CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------------------------
The 12th IEEE International Conference on Service Oriented Computing and
Applications (SOCA 2019)
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
November 18 - 21, 2019
https://www.cs.ccu.edu.tw/~conference/soca2019
Dear Colleagues:
We cordially invite you to share your latest research results related to
big data analytics and intelligence at the IEEE SOCA 2019 conference.
Service-oriented computing (SOC) is considered today a key enabler for
the development of robust and high-quality intelligent Internet-scale
distributed applications. Extensive research and development in the past
few years has pushed SOC technology into state-of-the-art applications
in emerging areas such as Cloud computing, Internet-of-Things (IoT),
Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs),
Mobile-Edge Computing, Social computing as well as mobile and enterprise
systems. However, many of the critical components on building reliable,
robust, and user-centric, cloud-based service-oriented architecture
applications and systems are still open for research. Hence, it is time
to face new service-oriented architecture (SOA) research opportunities
by addressing new research challenges on emerging applications domains
like smart cities, smart logistics, smart factories and e-Health, just
to mention a few.
Many of the service components are deployed on resource-limited embedded
systems and are performance sensitive; others are deployed on cloud
servers providing highly parallel services and on edge servers in the
middle of resource-limited systems and high-end servers. Edge servers
and clouds are connected through various types of networks, including
emerging network function virtualization services.
These components are part of complex applications and systems that span
multiple execution environments.
Their capabilities are increasingly being managed and (re)configured via
emerging software-defined and elasticity mechanisms. In addition, they
have to interact with humans in order to obtain useful human-sensing
data and solve complex problems. Thus, on the one hand, SOC may provide
effective solutions for managing the ever-increasing complexity while
meeting the challenging requirements of services on largely distributed,
heterogeneous and dynamic resource environments. On the other hand, the
exploitation of emerging trends in such environments to build SOC
applications and systems for large-scale service-based systems is an
open research challenge.
The 2019 IEEE International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and
Applications (SOCA 2019) provides an international forum for researchers
from multiple disciplines to exchange and share their experiences,
ideas, and latest research results on all aspects of service-oriented
computing. The conference includes three days of parallel-track program,
special-topic workshops, keynotes and tutorials, and panel discussion.
We invite submissions of high-quality papers describing fully developed
results or ongoing work on the following topics and related areas:
-Service-oriented architectures, engineering, and applications
-Cloud-based service systems
-SOCA in IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems
-Service Models and Applications for Mobile-Edge Computing
-Service coordination techniques in IoT and cloud environments
-SOC-based smart process and workflow management
-Configurable, reconfigurable and software-defined service middleware
-Data analytics and data services in and for SOC-based systems
-IoT and data marketplaces
-Smart data and service contracts
-Cognitive computing techniques for SOCA
-Social computing for and atop SOCA
-SOCA development, deployment and testing tools and methodologies
-Security and privacy for SOCA
-Dependable and trustworthy SOCA
-SOCA for smart applications (cities, transportation systems, factories,
homes and offices, etc.)

Description
The technological development is rapidly reshaping when, where, and how
people do their jobs. The accelerated digitalization of information is
pushing many organizations away from the established archetype of 9-5
office work towards more seasonable approaches to work. What often began
as outsourcing of administrative work or an individual concession for
employees to perform individual tasks from home (e.g. home office,
telework) has increasingly changed into a movement in which
organizations partially or even completely virtualize themselves and
physical office locations cease to exist. This leads to contemporary
approaches to work, including virtual or remote work, offshoring,
outsourcing, globally distributed project work, as well as freelancing
on demand, brokered through dedicated platforms (e.g. Mechanical Turk,
Uber, and TaskRabbit). In addition, the content of work is increasingly
changing, as automation and augmentation of work perform
operational-administrative and repetitive tasks, allowing employees in
organizations to concentrate more on creative and strategic tasks.
However, the development also comes along with changes in employment
relationships. Jobs are increasingly being carried out in flexible,
uncertain and socially insecure work settings. While, organizations will
increasingly turn into a shared services provider taking care of project
and task allocation in these settings, issues such as individual
training and development will be part of the employee’s responsibility.
Furthermore, employees are confronted with blurring boundaries between
work and private life and constant connectivity, increasing IT-induced
demands (e.g., technostress) and may lead to social isolation.
Due to the interdisciplinary nature of work-related topics, we
explicitly welcome all approaches that take a broad and inclusive
perspective addressing virtual work and the virtualization of
organizations. We seek submissions on a variety of theoretical and
methodological approaches that examine the phenomenon across different
levels of analysis.
Covered areas include, but are not limited to:
· Automation and augmentation of work
· Challenges and benefits of virtual work and virtual organizations
· Digital leadership in remote work settings
· Digitalization and job mobility
· Digitalization and the future of occupations
· Meaning of work in digital workplaces
· New forms of technology-enabled work arrangements
· New practices and forms of leadership in digital workplaces
· New practices and forms of human resources management in digital
workplaces
· New practices and forms of knowledge management
· Sharing economy and peer to peer work arrangements
· Structural mechanisms, policy, and regulation to legitimize virtual work
· Technostress and its consequences on employee performance
· The great variety of Bring-your-own approaches (e.g., BYOD, BYOC, BYOS)
Important Dates
Paper submission deadline: August 16th, 2019
Submission deadline for revised papers: November 11th, 2019

