SCOPE AND TOPICS
The goal of the International Conference on Performance Engineering (ICPE) is to integrate theory and practice in the field of performance engineering by providing a forum for sharing ideas and experiences between industry and academia. Nowadays, complex systems of all types, like Web-based systems, data centers and cloud infrastructures, social networks, peer-to-peer, mobile and wireless systems, cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things, real-time and embedded systems, have increasingly distributed and dynamic system architectures that provide high flexibility, however, also increase the complexity of managing end-to-end application performance.
ICPE brings together researchers and industry practitioners to share and present their experiences, discuss challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on performance engineering of software and systems, including performance measurement, modeling, benchmark design, and run-time performance management. The focus is both on classical metrics such as response time, throughput, resource utilization, and (energy) efficiency, as well as on the relationship of such metrics to other system properties including but not limited to scalability, elasticity, availability, reliability, and security.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL FOR TUTORIALS
ICPE enhances the experience of attending researchers and industry practitioners through a Tutorial Track led by renowned scientists and practitioners in the fields of relevance for the ICPE community. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, performance measurement, performance modeling, benchmarking, and run-time performance management of complex systems of all types.

- Title;
- 150 to 200-word abstract describing the tutorial, that is suitable for inclusion on the conference website;
- Contact information (name, e-mail, affiliation) and a brief biography (up to 200 words) of the presenter(s);
- Proposed duration (half-day (3 hours) or full-day (6 hours));
- Intended audience skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and any prerequisite knowledge required;
- Outline of the tutorial (overall goal and concrete objectives, teaching method and structure);
- The link between the tutorial and the ICPE topics of interest (a sentence or paragraph);
- If appropriate, a description of past versions of the tutorial should be provided. It should be indicated where the tutorial has been given (venue, date, number of attendees) and how it will be modified for ICPE 2017.
Submissions can be made at the following link, selecting the ICPE 2017 Tutorial track:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icpe2017
Authors of accepted tutorial proposals are expected to prepare a set of slides to be distributed to participants, including a bibliography pertinent to the tutorial. The camera-ready set of slides should be submitted as a PDF file with two slides per page.
Proposers of accepted tutorials will be given the opportunity to also submit a tutorial paper, which will appear in the conference proceedings. The content of a tutorial paper must be on the material covered by the tutorial and must not exceed 4 pages in size using the ACM format. Further instructions on the tutorial paper will follow.

The internationally recognized ADBIS conference already for 21 years is
gathering researchers and practitioners around topics related to databases,
data processing, and information systems, in general. The conference is run
in Europe but attracts researchers from all over the world. The 21st ADBIS
conference will be held in Nicosia, Cyprus. The conference is accompanied
by satellite events, including doctoral consortia and workshops.
*DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM
*
The Doctoral Consortium (DC) is a forum where PhD students can present
their research ideas, confront them with the scientific community, receive
feedback from mentors, and tie cooperation bounds. Students will receive
inspiration from their peers and will have a chance to discuss their
research
objectives with senior members of the community in the context of an
established international conference.
The DC session will take place on September 24, in parallel with the
workshop sessions. Each participant will present her/his work, followed by
a discussion with senior researchers.
*
ELIGIBILITY
*We seek PhD students who have either determined the direction of their
thesis research (probably with some preliminary results already published),
but who still have substantial work to complete, or PhD student participants
who are in the early stages of their dissertation year. It is not
required to
have a paper accepted for the main conference in order to participate in
the DC.
*SUBMISSIONS
*To apply to the DC, please submit a single-authored paper (which will
appear in the proceedings of DC), accompanied by a short email from the
thesis advisor stating support for your participation in the DC, describing
the current status of the thesis research, and giving your expected date of
graduation.
