Call for Papers: Track “IS Innovation Adoption and Diffusion”
31st European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) – co-creating
sustainable digital futures, June 11^th to 16^th , 2023, Kristiansand,
Norway, https://ecis2023.no/ <https://ecis2023.no/>

Christoph Weinert, University of Bamberg
Hamed Qahri-Saremi, Colorado State University
Since its inception, the field of IS has made significant strides in
understanding the range of issues impacting the implementation and use
of IT/IS innovations in various settings. However, this last decade has
witnessed unprecedented changes with major global issues showing how
divided and fragile the world is. To address the economic, societal and
environmental challenges presented, the UN set out an ambitious set of
goals (17 SDGs), many of which can only be achieved through IT/IS
innovation, and the adoption, use and diffusion of such innovations. The
unrelenting pace of technological innovation and new and emerging
information systems and technologies, including smartphones, social
media, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, 5G, AR/VR,
IoT, drones etc., also provides tremendous opportunity for change. Over
the last years, nations, societies, environments and people have shown
incredible ability to adopt and adapt to technology innovation and bring
about change. At the same time, nations, societies and organisations are
seeking ways to leverage, use and diffuse IT/IS innovations that promote
sustainability at all levels, and improve lives. As we reflect on the
challenges and need to ensure a sustainable future, the role of IT/IS in
promoting inclusive, resilient and sustainable innovation by reshaping
national economies, organizational operations, societies, the
environment and individuals’ lives, requires attention.
The extant literature on IT/IS innovation, adoption and diffusion has
advanced our knowledge of how IT/IS can be successfully implemented in
ways that improve organisational operations. However, addressing the
larger economic, societal and environmental challenges before us
requires reflection, exploration and rethinking the theories, methods
and contexts that have dominated adoption research in the last three
decades. This calls for new theories and methodologies or ways of
engaging and reshaping existing theories/methodologies to address the
complexities of divergent contexts.
This track invites research that provides fresh theoretical and
methodological perspectives on IT/IS innovation, adoption,
implementation, use and diffusion. We especially encourage contributions
that propose new theoretical perspectives, and methodological approaches
to understanding adoption, implementation, use and diffusion of IT/IS
innovations for a sustainable future. Studies that use novel conceptual,
analytical, design-oriented, or empirical approaches, and describe
theoretically original and practically relevant research are welcome.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
* Organizational, societal and individual adoption, use and
discontinuance of digital technologies
* Adoption, implementation, use and diffusion of digital
technologies for inclusivity, equity, and sustainability at all levels
* Feature-level IT adoption, implementation, use und diffusion
* Enablers and inhibitors of IT adoption, implementation, use and
diffusion
* Sustainable IT adoption, implementation and use for nations,
organizations, societies, environments and individuals
* Multi-level analysis of IT adoption, implementation, use and diffusion
* Longitudinal investigation of dynamics of IT adoption,
implementation, use and diffusion
* Innovative uses of digital technologies and impacts (both negative
and positive) on nations, organizations, societies, the environment
and individuals
* Multidisciplinary perspectives on acceptance, implementation, use
and diffusion of IT/IS
* New theoretical perspectives on, and methodological approaches to
examining acceptance, implementation, use and diffusion of IT/IS
* Co-creation of successful IT/IS adoption and use experiences.

*Track Description*
Social media have become part of the work and life of billions of humans
around the globe. Social media platforms facilitate paradigm shifts in
the ways we develop relationships, communicate with each other,
collaborate, procure goods and services, and exchange information. They
allow anyone to virtually share information with a global audience.
The ubiquitous nature of social media use requires a better
understanding of the role and long-term consequences of this phenomenon
for digital transformation on individual, organizational and societal
levels.
On the one hand, proponents argue that social media promote creation of
social capital, result in increased interconnectedness, or facilitate
empowerment. In line with the conference theme, social media can hence
contribute to co-creating a sustainable future. On the other hand,
opponents express strong concerns over the dangers of social media. The
sheer quantity and the sensitivity of the information users disclose
gives rise to strong privacy concerns. Other undesirable developments
include distraction, addiction, depression, mood disorders. In companies
the multivocality, afforded by social media, can yield tensions for
organizational coherence. Finally, the phenomenon of fake news has
recently emerged as a dangerous development, posing significant
challenges for platform providers and users. Considering both positive
and negative impacts of social media, managers and policy-makers find
themselves confronted with a complex choice of whether these platforms
should be regulated and, if so, how.
This track seeks submissions examining the role social media is playing
in transforming the networked society and businesses at large. We
especially encourage research that reaches out beyond IS theories, is
grounded in multiple reference disciplines and applies new intriguing
perspectives to document and understand the transformational impact of
Social Media and Digital Work.
Topics include but are not limited to:
* Theories about Social Media and Digital Work
* Digital Leadership and Virtual Teams
* Social channels of enterprise knowledge sharing and collaborative work
* Co-existence and interweaving of different online and offline (social)
communication networks in companies
* Blurring boundaries of private and business (e.g. Consumerization,
Shadow IT)
* Social media-enabled business models
* Organizational networking with social media and collaboration technologies
* User behaviour on social media and collaboration platforms (e.g.
co-creation)
* Success and “health” of online social communities
* Socialness of and in social media and collaboration platforms
* The development and use of social media analytics
* Digital methods for understanding collaboration via social media (e.g.
design science approaches, the computational turn; big data methods)
* Critical perspectives on social media (e.g. social and information
overload; technostress)
* Societal impact of social media and digital collaboration
* Social media and fake news, misinformation, disinformation
* Social media in times of crises
*IMPORTANT DATES:*
* Paper submission deadline: November 17th, 2022
* Notification of provisional acceptance: February 28th, 2023
* Submission of final version: March 31st, 2023

