Conceptual modeling constitutes a learning task faced by most students
of Informatics related fields such as Business Informatics, Information
Systems, and Software Engineering. Viewed as an activity, conceptual
modeling involves an intricate array of cognitive processes and
performed actions including: abstracting, conceptualizing, associating,
contextualizing, interpreting & sense-making, judging & evaluating,
drawing & visualizing; and, in group settings: communicating, discussing
and agreeing. Learning conceptual modeling is, hence, construed as a
complex task based on codified & tacit knowledge and learning processes
involving knowledge acquisition through experience. Learning conceptual
modeling involves mastering theoretical foundations, modeling languages
and methods, and applying them to practical problems. Teaching
conceptual modeling is a likewise challenging task faced by didactic and
practical challenges.
Research on teaching and learning conceptual modeling forms a diverse
body of knowledge involving foci on learning tool support, feedback to
learners and the use of learning theories and methods. Due to its
relevance for education and practice, research on teaching and learning
conceptual modeling provides several starting points for innovative and
original contributions taking complementary angles and methodological
stances on learning conceptual modeling.
In this special issue of Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems
Architectures (EMISA) - International Journal of Conceptual Modeling, we

Subject: [AISWorld] Call For Papers: IEEE International Workshop on
Security, Trust, and Privacy for Software Applications (STPSA 2021)
Date: Fri, 5 Mar 2021 17:38:00 +0000
From: Farooq, Abdullah Al <farooqa(a)wit.edu>
To: aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org <aisworld(a)lists.aisnet.org>
Dear Colleagues,
Submit your paper in
STPSA 2021: The 15th IEEE International Workshop on Security, Trust, and
Privacy for Software Applications
In conjunction with COMPSAC 2021 the 45th IEEE Computer Society
International Conference on Computers, Software & Applications
Venue: All-Virtual, July 12-16, 2021
Workshop Website:
https://ieeecompsac.computer.org/2021/stpsa-security-trust-privacy-for-soft…
GOALS
This workshop will bring researchers from academia and industry to
discuss methods and tools to achieve security, trust, and privacy goals
of both pervasive and pervasive software applications. This workshop
will focus on techniques, experiences and lessons learned with respect
to the state of art for the security, trust, and privacy aspects of both
pervasive and non-pervasive software applications along with some open
issues.
THEME
Information security has become a major concern for both pervasive and
non-pervasive software applications. Software systems must be engineered
with reliable protection mechanisms with respect to security, privacy,
and trust, while still delivering the expected value of the software to
their customers. The traditional approaches to secure a system (e.g.,
IDS, firewalls) are no longer sufficient to address many security,
trust, and privacy (STP) issues. These issues should be addressed by
building more effective STP-aware software applications. The principal
obstacle in developing STP-aware software is that current software
specification, design, implementation, and testing practices do not
include adequate methods and tools to achieve security, trust, and
privacy goals.
As most systems now are Internet-based, the number of attackers is
increased dramatically and threat scenarios have changed. Traditional
security measures do not fit well for the software of pervasive
applications. Since location and contexts are key attributes of
pervasive applications, the privacy issues need to be handled in a novel
manner than traditional software applications. The devices in pervasive
computing leave and join in ad hoc manner in the pervasive network.
These create a need for new trust models for pervasive computing
applications. In this workshop, we will also welcome papers on the
challenges and requirements of security, privacy, and trust for
pervasive software applications.
SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Security, trust, and privacy specific software development practices
• Security, trust, and privacy requirements elicitation and specification
• Models and languages for STP-aware software specification and design
• Architecture for STP-aware software development
• STP challenges for pervasive software applications
• Testing security, trust, and privacy properties of both pervasive and
non-pervasive software
• STP management and usability issues in software applications
• User interfaces for STP-aware pervasive and non pervasive software
• Software reengineering for security, trust, and privacy for both
pervasive and non pervasive applications
• Tradeoffs among security, privacy, trust, and other criteria
• STP challenges in e-services, e.g. e-health, e-government, e-banking,
e-commerce, e-marketing and other web-based and pervasive applications
• STP challenges in mobile software applications
• STP issues in sensor based software applications
• User interfaces for secure and privacy-aware pervasive computing
applications
• STP-aware service discovery mechanisms for pervasive computing
environments
• Models for ensuring security, trust, and privacy in pervasive software
applications
• STP issues for handheld device software applications such as healthcare
• Teaching STP-aware software development
• Experience reports on developing STP-aware software

