This session will provide an opportunity to present and discuss emerging methods and technologies with researchers and practitioners, allowing the presenters to gather relevant feedback regarding their ongoing work. ** Posters ** should present visionary ideas and/or innovative research projects for which at least some preliminary results are available. We accept works in a relatively early stage, not necessarily including a complete validation. **Tool Demonstrations (Demos for short)** regard the exhibition of innovative software prototypes or full-fledged systems for developing, communicating and implementing conceptual models. The tools may originate from research initiatives or from industry. Author Guidelines ------------------------ Poster & Demo papers must present original, novel research and tools, or a significant extension of previously presented works. In the latter case, there must be clear evidence of the value added to the previous version of the work, e.g., by describing the innovative parts and/or application of the work or tool. The papers are limited to 5 pages and must adhere to Springer’s LNCS submission formatting guidelines (for instructions and style sheets, see http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html ). They should be submitted in PDF format through the Poster & Tool Demonstration link in the ER 2019 EasyChair page, available at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=er2019 . Suggested paper structure: * Title, authors and affiliation. * Abstract: a brief description of the work/tool, together with a statement on how the conference participants will benefit from getting to know it, and for what target audience it will most likely be of interest. * Significance to the conceptual modeling field: in case of posters, describe the novel ideas and how they advance the state of the art in conceptual modeling. Moreover, provide a brief illustration of the work; for demos, describe the innovations of the tool to the ER community and its main features. If applicable, include a brief description of case studies performed using the tool, provide scalability data or pointers indicating where readers can find more information about these case studies. • Maturity: information illustrating the maturity of the work, including if it has gone through any preliminary evaluation, and if it is already in use. * Link: if available, a link to a web page where more information of the work is provided; in case of a demo, this could be a link for tool download and instructions of use. * Screencast: for demos, a link to a screencast demonstrating the tool, preferably including voice – maximum of 20 minutes/video. Publication and Presentation --------------------------------------- All submissions will be reviewed by an international program committee. Accepted papers will be published as online CEUR proceedings. Each paper will be presented using a one-minute teaser in a short session, aimed at informing the audience about the available posters & demos. The actual presentation will then be held in one or more separate sessions, in a way that the audience can freely walk around and visit the posters & demos of interest. Therefore, physical presence of at least one presenter for each paper is mandatory. The reviewing committee and the track audience will vote on the best poster and the best demo to be granted award certificates. This year is the 10-year anniversary of the very first HCOMP workshop in Paris, and to celebrate, there will be special events, talks, and panels throughout the conference. HCOMP is the premier venue for disseminating the latest research findings on human computation and crowdsourcing. While artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interaction (HCI) represent traditional mainstays of the conference, HCOMP believes strongly in inviting, fostering, and promoting broad, interdisciplinary research. The field is particularly unique in the diversity of disciplines it draws upon and contributes to, ranging from human-centered qualitative studies and HCI design, to computer science and artificial intelligence, to economics and the social sciences, all the way to digital humanities, policy, and ethics. We promote the exchange of advances in human computation and crowdsourcing not only among researchers, but also engineers and practitioners, to encourage dialogue across disciplines and communities of practice. Submissions may present principles, studies, and/or applications of systems that rely on programmatic interaction with individual people or crowds, or where human perception, knowledge, reasoning, or physical activity and coordination contributes to the operation of computational systems, applications, or services. This year, we especially encourage work that generate new insights into the “human computation” side of HCOMP, such as new understandings about human cognition, human-in-the-loop intelligence systems, human-AI interaction and collaboration, algorithmic and interface techniques for augmenting human abilities to perform tasks, and other issues that affect how humans collaborate with AI systems (such as bias, fairness, and interpretability). We encourage practitioners and researchers to submit Works-in-Progress as it provides a unique opportunity for sharing valuable ideas, eliciting useful feedback on early-stage work, and fostering discussions and collaborations among colleagues. Accepted submissions will be presented as a poster at the conference. A Work-in-Progress is a concise report of recent findings or other types of innovative or thought-provoking work relevant to the HCOMP community. The difference between Works-in-Progress and other contribution types is that Work-in-Progress submissions represent work that has not reached a level of completion that would warrant the full Refereed selection process. That said, appropriate submissions should make some contribution to the body of HCOMP knowledge, whether realized or promised. A significant benefit of a Work-in-Progress derives from the discussion between the author and conference attendees that will be fostered by the face-to-face presentation of the work. Each WIP poster will be provided a poster board and pushpins to hang your poster. Details about the available poster facilities will be provided in due time. Make sure to print your poster ahead of time according to these dimensions. Demonstrations. A demonstration is a high-visibility, high-impact forum of the HCOMP program that allows you to present your hands-on demonstration, share novel interactive technologies, and stage interactive experiences. We encourage submissions from any area of human computation and crowdsourcing, human-AI collaboration and interaction, and human-in-the-loop intelligent systems. Demos promote and provoke discussion of the role of technology, and invites contributions from industry, research, the arts and design. Demonstrations will showcase this year’s most exciting human computation and collaborative human-AI prototypes and systems. If you have an interesting prototype, system, exhibit or installation, we want to know about it. Sharing hands-on experiences of your work is often the best way to communicate what you have created. The demonstration submission should describe the nature of the system as well as the expected form of interaction with the user and the audience. If you have special infrastructure requirements for the demonstration, please include them in a dedicated paragraph within the submission. Previously unpublished. Individuals’ personal information is transmitted and transacted across all sorts of networks, often beyond the individual’s control. Problematic practices in how companies handle personal information—as spotlighted by the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal and Equifax security breach—raise wide concerns for information privacy. Indeed, many would concur with Acquisti, Brandimarte, and Loewenstein’s (2015) statement: “If this is the age of information, then privacy is the issue of our times” (p. 509). While few would argue against the significance and urgency of privacy research, there are considerable gaps in the literature, particularly on how to conceptualize privacy in the digital age and how to improve industry practices to better protect the personal information of individuals and groups (Wu, Vitak, & Zimmer 2019). This special issue of the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) is intended to push the boundaries of privacy research and challenge academics and practitioners to come up with innovative ideas in theorizing and resolving privacy-related issues within diverse contexts.