We invite papers for the "Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies & New Business
Models" track as part of the WI2020 (15. Internationaler
Wirtschafsinformatik Kongress). Submissions are welcome in English and
in German.
https://wi2020.de/
Blockchains and the cryptocurrencies they enable are fascinating
examples of how digital technologies may transform and disrupt societies
and economies. Blockchain drives innovation in many industries and is
likely to serve as a catalyst for new and exciting digital business
models. Novel digital business models are not only enabled by
blockchain, but also by other digital technologies and infrastructures,
in particular the Internet and different forms of artificial
intelligence (e.g., machine learning). Such business models have already
transformed our economies, as is illustrated by some of world's most
valuable companies. However, blockchain-based business models are still
not well understood from a rigorous research perspective. Similarly,
research on blockchain and cryptocurrencies is only in its infancy.
To address these gaps, this track calls for academic research on
blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and related business models. We invite
innovative and relevant empirical (qualitative and quantitative) studies
as well as design-oriented research and conceptual/theoretical papers.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Generic strategies and core design principles in a blockchain economy
* Blockchain in the context of decision-making and decision-making authority
* Blockchain and trust, accountability
* Digital forensics for blockchain
* Incentive structures and incentive alignment in blockchain governance
* Blockchain and institutional aspects
* Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and Security Token Offerings (STOs)
* Blockchain privacy and security
* Blockchain and its effects on transaction costs and source of
sustainable competitive advantage
* Cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and central bank digital currencies
* Competitive dynamics of digital business models
* Digital business model innovation
* Blockchain and its impact on organizational functions
* Risks and value of digital business models
* Interplay between business model components and their configuration
* Validation of digital business models
* Conceptualization of metrics for digital business model evaluation
* Sustainable digital business models
* Artificial intelligence and digital business models

*Track Description*
In today’s digital age, we use IT in almost all areas of our lives:
Social media to connect with family and friends; mobile apps for banking
or shopping; cloud services to store and flexibly access huge amounts of
media, pictures, and videos. So everyday, we leave millions of data
traces, and the scale of user data available online is unprecedented. At
the same time, recent data scandals showed how lax current privacy
protections for user data are.
Likewise, the number of cyber-attacks in industry is
growing. Organizations’ assets and critical resources increasingly
become digital and thus more transferrable. It is therefore important to
protect digital resources in organizations and reduce exposure to
inadvertent modifications or information leakage. As a consequence,
urgent public discussions at all levels raise concerns about information
security and privacy.
This track seeks contributions that address these rising concerns. We
especially encourage research that focuses on the management of
information security and privacy across a variety of industries, such
as, health, insurance, finance, mobility. All methodological approaches
are welcome, including but not limited to conceptual,
qualitative, quantitative, design science including engineering of novel
protection mechanisms, and mixed-methods approaches.
Covered areas include, but are not limited to:
• Security and Privacy Threats and Challenges
• Behavioural Economics of Security and Privacy
• Legal Aspects and Regulations of Security and Privacy
• Intercultural/Gender Perspectives on Security and Privacy
• Assessing the Value of Security and Privacy