The papers for DC should be at most 12 pages in Springer format (formatting
instructions can be obtained via
_http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-2-793332-0
<http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/%7Egeorge/lm/lm.php?tk=YXNpcy5vcmcgLAkJCXdpQGFpZmIu…>_)
and
describe the state of the whole PhD project, rather than a specific
completed
result. The paper should outline the objectives, the problem, state of
the art,
results obtained so far, and what is still to be done in the frame of
the PhD
project. If an author prefers to present a completed research result, the
paper should be submitted to the main conference or one of accompanying
workshops. A paper submitted to the DC may not be under review for any
other conference or journal during the time it is being considered for
the DC.
Submissions should be made electronically in PDF format at CMT:
_https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/ADBISDC2017
<http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/%7Egeorge/lm/lm.php?tk=YXNpcy5vcmcgLAkJCXdpQGFpZmIu…>_.
In case of multiple
files, please submit a single compressed file (zip or rar). After
logging into
CMT, please choose the “ADBIS 2017 Doctoral Consortium” track.
*REVIEW PROCESS
*
Each paper submitted to the DC will be reviewed by at least two members
of the DC program committee and will be judged based on originality,
technical merit, presentation quality, and relevance. The authors of
successful submissions must take into account the reviewers’ comments
during the preparation of the final version and describe the changes in a
separate document to be submitted together with the final camera-ready
version. The program committee reserves the right to reject a paper if the
final version does not meet the requirements above.
Applications not adhering to the provided guidelines (including page limits)
will not be considered. The authors of accepted papers must register to the
conference, attend the DC and present their work.
*PROCEEDINGS
*The DC papers will be published by Springer, together with the ADBIS
workshops proceedings, in the Advances in Intelligent Systems and
Computing series.

ECSCW 2017, The 15th European Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative
Work
Sheffield (UK), August 28 - September 01 2017
https://ecscw2017.org.uk/
The 15th European Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (ECSCW)
will be held August 28 to September 1, 2017 in Sheffield, UK.
ECSCW is a series of international conferences on computer-supported
cooperative work located in Europe and championed by EUSSET, the European
Society for Socially Embedded Technologies.
CSCW focuses on enhancing our understanding of the practices of cooperative
work and on exploring and designing CSCW systems. The ECSCW conference is
an important venue for defining and further developing the agenda for CSCW
research. The conference has a longstanding interest in empirical,
conceptual and theoretical contributions and has a tradition of
inclusiveness. ECSCW addresses themes which include but are not limited to:
- Conceptualising practice in work and other activities, and the
relationship between understanding practice and the design of computer
artifacts: how can we understand work (the “W”)?
- Cooperation and its characteristics (e.g., describing the particulars
of articulation work and coordination mechanisms in a given setting): how
can we understand cooperative work (the “CW”)?
- Methods for investigating human practices: the nature of ethnography
and the role of other innovative methods in CSCW.
- Digital and other material artefacts in cooperative settings: how can
we support cooperative work in increasingly complex, networked settings
(the “CS”)?
The ECSCW conferences are single-track conferences that contribute to
developing an interdisciplinary ECSCW community. The conference format
facilitates critical discussion across disciplinary and national borders in
the field. An overview of earlier ECSCW conferences (and proceedings) is
available from http://www.ecscw.org/ .
While the key focus and topics of ECSCW remain the same, the conference is
changing. The biggest change for 2017 is in the types of submissions and
how those will be published.
- *Papers (*between 10,000 and 15,000 words + references*):* In 2017,
the conference is moving to a journal-level review process for the
submission of papers documenting original, rich, and in-depth contributions
to CSCW. Accepted submissions will be published in a special issue
of *Computer
Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW): The Journal of Collaborative Computing
and Work Practices* <http://rd.springer.com/journal/10606>. Paper
submissions will be reviewed by the ECSCW program committee (PC), while
decisions will be made by the PC chairs (acting as guest editors) in
collaboration with the Journal’s editors. The journal process will be
compressed into a shorter amount of time than is typical for the Journal
and will involve one full review cycle and a second,
corrections-confirmation cycle. All papers judged to be of sufficiently
high quality to be accepted will be published in the journal special issue.
