Once any technology or methodology originates from the research community, its challenges and benefits are explored by its concrete usage in a practical setting. The application of any research in real-world use cases sets the stage for its visibility. The Applications and Deployment Track is exactly for this purpose. Fintech comprises the transformation of business processes, strategies and business models in the financial sector with digital technologies. Numerous start-up companies have launched novel services that are unrestrained by legacy systems and old business models, and have already disrupted financial markets (Goldstein, Jiang and Karolyi, 2019). Managerial roles and structures are being redefined and modified to exploit combined human and machine intelligence. New business models are emerging that could replace those of incumbents (i.e. banks, insurance companies, brokers) and today’s market leaders. These innovations are part of the broader phenomena of digital transformation and business innovation (Brynjolfsson & Mcafee, 2016). There is worldwide adoption of fintech though there are large regional variances in terms of the scale of adoption (Frost, 2020). Digital technologies such as cloud-based computing, ubiquitous mobile, tracking and sensor devices, novel algorithms (Christian & Griffiths 2017), blockchain technology (Ali /et al./, 2020; Chang /et al./, 2020), an abundance of big data and the potential of smart AI or even super-intelligent machines (Bostrom, 2017; Tegmark, 2017) continue to create new possibilities and options for the design of financial services, which are in the early stages of a radical shift in the way that they function and operate. Among the examples that point towards more automation are cryptocurrencies with smart contracts for payments and trading or AI systems with adaptive algorithms that allow image and speech recognition, expert judgement, categorization of groups and forecasting in many areas (Fry, 2018). At the same time, the potentials create risks and raise regulatory issues. The special issue encourage theoretical and empirical research on how fintech is transforming and shaping financial services. All forms of empirical research are welcome, including case study research, surveys and technical models. Distinctive and novel theoretical approaches are also encouraged. *Central issues and topics* Possible topics of submissions include, but are not limited to: 1. Organizations, individuals, and societies have been facing disruptions of different forms, natural disasters, political and social unrest, and epidemics and pandemics, affecting their normal functioning from different aspects. The past two years have witnessed enormous examples of organizations, individuals, and societies harnessing advanced information systems and technologies to survive the disruptions and even thrive afterward. For example, organizations have utilized a wide array of collaborative technologies to keep their businesses running and built increasing online presences across multiple digital channels. Individuals have embraced digital technologies into different aspects of their life, reshaping many of their working, communicating, and purchasing behaviors and habits. Changes resulted from such disruptions occur also at the society level, governments across the world have accelerated the digitization of the provision of public services. While the phenomenon with organizations, individuals, and societies using information technologies for resilience building in disruptions has become more prevalent, our understanding of it will benefit from further scientific investigation and a tight alignment to theoretical lenses used in adoption and diffusion research. The 2021 DIGIT workshop provides an opportunity for researchers to come together and generate vibrant discussions and exchanges of ideas about how organizations, individuals, and societies can harness information technologies to build resilience in and for disruptions. While papers adhering to the theme of building resilience with information technologies, research in other IT adoption and diffusion research domains are very welcome. Potential topic areas include, but are not exclusive to: - Organizational information technology adoption and diffusion to survive disruptions across different sectors and industries, such as business, education, and public services - Individual and collective technology use behaviors, such as adaptation, coping, improvisation in the presence of disruptions - Multi-level studies considering the rippling effects of disruptions and their implications for IS adoption and diffusion - Process models studying adoption, diffusion, and abandonment before and after a disruption - New theorization of how disruptions matter in IT adoption and diffusion theories at the individual, organizational, and societal levels - New qualitative, quantitative, and design-led methodological approaches to examine the dynamics of -IT adoption and diffusion in disruptions Submitted research can be conceptual, analytical, design-oriented, or empirical in nature. We realise that a fully face to face event for everyone is unlikely given the current global nature and ongoing impacts from COVID-19 and organizers are constantly monitoring the situation. LAK22 is organised by the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) with location hosts from the University of California, Irvine. LAK22 is a collaborative effort by learning analytics researchers and practitioners to share the most rigorous cutting edge work in learning analytics. The theme for the 12th annual LAK conference is Learning Analytics for Transition, Disruption and Social Change. This theme brings to the forefront both the dynamic world situation in which learning analytics now operate and the potential role of learning analytics as a driving force for change within it. In a moment when questions about transparency, fairness, equity and privacy of analytics are being brought to the forefront in many areas of application, there is both an opportunity and an imperative to engage with these issues in support of ethical pedagogical transitions and transformative social justice. In addition, as LAK itself explores changing formats for knowledge exchange and generation, this theme offers the opportunity for reflection on how to make the conference more sustainable and accessible for people around the world. The LAK conference is intended for both researchers and practitioners. We invite both researchers and practitioners of learning analytics to come and join a proactive dialogue around the future of learning analytics and its practical adoption. Implementing Change in Learning & Teaching: · Ethical issues around learning analytics: Analysis of issues and approaches to the lawful and ethical capture and use of educational data traces; tackling unintended bias and value judgements in the selection of data and algorithms; perspectives and methods that empower stakeholders. · Learning analytics adoption: Discussions and evaluations of strategies to promote and embed learning analytics initiatives in educational institutions and learning organisations. REVIEW PROCESS LAK22 will use a double-blind peer review process for all submissions except demos and the doctoral consortium (which each require elements that prevent blinding). To continue to strengthen the review process for both authors and reviewers LAK22 will have a rebuttal phase for full and short research papers in which authors will be given five days to respond to remarks and comments raised by reviewers in a maximum of 500 words. Rebuttals are optional, and there is no requirement to respond. Authors should keep in mind that papers are being evaluated as submitted and thus, responses should not propose new results or restructuring of the presentation. Therefore, rebuttals should focus on answering specific questions raised by reviewers (if any) and providing clarifications and justifications to reviewers. Meta-reviewers, senior members of the research community, make final recommendations for paper acceptance or rejection with justification to the program committee chairs after the rebuttal phase is concluded. Acceptance decisions are ultimately taken by the program committee chairs based on all available information from the review process in combination with the constraints of the allowable space in the conference program. Finally, please note that the conference timeline allows for rejected submissions to be re-submitted in revised form as poster, demo and workshop papers. PROCEEDINGS PUBLICATION Accepted full and short research papers will be included in the LAK22 conference proceedings published and archived by ACM (pending ACM approval). Other types of submissions (posters, demos, workshops, tutorials, practitioner reports and doctoral consortium) will be included in the open access LAK companion proceedings, published on SoLAR’s website. Please note at least one of the authors of each accepted submission must register for the conference by the Early Bird deadline in order for the paper to be included in the ACM or LAK Companion Proceedings.
