SPECIAL ISSUE ON Adaptive and Intelligent Systems for Collaborative Learning
Guest Editor:

* Deadline for submission: January 6th, 2012
The idea that learners in a collaborative learning situation can adaptively
be supported by technology systems lies at the crossroad of Intelligent
Tutoring, Adaptive Hypermedia Systems and Computer-Supported Collaborative
Learning (CSCL), expanding the perspective of the fields and setting
innovative research agendas. Also, the issue of introducing
adaptive/intelligent methods for managing and supporting the collaborative
learning activity can be approached from different but complementary
perspectives and may be of interest for researchers of various backgrounds
(learning scientists, educators, engineers/computer scientists,
instructional designers, the Learning Design community). Moreover, current
research emphasizes that either providing no support at all (i.e. free
collaboration) or unwittingly imposing unnecessary restrictions to group
learners ("overscripting") may have detrimental effects on learning. Thus,
collaborating students need carefully structured support that could help
them significantly increase the value of collaboration-generated benefits at
both cognitive and meta-cognitive level.
Working in the aforementioned context several research groups have made
various contributions leading gradually to the development of systems for
adaptive and intelligent collaborative learning support (AICLS systems). In
general, these systems aim to make pre-task interventions and support
in-task peer interactions and learning domain specific activities in
pedagogical settings for collaborative learning. System functionality is
expected to improve learners' both domain knowledge and collaboration
skills, however, these benefits are subject to the learning design and the
capability of AICLS to adapt and intervene in an unobtrusive way.
This special issue aims to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge in the
field and provide useful insights on state-of-the-art research by including
works that (a) analyze critical design issues of AICLS systems, (b) present
research evidence on the impact of these systems on student learning, and
(c) identify current trends and open research questions in the field. The
main areas of interest are (but they are certainly not limited to) the
following topics:
Modeling& Assessment
. Theoretical approaches on adaptive/intelligent methods addressing needs of
group learners.
. Group/Individual modeling in collaborative contexts.
. Modeling effective and ineffective student collaboration.
. Methods and tools for the design and operationalization of adaptive
systems for collaborative learning.
. Interaction analysis techniques to inform the flexible behavior of the
systems.
. Formalization efforts of the adaptive collaborative learning activity and
the role of the Learning Design.
. Evaluating various aspects of adaptive/intelligent systems for
collaborative learning (e.g. cost/benefit issues; evaluating the impact on
learning and development of metacognitive skills).
Orchestration/Support
. Adaptive/Intelligent methods for supporting the orchestration of
activities in collaborative learning contexts
. Adaptive and intelligent forms of tutoring/scaffolding/scripting in
collaborative learning settings.
. Adaptive/Intelligent methods for setting up conditions conducive to
collaboration.
. Adaptive/Intelligent support for peer-interaction.
Technology
. Architectures and frameworks for building or testing AICLS systems.
. AI and Web 2.0 tools& methods to integrate in AICLS systems.
We invite short articles, case studies, and project reports for the January
issue. This special issue will be published in Volume 15, Issue 1 (January,
2012). Since several intriguing questions are still far from being
adequately addressed in the field we especially welcome papers that describe
speculative ideas, work in progress, and discussions of challenging issues.
** The newsletter is of non-refereed nature though the articles will be
selected and edited by the Guest Editor
**

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
Track: Social Issues and Social Inclusion
Minitrack: The Dark Side of Social Networking -- Social and Ethical Issues
DESCRIPTION
Online social networks are web-based services, platforms, or sites that
/?/allow individuals to (1) construct a public or semi-public profile
within a bounded system, (2) articulate a list of other users within
whom they share a connection, and (3) view and traverse their list of
connections and those made by others within their system/? /(Boyd and
Ellison, 2008). By facilitating the establishment and maintenance of
social relations as well as the sharing of interests and activities
within individual networks, social networking sites (such as Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube, and more recently Google+) have
become increasingly integrated in our modern culture, changing the way
we work, study, play and socialize, and how we spend time and money.
Notwithstanding the many personal, educational, and work benefits
offered by online social networks, their use raises a variety of social
and ethical concerns (e.g., privacy and security threats,
cyber-bullying, addiction, deception, censorship and surveillance). The
objective of this mini-track is to develop theoretical insight and
understanding on topics and issues that address the */troubling/* or
*/dark/* side of online social networks. We welcome conceptual,
theoretical, and empirical papers that enrich our understanding of the
social and ethical issues of online social networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-- Privacy risks
-- Security vulnerabilities
-- Cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking
-- Social network addiction
-- Risk to child safety
-- Risk to reputation and confidentiality
-- Violations of intellectual property right
-- Ethical issues in social network analysis and mining
-- Risk of identity theft
-- Deception on social networks
-- Reduction in productivity and disruption to working environment
-- Negative impact of social networking on relationships (e.g., social
isolation and distraction from quality relationships)
-- Negative health consequences (e.g., personality and brain disorder)
associated with the use of social networking sites
-- Social network surveillance
-- Social network censorship

