CALL FOR PAPERS
20th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Savannah, Georgia, August 07-10, 2014
Track: Enterprise systems (SIGEntSys)
Minitrack: Cloud Operations and Very Large Business Applications (VLBA)
Instructions for authors at: AMCIS website(http://amcis2014.aisnet.org/)
================================================================
DESCRIPTION
Emerging technologies like mash-ups, web 2.0 and cloud computing on the
one side and the increasing agility of business models on the other side
raises the question how Enterprise Systems will look like in the future.
Therefore, we see a new class of Enterprise Systems which address the
need for more agility in the entire value chain with a loosely coupled
system of distinct elements, orchestrated to a highly integrated,
complex Information System (Very Large Business Applications, VLBA).
VLBA act as enabler for intra- and interorganisational business
processes and play a significant role in the development of new business
models. This Mini-Track aims at studying, grounding, and finally
exploiting the potential of VLBA to solve integration and coordination
problems in distributed business processes as a key enabler of flexible
boundaryless information systems.
Key research questions are:
-how to represent VLBA in service-based information systems by employing
and adapting constructs, models, and methods of different information
systems technology stacks,
-how to coordinate software services by employing and adapting
approaches for service discovery and composition,
-how to operate large-scale, highly distributed enterprise systems
aligned with the needs of an agile business environment,
-how to negotiate and agree upon the delivery of software-based services
(SLA),
-how to control the delivery of software-based services in VLBA by
measuring efficiency and effectiveness?
This minitrack is continuing the successful start of the scientific
discuss on the topic of VLBA in an international perspective from AMCIS
2012 and AMCIS 2013.
SUGGESTED TOPICS
Topics relevant for this mini-track include, but are not limited to, the
following:
-Cloud Computing and VLBA
-VLBA Operations Management
-Strategic, tactic and operative Systems Landscape Engineering
-VLBA Business Simulations
-VLBA Business Models
-Analytical Business Process Engineering for VLBA
-VLBA and Knowledge Management
-VLBA security issues
-Innovative VLBA Applications
We invite contributions from different disciplines including information
systems, information management, computer and management science to
properly cover all facets of Very Large Business Applications. We
encourage papers applying quantitative and qualitative, empirical and
theoretical research methodologies such as case studies, action
research, surveys, experiments, and design science.

*Description*
With the trends of globalization and IT as a utility available over the
Internet continuing to grow unabated, various types of sourcing models
have begun to emerge. As a prominent example, cloud computing offers
various sourcing arrangements through the Internet delivery of IT
products and services, providing firms an opportunity to gain access to
and deliver applications, infrastructures, and platforms over public or
private networks. Specifically, to tap innovation and growth
opportunities, firms are transitioning to an on-demand model of IT
sourcing enabled by cloud computing to create increased flexibility and
enhance their ability to scale. These emerging alternatives create
challenges for both service provider and recipient organizations as they
have to take into account a number of new additional considerations,
such as variable hardware capacity needs and multiple and varying user
application preferences, to be able to successfully leverage these new
sourcing alternatives and manage their new sourcing relationships with
their partners. While the development of IT outsourcing and cloud
computing happened independently, they have become intricately
intertwined and should be considered as a set of viable sourcing options
while formulating and executing IT sourcing strategy.
We invite papers that provide insights into all aspects of IT sourcing
and various IT sourcing models over the network such as cloud computing
and SaaS. In particular, we are also interested in papers that tie the
developments of these sourcing models to broader IT strategy issues in
firms. Papers that include empirical, analytical, and conceptual
approaches that develop or extend theory are welcome. Co-authored papers
with practitioners are particularly encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
.Decision making in IT sourcing alternatives
.Cloud computing and SaaS as IT sourcing strategy
.Commercial sourcing models associated with cloud services and SaaS
.Coordination and control in IT outsourcing and network-based IT
sourcing arrangements
.Change in client role in emerging sourcing models with cloud computing
.Relationship management with cloud and SaaS partners
.Contracting issues in traditional IT sourcing vs. sourcing models with
cloud computing and SaaS
.Structuring IT outsourcing contracts and service level agreements
.Security issues in IT sourcing over the network such as cloud computing
and SaaS
.Risk management in network-based IT sourcing projects
.Service disruption and recovery
.IT outsourcing in global supply chain management
.IT outsourcing in healthcare, and healthcare information exchange (HIE)
.IT outsourcing-enabled business transformation and new
inter-organizational forms
.Switching issues in cloud computing based IT sourcing from the tradition
.Managing and monitoring suppliers in sourcing arrangements through the
Internet delivery of IT products and services
.Managing intellectual property issues in sourcing relationships
.Social, ethical, and regulatory implications in IT outsourcing
.Knowledge creation, acquisition, sharing, and loss in IT outsourcing
.Preserving and managing organizational knowledge in outsourcing
arrangements
.Impact of outsourcing at the individual, firm, and national levels,
both from a provider and a buyer perspective
.Emerging trends in IT outsourcing
.Challenges facing vendors as they adapt to sourcing models with cloud
computing, including but not limited to:
oCapabilities Required
oPricing and contracts
oNew service development
oService customization
oService supply chain management