Papers will also benefit from the visibility of being presented and
discussed at the conference. Paper submissions should be formatted
following the CSCW Journal Instructions to Authors
<http://www.springer.com/cda/content/document/cda_downloaddocument/JCSCW+Ins…>
. *Please keep in mind that, as per CSCW Journal policy, the papers
review process will be single-blind.*
- Papers accepted for publication in the CSCW Journal are typeset
(taking the digital document as input), however authors who want to use a
template for preparing their submissions may want to use this template
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/w68uc5jsce4ra4n/JCSCW%20manuscript%20template%202…>
.
- *Exploratory Papers:* The goal of this new type of submission is to
attract smaller, focused studies, works-in-progress, critical literature
reviews, early results, and/or provocative ideas that are not yet ready for
a journal submission, but could benefit from presentation and discussion
within the ECSCW community. While the length of exploratory papers is
flexible, we expect that papers will be no longer than 6,000 words (without
references). With exploratory papers, we aim at having lively sessions that
will contribute to shaping the future of practice-focused CSCW research.
Exploratory paper submissions will be reviewed by the ECSCW PC in one round
of evaluation (accepted or rejected). Accepted exploratory papers will be
published in the ECSCW/EUSSET Digital Library as an edited collection with
ISBN and DOIs (more information soon). Please follow the exploratory papers
template. The template can be downloaded as RTF
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/watyt6fit26hwtu/ECSCW%202017%20exploratory%20pape…>
or MSWord.
<https://www.dropbox.com/s/m2391028w7zz0tz/ECSCW%202017_EP%20template.doc?dl…>
- Authors of exploratory papers will retain the copyright and will then
be able to reuse their work in teaching, future publications, and other
scholarly and professional activities, and to deposit their work in a
university repository.
*Important dates*:

TRACK DESCRIPTION
Business Process Management (BPM) has evolved into a widely deployed and comprehensively studied discipline. It comprises activities such as the identification, definition and modelling of business processes, their implementation and execution, monitoring, mining and control as well as continuous and disruptive improvement. Enterprise-wide BPM requires capabilities such as governance, methods, information technology, culture, people, and strategic alignment.
This track specifically focuses on the face of BPM in a digital world. With the emergence of the opportunity-rich landscape of ubiquitous digitalization, the established, analysis-intensive BPM methods and tools are no longer sufficient to capitalize on the affordances of contemporary information systems. BPM needs to further develop its intellectual core and methodological basis to strengthen its exploratory, opportunity-driven capabilities in addition to the rich set of exploitative, problem-driven capabilities.
While, in the sense of exploitative BPM, the continuous improvement and management of existing processes will remain important, it focuses on reacting to and resolving existing process shortcomings. One topic of particular interest for this year's BPM track is explorative BPM, which operates under the paradigm of innovation and agility of processes, services, products and business models, applying techniques of creative, abductive thinking, design, and communication. This also includes the design of transformational innovation and design processes in addition to the traditional focus on transactional processes.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
The track seeks to find answers to the following questions:
* How can BPM help identify value-creating scenarios for digital technologies, e.g., smart objects and networks, big data analytics, social media, and cloud solutions?
* How can BPM be extended to stimulate the exploration of process innovation?
* How can processes be designed as needed in organizations growing at high speed?
* What is the role of business processes in social platforms, digital ecosystems, and increased robot-to-human systems?
* How can innovation processes be managed and supported by process-aware innovation systems?
* How can BPM support business model and ecosystem innovation?
* How can BPM enable organizational agility?
* How can we better understand diverse application areas for BPM that go beyond conventional business processes, including e.g., energy efficiency, private households, or smart cities?
* What are new application areas for BPM in economy and society, and what specific requirements do these application areas require?
* What enterprise-wide capabilities are needed to enable ambidextrous BPM, i.e. the coexistence of exploitative and explorative BPM?
