Dear colleagues,
Please consider visiting Ljubljana in June 2015 and participating in
2nd International Workshop on Socio-Technical Perspective in IS
development (STPIS'16)
planned for 14th of June 2016
The main */purpose /*of the workshop is to arrange */discussions /*on
using a socio-technical perspective in IS development, the long term
goal being to make this workshop a/*meeting place for the community of
IS researchers and practitioners*/ interested in the socio-technical
approach.
attached to CAiSE'16 conference (http://caise2016.si/)
Full description see at http://stpis2016.blogs.dsv.su.se/
Short description is presented below
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite that a socio-technical perspective has been around for over a
half century, it is often forgotten in the Information Systems (IS)
discourse today. Consequently, many “new approaches” appear to reflect
on IS systems problems, such as modern IT systems poorly adjusted to the
external or/and internal environment (e.g. market, organizational
culture) of organizations in which they are (to be) deployed. We
strongly believe that it is high time the social-technical perspective
took its proper place in IS research, practice and teaching.
The main purpose of the workshop is to arrange discussions on using a
socio-technical perspective in IS development, the long term goal being
to make this workshop a meeting place for the community of IS
researchers and practitioners interested in the socio-technical approach.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Case studies using socio-technical approach
Information system design using socio-technical approach
Socio-technical comparative studies of technology/IS adoption
Socio-technical analysis, design, development and integration of
– health care systems
– crisis management systems
– information security management systems
– learning systems
– privacy enhanced technology
Societal Security from a socio-technical perspective
Ethnographic and Anthropological aspects of IS design and adoption
IT business alignment from a socio-technical perspective
Using Viable System Model (VSM) for analysis and design of
socio-technical systems
We invite submissions of short and long papers and multi-media materials
in the following categories:
Position papers
Idea papers
Experience reports
Research papers
Multi-media. Besides papers, we accept submissions in form of
multi-media materials, for example, recorded video or animated
presentation, describing industrial experience of using socio-technical
perspective for IS analysis or development. In case of acceptance, an
extended abstract is published in the workshop proceedings, while the
multi-media material itself or a link to it is placed on the workshop site.

#About SEMANTiCS
The annual SEMANTiCS conference is the meeting place for researchers and
professionals who push the boundaries of semantic computing and who
understand its benefits and encounter its limitations. Every year,
SEMANTiCS attracts professionals and researchers alike ranging from
NPOs, through public administrations to the largest companies in the world.
The success of last year’s conference in Vienna with more than 280
attendees from 22 countries proves that SEMANTiCS 2016 will continue a
long tradition of bringing together colleagues from around the world.
There will be presentations on industry implementations, use case
prototypes, best practices, panels, papers and posters to discuss
semantic systems in birds-of-a-feather sessions as well as informal
settings. SEMANTiCS addresses problems common among information
managers, software engineers, IT-architects and various specialist
departments working to develop, implement and/or evaluate semantic
software systems.
The SEMANTiCS program is a rich mix of technical talks, panel
discussions of important topics and presentations by people who make
things work - just like you. In addition, attendees can network with
experts in a variety of fields. These relationships provide great value
to organisations as they encounter subtle technical issues in any stage
of implementation. The expertise gained by SEMANTiCS attendees has a
long-term impact on their careers and organisations. These factors make
SEMANTiCS the major industry related event across Europe for our community.

***Mini-track Description***
Many organizations operate with a primary mission to serve the common good. Non-profit organizations focus on impacting the root causes of social problems in communities. Social enterprises aim to improve human well-being using traditional business methods and commercial strategies. These organizations focus on long-lasting social issues such as poverty, homelessness, education inequality, financial instability, lack of healthcare access and knowledge, etc. Both non-profits and social enterprises have various constraints that impact technology adoption, diffusion, and utilization towards efforts in achieving their strategic goals. Examples include regulatory issues, heavy reliance on volunteer staff, limited finances, etc. Interestingly, given these salient factors, there has been minimal research that focuses on the strategic use of technology within these organization types.
There is significant potential to examine and improve how these organization types harness the power of information systems (IS) and technology (IT) to accelerate social impact. Thus, it is essential to focus on IS/IT utilization, innovation, and strategic use within non-profit and social enterprise organizations. This mini-track solicits completed and research-in-progress papers addressing IS/IT issues in non-profits or social enterprises. Papers can be conceptual, theoretical, design, empirical, or case studies.
Situated in non-profit or social enterprise organizations, topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Design, development, deployment, and use or utilization of IS/IT
* Intra- and inter-organizational IS/IT issues
* Individual attitudes, behaviors, or characteristics that impact strategic use of IS/IT
* Multiple stakeholder perspectives on IS/IT issues
* IS/IT governance or policy issues
* Evaluation and assessment of IS/IT impact on organizational performance
* Social media, networking, and analytics
* Business intelligence and related tools
* Innovative and novel IS/IT applications
