Hier sollen laufende bzw. kürzlich abgeschlossene Promotionsvorhaben vorgestellt, von Fachexperten der beteiligten Disziplinen kommentiert (Expertenpanel) und gemeinsam diskutiert werden. Dadurch sollen nicht nur einzelne Arbeiten unterstützt, sondern auch der Austausch zwischen Promovierenden gefördert werden. Ferner erhalten Doktorandeninnen und Doktoranden durch die vorgestellten Dissertationsprojekte Orientierungshilfen und Anregungen für die eigenen Arbeiten. Organisator des Doktorandenseminars auf der "Mensch und Computer 2021" ist die Fachgruppe CSCW und Social Computing in Kooperation mit dem Fachbereich Mensch-Computer-Interaktion. Verantwortlich für das Auswahlverfahren und die Durchführung sind Dr.-Ing. Tanja Döring (Universität Bremen) und Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Prilla (Technische Universität Clausthal). Die Teilnehmer*innen erhalten im Seminar Gelegenheit, Ihr Promotionsthema darzustellen, mit den Teilnehmern und Teilnehmerinnen zu diskutieren und aus verschiedenen Perspektiven Rückmeldung zu erhalten. Nach guten Erfahrungen aus dem Vorjahr ist zudem für 2021 erneut ein Panel aus weiteren Expert*innen geplant, das den Teilnehmer*innen zusätzliches Feedback gibt. Eine Teilnahme am Seminar ist nur auf Einladung möglich. Wenn Sie Interesse an einer Einladung haben, dann sollten Sie gerade an einer Dissertation im gesamten Themenbereich der Konferenz Mensch und Computer (einschließlich Interaktionsdesign, Usability/UX, CSCW und weiterer Bereiche) arbeiten, bzw. eine solche gerade abgeschlossen haben. Bewerben Sie sich bitte bis zum 2. Juli 2021 mit einer Kurzdarstellung aus dem Kontext ihrer Dissertation (Motivation, Problemstellung, Lösungsweg, (Zwischen-)Ergebnisse) auf maximal vier Seiten. The workshop will be held online in the form of 2-hour sessions between mentors and a group of authors during the week of August 23-27, 2021. The workshop aims to propel research on the various ways in which digital technology impacts innovation, transformation and entrepreneurship. To do so, the workshop brings together leading faculty from the areas of digital innovation, digital transformation, and digital entrepreneurship. The workshop is intended primarily as a venue for early career researchers (late-stage Ph.D. students, Post Docs, new faculty) to develop their ongoing work in a friendly and collegial environment but it also welcomes established and senior scholars working on the topic. All conference papers must contain original, previously unpublished, research work adhering the four publication types: - Full research papers: 10 pages + references, proposing original reports of new research techniques, findings, and applications clearly indicating its innovative aspects. Research procedures and technical methods should be presented in sufficient detail to ensure reproducibility, and results should be clearly communicated with the respective implications and impact. - Short research papers: 7 pages + references. of references, proposing original and highly promising research or applications. Merit will be assessed in terms of originality and importance rather than maturity, extensive technical validation, and user studies. - Exhibition & interactive experiences: Initially an extended abstract of 500 words for review from individuals and research groups also in industrial organizations, spin-offs, corporations, government institutions and public administration active in the broad field of HCI eager to share ideas, results, demonstrations, functional prototypes, installations with other HCI researchers, professionals, and stakeholders. It is a track dedicated to industry and academia, and it seeks to showcase their innovations and promote collaborations among them (upon acceptance further guidelines will be provided for the camera-ready version) - Young Researchers: Initially an extended abstract of 800 words for review from young researchers, i.e., early doctoral students, BSc, MSc students, that want to discuss their research goals, methods, and results at an early stage in their research and receive invaluable feedback. They should highlight the following, or similar, aspects like research problem, related work, research questions, proposed approach and expected innovation, current progress and future work. In the first page, they should include their research title, name, name(s) of their supervisors and university (upon acceptance further guidelines will be provided for the camera-ready version) Manuscripts should be formatted using the new workflow for ACM publications – as single-column paper submissions. This special issue is open to all researchers, and papers will be submitted to a regular JOCEC review process under the guidance of the special issue editors. All authors are encouraged to look at prior published JOCEC research articles for reference and presentation style. Authors are highly encouraged to submit an extended abstract in August 2021 for an initial screening of fit by the editors, but the extended abstract submission is not mandatory for the full paper submission to the special issue. Authors are also encouraged to submit your work to the 2022 HICSS Minitrack on Crowdsourcing and Digital Workforce in the Gig Economy. Submitting to the minitrack is a great way to get early feedback as you prepare your work for the JOCEC special issue. Extended version of the papers presented at the HICSS minitrack in January 2022 will be invited to be fast tracked to the JOCEC special issue. For organizations, crowdsourcing provides an online marketplace, such as Amazon Mechanical Turk and Upwork, to tap into the labor and intelligence of the crowd. Studies on the technical systems and collective intelligence are informative, but our understanding of the crowdsourcing phenomenon cannot be complete without a comprehensive understanding of the crowd itself, the work made available on the digital platform, and its institutional, regulatory, ethical, and societal impacts. More broadly, crowdsourcing contributes to the growth of the gig economy, the labor market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs, enabled by on-demand apps such as Uber, Lyft, Instacart, Postmates, DoorDash, Grubhub, and TaskRabbit. Economists estimate that the portion of U.S. workers earning a living as independent contractors, freelancers, temps, and on-call employees jumped from 10% in 2005 to nearly 16% in 2015, and the trend continues to grow, with predictions of independent workers comprising half of the American workforce by 2028. Yet, our understanding of the emerging workforce and work conditions in the gig economy is still in its incipient stage. Thus, this special issue focuses on the three critical aspects of crowdsourcing and gig economy, including: (1) crowdsourcing; (2) digitalization and future of work; and (3) gig worker and work conditions in the gig economy. While adversarial examples are well understood in computer vision tasks, the harmful effects of the malicious application of machine learning are less well-understood in information retrieval and recommendation systems. The issues include: injection of adversarial-crafted fake users, adversarial perturbation of multimedia data in training sets or background collections, and adversarial structural noise on graph structure in order to improve search and recommendation in real-world environments, research is necessary that will allow us to discover, understand, and control the adverse impact of adversarial machine learning. In this workshop, we aim to bring together researchers from the fields of adversarial machine learning, information retrieval, and recommender systems to discuss recent advances and research directions that could be further exploited to broaden the frontier in the field. The purpose of the 1st International Workshop on Adversarial Machine Learning for Recommendation and Search (AdveRSe 2021) is to provide a meeting forum for stimulating and disseminating research in Adversarial Machine Learning for Recommendation and Search Systems, where researchers can network and discuss their research results in an informal way. The Half-Day Workshop will take place online on November 1-5, 2021 in conjunction with the 30th ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM 2021), hosted in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. [Submission Guidelines] Submissions of full research papers must be in English, in PDF format in the CEUR-WS two-column conference format available at CEURART or at OVERLEAF TEMPLATE if an Overleaf is preferred. • Long Papers should report on substantial contributions of lasting value. The Long papers must have a length of minimum 6 and maximum 8 pages (plus an unlimited number of pages for references). Each accepted long paper will be included in the CEUR on-line Workshop proceedings and presented in a plenary session as part of the Workshop program. • Short/Position Papers typically discuss exciting new work that is not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but significant proposals will be considered for acceptance to this category despite not having gone through sufficient experimental validation or lacking strong theoretical foundation. Applications of adversarial learning in recommendation and search systems to novel areas are especially welcome.