*********************************************************************
*Call for Papers: “Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)” Minitrack at
the 55th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS)*
*********************************************************************
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of decision
analytics and service science has received significant attention in
academia and practice alike. Yet, much of the current efforts have focused
on advancing underlying algorithms and not on decreasing the complexity of
AI systems. AI systems are still “black boxes” that are difficult to
comprehend—not only for developers, but particularly for users and
decision-makers. In addition, the development and use of AI is associated
with many risks and pitfalls like biases in data or predictions based on
spurious correlations (“Clever Hans” phenomena), which eventually may lead
to malfunctioning or biased AI and hence technologically driven
discrimination.
This is where research on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) comes
in. Also referred to as “transparent,” “interpretable,” or “understandable
AI”, XAI aims to “produce explainable models, while maintaining a high
level of learning performance (prediction accuracy); and enable human users
to understand, appropriately, trust, and effectively manage the emerging
generation of artificially intelligent partners”.
With a focus on decision support, this minitrack aims to explore and extend
research on how to establish explainability of intelligent black box
systems—machine learning-based or not. We especially look for contributions
that investigate XAI from either a developer’s or user’s perspective. We
invite submissions from all application domains, such as healthcare,
finance, e-commerce, retail, public administration or others. Technically
and method-oriented studies, case studies as well as design science or
behavioral science approaches are welcome.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- The developers’ perspective on XAI
-
- XAI to open, control and evaluate black box algorithms
- Using XAI to identify bias in data
- Explainability and Human-in-the-Loop development of AI
- XAI to support interactive machine learning
- Prevention and detection of deceptive AI explanations
- XAI to discover deep knowledge and learn from AI
- Designing and deploying XAI systems
- Addressing user-centric requirements for XAI systems
- The users’ perspective on XAI
-
- Theorizing XAI-human interactions
- Presentation and personalization of AI explanations for different
target groups
- XAI to increase situational awareness, compliance behavior and task
performance
- XAI for transparency and unbiased decision making
- Impact of explainability on AI-based decision support systems use
and adoption
- Explainability of AI in crisis situations
- Potential harm of explainability in AI
- Identifying user-centric requirements for XAI systems
- The governments’ perspective on XAI
-
- Explainability and transparency policy guidelines
- Evidence-based benefits and challenges of XAI implementations in
the public sector

Call For Papers: Special Track on AI for Tackling Dis/Misinformation
during Pandemics In conjunction with the ACM International Conference
on Information Technology for Social Good (GoodIT 2021)
The GoodIT conference is sponsored by ACM SIGCAS, the Association for
Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Computers & Society.
The conference focuses on the application of IT technologies to social
good.
The Special Track on AI for Tackling Dis/Misinformation during
Pandemics focuses on new data technologies based on artificial
intelligence, data governance, machine learning, natural language
processing, and social network analysis to aid experts in analyzing
large volumes of social media data in order to detect fake news,
misinformation, and disinformation. A number of open challenges need
more investigation from the research community, such as recent trends
in composing information disorder by combining false and real content,
the mechanisms that drive fake content diffusion during pandemics, how
to differentiate fake content from personal viewpoints, why people
tend to believe fake content and make decisions based on it during
pandemics, and what are the different motivations behind the
dissemination of fake content. Fact-checking and claim verification
are two important strategies that are worth incorporating in the
automated tackling and curtailment of fake content during and after
pandemics.

==============
EJC is organized as an academic society on Information Modelling and
Knowledge Bases. The final paper version is published as a journal
publication in the organization and the program committee.
The series of European Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and
Knowledge Bases (EJC) originally started as a co-operation initiative
between Japan and Finland in 1982. The practical operations were then
organized by professor Setsuo Ohsuga in Japan and professors Hannu
Kangassalo and Hannu Jaakkola in Finland (Nordic countries).
Geographical scope has expanded to cover Europe and also other countries.
Workshop characteristic - discussion, time enough for presentations and
limited number of participants (50) / papers (30) - is typical to the
conference. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
1. Conceptual modelling: Modelling and specification languages;
Domain-specific conceptual modelling; Concepts, concept theories and
ontologies; Conceptual modelling of large and heterogeneous systems;
Conceptual modelling of spatial, temporal and biological data; Methods
for developing, validating and communicating conceptual models.
2. Knowledge and information modelling and discovery: Knowledge
discovery, knowledge representation and knowledge management; Advanced
data mining and analysis methods; Conceptions of knowledge and
information;Modelling information requirements; Intelligent information
systems; Information recognition and information modelling.
3. Linguistic modelling: Models of HCI; Information delivery to users;
Intelligent informal querying; Linguistic foundation of information and
knowledge; Fuzzy linguistic models; Philosophical and linguistic
foundations of conceptual models.
4. Cross-cultural communication and social computing: Cross-cultural
support systems; Integration, evolution and migration of systems;
Collaborative societies; Multicultural web-based software systems;
Intercultural collaboration and support systems; Social computing,
behavioral modeling and prediction.
5. Environmental modelling and engineering: Environmental information
systems (architecture); Spatial, temporal and observational information
systems; Large-scale environmental systems; Collaborative knowledge base
systems;Agent concepts and conceptualisation; Hazard prediction,
prevention and steering systems.
6. Multimedia data modelling and systems: Modelling multimedia
information and knowledge; Content-based multimedia data management;
Content-based multimedia retrieval; Privacy and context enhancing
technologies;Semantics and pragmatics of multimedia data; Metadata for
multimedia information systems.
Publication:
EJC (European Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge
Bases) is defined as the selection process of the final journal-paper
publication in "Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases" by the EJC
Organization and Program Committee of "International Conference on
Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases" .
The papers selected as journal papers are published in the Series of
"Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence" by IOS Press (Amsterdam) after
the conference for international distributions. The books "Information
Modelling and Knowledge Bases Vol. n" are edited by the Editing
Committee of the conference. Improved papers must be sent by next
September, after the conference. Each of the position papers is reviewed
in the presentation and the improved version by Program Committee,
whether or not it can be accepted as the final journal print. Â
