points of view but also to reach out to prospective
panelists from across the CSCW community and beyond. Feel free to
contact other CSCW scholars, or use media like the #cscw2021 Twitter
hashtag, or CSCW Community, CSCW Meta Facebook groups to try and find
panelists who might want to discuss a particular topic from various
approaches. We are also interested in panels that include representation
from practitioners, activists, and scholars from other fields that may
provide additional insight into the topic.
Special Topics for 2021
The panels chairs are especially interested in proposals around the
following topics:
Structural inequality and CSCW’s role in countering historical
injustice
Speculative design and data future(s)
Social computing and COVID-19
Ways that CSCW researchers can impact policy and inform policymaking
Potential Formats for 2021
CSCW 2021 is a virtual conference. We believe that presents both
challenges and opportunities for panels and we are open to a range of
formats for panels. As a result, we request that anyone proposing a
panel describe the proposed format as well as the topic or content. We
encourage organizers to be both creative and reasonable in their
proposals and to consider the labor and technology requirements they
would need for their panel to be successful. Here are a couple of ideas
for structuring virtual panels, and we invite organizers to share their
own ideas:
“Traditional” synchronous panels held virtually using standard
video conferencing.
Short, asynchronous video presentations from each panelist (5 min
max) paired with synchronous component so that participants and panels
can interact
A virtual conversation between panelists with chat-based audience
Q&A using a podcasting platform.
The panel chairs are happy to discuss possibilities with proposers ahead
of submission and to stay in touch as details about the conference
become clear.
Submitting a Proposal
Panels proposals must be submitted by the submission deadline and each
proposal should include an Extended Abstract submitted as a PDF.
The extended abstract should be a maximum of 7 pages (not including
references) in the new single columns ACM Master Article Submission
Templates. This is the same template used for full papers and not the
former landscape template used for extended abstract submissions at CSCW.
Within the 7-page constraint, proposals should include:
Overview of the panel’s topic(s) and its relevance to the CSCW
community
Proposed structure and format of the panel, including how panel
organizers will:
Encourage interaction with the audience
Ensure the panel is accessible to all participants (see
ACCESS tips for ensuring accessibility)
Whether and for how long panelists expect synchronous interaction
One-paragraph biographical sketches of the panelists including
names, affiliations, and describing their expertise
Any technical requirements
Panel submissions should be e-mailed to the Panels Co-Chairs at
panels2021(a)cscw.acm.org <mailto:panels2021@cscw.acm.org>.
All questions should be directed to panels2021(a)cscw.acm.org
<mailto:panels2021@cscw.acm.org>.