Subject: [AISWorld] Call for Papers. International Journal of Public
Sector Management. Special Issue: Technology and digitization in service
to meet user needs
Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2022 22:09:25 +0200
From: Manuel Pedro Rodríguez Bolívar <manuelp(a)ugr.es>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org
Dear Colleagues,
Information technology effects are nowadays evident in, literally, all
aspects of social and economic life. Digital technologies, and
especially emerging technologies such as social media, big data,
Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, blockchain and artificial
intelligence (AI), can affect data production and dissemination. The
relation between digital technologies and accounting has already
attracted considerable interest in the private sector, while in the
public sector, there is a dearth of relevant studies (Agostino et al.,
2020; Agostino et al., 2021). The use of technology in public sector
reporting has covered so far a few possible research topics. Early
studies focused on the web as a means through which citizens would get
regular accurate information on public finances (Caba Pérez et al.,
2005) and its consideration as a tool that the public could use to
continuously assess government agencies through everyday interaction
(Rodríguez Bolívar et al. 2007). More recently, there are studies that
have assessed citizens' preferences regarding the way the information is
presented. More specifically, there are research works dealing with
popular report presentation (Cohen et al., 2017), whether smart cities
adopt IT-enhanced means in relation to financial or non-financial
reporting (Cohen and Karatzimas, forthcoming) or whether the use of
infographics increases financial statements understandability (Cohen et
al., 2021). In the last years, the implementation of emerging
technologies on the public sector is opening new avenues for changing
both the roles of stakeholders and the way these stakeholders reach the
financial and non-financial reporting. Indeed, the use of technology as
a facilitator for both financial and non-financial reporting to meet
user needs shows significant prospects. Currently, big data attract
public administration interest related to users’ needs (Ju et al., 2018;
Ingrams, 2019), while the use of social media by administrations to
bring reporting to citizens’ mobile phones and
tablets is escalating (Giacomini et al., 2021). AI and the IoT are
further placed on the service of various users (de Sousa et al., 2019;
El-Haddadeh et al., 2019).
This special issue focuses on how emerging technologies and
digitalization could impact on the stakeholders role in the production
and shaping of financial and non-financial reporting in the public
sector as well as on the development of good practices in this area. The
new era challenges the content and the suitability of the traditional
lengthy pdf. reports that are available on the websites which, up to
now, are a direct transfer of the paper-world to the digital one. The
capacity of stakeholders to participate in the co-production of
information and the alternative ways of visualization (on demand) make
information more comprehensive. Technology advancements make people get
accustomed to interactive tools and personal digital assistants to
answer their queries on several matters on the spot and users of
financial information usually browse through data at their own pace and
not in a predefined order through tablets and mobile phones. This way,
report narrations based on artificial intelligence or the use of
chatbots may be features of future reporting. However, these dimensions
are likely to affect not just the format of reporting per se to meet the
user needs but also the content of the reporting irrespectively of the
type of the reports, e.g. financial reports, environmental reports,
popular reports, integrated reports, etc..
List of Topic Areas:
Financial reporting (including popular reporting and integrated
reporting) by adopting technology and digitization for multiple
stakeholders;
Non-Financial reporting (e.g. sustainability and environmental
reporting) by adopting technology and digitization for multiple
stakeholders;
Challenges in terms of IT knowledge and skills for accountants and auditors;
Public Sector reporting and big data;
The impact of the implementation of emerging technologies (Artificial
Intelligence, IoT, Blockchain, Big Data,...) on both public sector
reporting and auditing;
Digital divide and the implementation of the digitization on public
sector reporting;
Citizens' rights to information access in different electronic formats
and channels.
The deadline for submissions to the special issue is May 31, 2023. The
platform will open for submissions on January 2, 2023. Accepted papers
will be published in a Special Issue on 2024 (Vol. 37, Issue 3).