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit extended abstracts for the
Workshop Application Tools and Technology for Conceptual Modelling and
Semantic at the eChallenges e2014 by 31 March 2014.
Supported by the European Commission, the 24th annual eChallenges e-2014
Conference & Exhibition takes place in Belfast, Northern Ireland from 29
- 31 October. Focused on Applied ICT addressing major Societal
Challenges, and showcasing strategic keynote presentations, technical
and policy papers, case studies and workshops, eChallenges brings
together senior representatives from leading commercial, government and
research organisations around the world to share knowledge and
experience, lessons learnt, good practice and innovation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Workshop: Application Tools and Technologies for Conceptual Modelling
and Semantic
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Concept Modelling is commodity in e-sciences, domain applications and
ICT and hence a cross-domain aspect. Domain specific modelling is an
emerging topic in ICT and can be observed by a growing number of groups
emphasizing the development of individual languages, methods and
approaches for the specific benefit of a particular domain. Domain
orientation allows implementing special model-driven solutions for
domain experts, without the need to make compromises in the concepts,
the method or the tools in use. This leads to a plethora of different
concepts, approaches, platforms and modelling intentions.
The challenge is to use modelling tools not only to deal with different
purposes in complex and heterogeneous application environments but also
to translate the conceptual world into a software that provides enough
technical flexibility, user acceptance and appropriate application
interfaces.
Hence the workshop targets very openly all modelling applications, tools
and technologies that have been developed or are used in application
domains to provide some samples - but not limited to: (a) semantics,
knowledge models and technologies for intelligent content; (b) business
processes, governmental and policy modelling in eGovernment,
eParticipation and eDemocracy; (c) learner models, training course
design and course evaluation for technology enhanced learning; (d) model
driven architecture, workflow orchestration as well as service discovery
and deployment for cloud computing; (e) domain-specific models, semantic
and knowledge platforms for eHealth, digital libraries and cultural
heritage, Future Internet or any applicable domain.
Technical surveys, novel technical solutions, prototypes or products
have been implemented, adapted, configured or used in a vast amount of
research projects and initiatives, ranging from Software Design and
Workflow Management tools, ontology management system, rule inference
engines, configuration platforms, business process management tools or
platforms to design and monitor key performance indicators.
This workshop aims to discuss a wide variety of modelling applications,
tools and platforms and hence invites research projects, research
initiatives and researches to present their ideas, prototypes, tools and
platforms and present the challenges and requirements for the
development, configuration and deployment of modelling tools into
concrete application scenarios.
The aim is to strengthen the European community of research dealing with
modelling to enable the collaboration across projects and ensure
sustainability of research results.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Call for Papers for the Workshop "Application Tools and Technology for
Conceptual Modelling and Semantic
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are now inviting extended abstracts (1,200 - 1,500 words) for
technical papers, visionary papers, business and government case
studies. Proposals to arrange 90 minute thematically focused workshop
sessions are also welcome. Related themes and suggestions for papers and

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
===================================================
RecSys 2014 is pleased to invite proposals for workshops to be held in
conjunction with the conference. The goal of the workshops is to
provide additional venues for presenting research on topics of
interest and an informal forum to discuss research questions and
challenges.
We encourage proposals for a wide range of workshops, including but
not limited to:
* Working group meetings organized around a specific problem; such
workshops may wish to ask participants to submit a short white paper
or position statement.
* One day mini-conferences on specialized topics; such workshops may
have their own paper submission and review processes.
* Mini-competitions or challenges around selected topics with
individual or team participation.
We welcome proposals for half-day and full-day workshops.
We encourage you to contact us in advance with workshop ideas; we will
work with prospective workshop organizers to help them design
successful proposals. We actively encourage both researchers and
industry practitioners to submit proposals.