*Introduction*
Tim Berners-Lee coined the term ?Linked Data? in his Linked Data Web
architecture note. It refers to a way of publishing and interlinking
structured data./Linked Data/aims to enable people to share structured
data on the Web as easily as they can share documents today. The basic
assumption behind this term is that the usefulness and value of data
increases the more it is interlinked. According to Tim Berners-Lee
(2006), /?like the web of hypertext, the web of data is constructed with
documents on the web. However, unlike the web of hypertext, where links
are relationships anchors in hypertext documents written in HTML, for
data they link between arbitrary things described by RDF?./
The proposed book aims at helping in communicating and disseminating
relevant recent research in open linked data and semantic web based
personalization as applied to the context of Information Systems.
*Objective of the Book*
Linked Data literature proposes using the Web to connect related data
that was not previously linked or to lower the barriers to currently
linked data using other methods. More specifically, the basic elements
of linked data are to: 1) use the RDF data model to publish structured
data on the Web; and 2) use RDF links to interlink data from different
data sources. The application of both principles leads to the creation
of a data commons on the Web which is often called the Web of Data or
Semantic Web.
The book collection will cover Open Linked Data and Semantic Web
approaches to information systems and ontology-based information systems
research, as well as the diverse underlying database and knowledge
representation aspects that impact personalization and the
customization. The chapters will also address challenges for this new
field of research. Chapters dealing with aspects of both topics are
especially sought.
The subject area is a combination of /Web Semantic, Open Linked Data,
Business, Management, Information Technologies and Information Systems/.

"International standards supporting quality in software architecture"
======================================================================
SCOPE
The goal of QoSA (Quality of Software Architectures) is to address the
quality aspects of software architecture, focusing broadly on its
quality characteristics and how these relate to the design of software
architectures. Specific issues of interest are defining and modeling
quality measures, evaluating and managing architecture quality, linking
architecture to requirements and implementation, and preserving
architecture quality throughout the system lifetime.
QoSA is the premier forum for the presentation of new results in the
area of software architecture quality. It brings together researchers,
practitioners and students who are concerned with software architecture
quality in a holistic way. As a working conference QoSA has a strong
practical bias, encompassing research papers, industrial reports and
invited talks from renowned speakers.
This year the main theme of QoSA is "Evolving Architectures". Papers
addressing both novel research results advancing the state-of-the-art
of the field and experience learned from industrial case studies are
welcome. Reflecting the practical emphasis of QoSA, papers showcasing
applications along with a sound conceptual contribution are
particularly welcome. In addition to mature research papers this year
we also welcome position papers presenting ground-breaking and more
risky innovative research ideas, methods, and proposals that address
unexplored areas of research and challenge current thinking and/or
practices.
TOPICS
Topics of interest for the conference include (but are not limited to)
the following themes:
Architecture Design
* design decisions and their influence on the quality of software
architecture
* maintaining software architectures in the presence of change
* architectural refactorings and their implications for quality
* architectural standards and reference architectures
* model-driven methods and tools for architecture design and

CONFERENCE THEME
The special theme of the 24th edition of CAiSE is
Information Services. The notion of service plays a more and
more extensive role in the enterprise development. Indeed,
most of the enterprise management and manufacture is based
on the exchange of services: services to the customers
and/or citizens, services to support the
inter-organisational collaboration as well as services to
accomplish intra-organisational activities. Many
organizations and companies are sharing services with
others, interfacing services from others, or outsourcing
their ICT resources to various locations worldwide aided by
the internet. For all of them, the concept of service
becomes a cornerstone of their processes of collaboration,
innovation and value creation. In this context, the
information systems (IS) engineering is moving towards the
adoption of service-driven architectures where intra- and
inter-organisational business activities are carried out
with the help of information services. Information services
are considered as a new means to deal with the complexity,
modularity and interoperability of the constantly growing
IS. Design and development of information services and
information service-driven architectures become key to the
success of organisations and their business. Therefore, the
service-driven IS domain becomes a new complex domain, which
requires new interdisciplinary approaches and new
transdisciplinary ways of thinking.
CAiSE?12 aims to bring together researchers and
practitioners in the field of information systems
engineering and invites papers that address all these
challenges. The topics of interests include, but are not
restricted to:
Methodologies and Approaches for IS Engineering:
- Enterprise architecture and enterprise modelling
- Service science
- Requirements engineering
- Business process modelling and management
- Model, component, and software reuse

**********************************************************************
AUTHOR GUIDELINES
We invite four types of original and scientific papers:
- Formal and/or technical papers describe original solutions
(theoretical, methodological or conceptual) in the field of
IS engineering. A technical paper should clearly describe
the situation or
problem tackled, the relevant state of the art, the position
or solution suggested and the potential - or, even better,
the evaluated - benefits of the contribution.
- Empirical evaluation papers evaluate existing problem
situations or validate proposed solutions with scientific
means, i.e. by empirical studies, experiments, case studies,
simulations, formal analyses, mathematical proofs, etc.
Scientific reflection on problems and practices in industry
also falls into this category. The topic of the evaluation
presented in the paper as well as its causal or logical
properties must be clearly stated. The research method must
be sound and appropriate.
- Experience papers present problems or challenges
encountered in practice, relate success and failure stories,
or report on industrial practice. The focus is on 'what' and
on lessons learned, not on an in-depth analysis of 'why'.
The practice must be clearly described and its context must
be given. Readers should be able to draw conclusions for
their own practice.
- Exploratory Papers can describe completely new research
positions or approaches, in order to face to a generic
situation arising because of new ICT tools or new kinds of
activities or new IS challenges. They must describe
precisely the situation and demonstrate how current methods,
tools, ways of reasoning, or meta-models are inadequate.
They must rigorously present their approach and demonstrate
its pertinence and correctness to addressing the identified
situation.
**********************************************************************
SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results
described must be unpublished and must not be under review
elsewhere. Submissions must conform to Springer's LNCS
format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text,
figures, references and appendices. Submissions not
conforming to the LNCS format, exceeding 15 pages, or being
obviously out of the scope of the conference, will be
rejected without review. Information about the Springer LNCS
format can be found at
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.Three to five
keywords characterising the paper should be indicated at the
end of the abstract. The type of paper (technical/empirical
evaluation/experience/exploratory paper) should be indicated
in the submission.
Accepted papers will be presented at CAiSE'12 and published
in the conference proceedings, which are published in the
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).

Subject: [AISWorld] CFP: AMCIS 2012 - Minitrack on Trust in
Information Systems
Date: Fri, 25 Nov 2011 23:23:33 +0000
From: Thomas Stafford (tstaffor) <tstaffor(a)memphis.edu>

CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
Minitrack: *Trust in Information Systems*
**
*Description *
A user's trust and distrust in information systems are
important components in the interactive relationship between
users and their systems. A user has to trust a technology
before the technology is adopted and fully used. While there
is a rich literature on interpersonal trust, trust in
information systems has been under-researched and much of
what we know about trust in IS contexts is derived from the
interpersonal views promulgated through the organizational
behavior research. Hence, the conceptualization of trust in
information systems needs to be clarified and expanded to
include not only the interpersonal view but also the
intermediated views that arise from considerations of the
source credibility paradigm from mass communications theory.
In this way, the similarities and differences between
interpersonal trust and trust in information systems will be
better understood. Though concepts and theoretical
frameworks from prior literature on interpersonal trust have
investigated trust in information systems, the components of
trust that are derived from combined source and media
effects in the source effects paradigm can explain much of
how users interact with and come to trust technology
mediated sources in eCommerce, eBusiness and personal
contexts. Designing more trustworthy technology requires
well-informed research, and the expansion of our
understanding of the concept of trust beyond the
interpersonal context, for specific use in information
systems. What we learn from applying new conceptualizations
of the trust construct in information systems will also lead
to better understanding of adoption and use of
technology-mediated channels for business and personal
purposes. From this, new contextual factors can be discerned
which may have important moderating effects on key
technology outcomes.
We welcome the submissions addressing all aspects of trust
and distrust in information systems, credibility, deception,
privacy violations, and the like. We welcome conceptual,
theoretical or empirical research papers.

Zeitschrift: HMD Praxis der Wirtschaftsinformatik (http://hmd.dpunkt.de/)
Schwerpunktheft August 2012 (HMD 286):*Mobile Computing*
*Vorschau:*
Dem mobilen Arbeiten gehört die Zukunft! Verschiedene Studien belegen,
