SCOPE:
Services have become an impressive factor for growth and the creation of
jobs. 93% of the new jobs created in the U.S. between 1970 and 2000 are
jobs in services . Leading enterprises in the U.S. derive more than 50% of
their revenues from services. This applies not only to pure services such
as transportation but also for material products that are augmented by
services such as maintenance, consulting and training. Through services,
enterprises stabilize their revenues. There is no accepted general
definition of service, but many definitions contain the idea, that a
service is the application of specialized competences (knowledge and
skills) for the benefit of another entity, rather than the production of
units of output . Services are more and more considered as part of a
so-called service system. A service system is defined as a value
co-production configuration of people, technology, other internal and
external service systems, and shared information (such as language,
processes, metrics, prices, policies, and laws).
Therefore it is no surprise that the term service has also become very
popular in enterprise computing. However, the term service may have
different meanings in enterprise computing. Three flavours of services can
be differentiated: technology services, software-services, and business
services.
1. Technology services are more hardware flavoured services which are
provided using computers. They may have a human addressee but contain many
infrastructure services such as providing computing power, storage etc.
They are an important topic in management and practice collections such as
ITILV3 or standards such as ISO/IEC 20000 have gained a high popularity.
2. Software services are managed in so-called
Service-Oriented-Architectures that are a popular paradigm for creating
enterprise software. A service in the context of SOA is a special kind of
interface for an encapsulated unit of software.
3. Business services are services which directly support business
processes. They may be further differentiated into those visible to the
customer and those that are not. Business processes can also be developed
dynamically (on-the-fly) using business services which are available in a
repository for a given business domain.
In the field of Information Systems and -in a broader sense- Enterprise
Computing, the notion of Enterprise modelling refers to a collection of
conceptual modelling techniques for describing different facets of the
organisation including operational (IS), organisational (business
processes, actors, flow of information etc), and teleological (purposes)
considerations. Existing enterprise modelling frameworks stress the
necessity of representing and structuring enterprise knowledge taking into
account all these facets in order to develop IS and IT architectures that
enterprises need. The contribution of the software systems to the
realization of the business processes and consequently to the objectives
of the company is of primary importance. A change in one of these facets
of the organization implies multiple impacts on the two other facets. In
other words, it seems unrealistic to consider an organizational change
without any impact on the information system or an evolution of the IS
which does not call into question the processes or even the objectives of
the organization.
An enterprise architecture,,defines the interactions and articulations
between business and information technology and their alignment or
congruence. A service-oriented enterprise architecture uses services to
describe the articulations of business and information technology. It has
to identify the business services needed to support the business processes
of the enterprise, and to map the business services to technology and
software services . Technology and software services are both called IT
services in the following.
The enterprise computing systems which shall manage Service-oriented
Enterprise Architectures have to support the creation, administration and
execution of services. Thus, they must be able to store the service
definitions and make them available for a consumer in a service catalogue.
The same applies to the so-called service-level agreements that define the
quality of service agreed upon with consumers. Upon a service request from
a consumer entity, the service support system has to monitor the
fulfilment of the service-level agreements and also to provide remediation
procedures which contain so-called escalation mechanisms. Furthermore,
based on the monitoring, improvement procedures shall be established.
GOALS:
The goal of the workshop is to clarify the relationship between business
process management and service provisioning. The objective of this
workshop is twofold:
(i) To characterise the strong relationship existing between Business
Process Management (BPM) and Service oriented Enterprise Architecture
(SoEA)
(ii) To develop concepts and methods to assist the engineering and the
management of Service-Oriented Enterprise Architectures (SoEA) and their
support systems.
TOPICS OF INTEREST:
During the workshop we will discuss the following topics:
1. Service engineering
- Do we need new paradigms to cope with service engineering?
- How are business services discovered, defined, composed, adapted?
- How are business services assigned to business processes?
- How are technology-services discovered, defined, composed, adapted?
- How are technology-services assigned to business services?
- Are there design patterns for developing service-oriented systems?
- How can the MDA/MDD techniques and methods be applied for engineering
SoEA?
- Which test methods exist for technology-services?
- How are business services and technology-services rolled out?
- Which change management procedures have to be applied during the
deployment of SoEA?
2. Service management
- Which benchmarks and key performance indicators should be applied to
services?
- Which information system architectures are adequate for services?
- Which approaches exist for mastering the migration of legacy systems to
SoEA?
- Which triggers exist and what mechanisms should be applied for
escalation?
- Which approaches exist for the continual improvement of services?
- Which evaluation and validation techniques can be applied for SoEA?
3. Alignment with business strategy
- Which interdependencies exist between services and business strategy?
- Which concepts and methods are necessary to align services with the
business strategy?
- Which new potentials to reengineer business processes are created by
services?
- How are services aligned with compliance requirements?
- How are compliance and governance requirements enforced?
SUBMISSION:
Full papers (8-10 pages in the IEEE-CS format) describing mature results
are sought. In addition, short papers (4 pages in the IEEE-CS format) may
be submitted to facilitate discussion of recent research results and
ongoing projects. The paper selection will be based upon the relevance of
a paper to the main topics, as well as upon its quality and potential to
generate relevant discussion.
All papers published in the EDOC 2009 workshop proceedings must be in the
IEEE Computer Society format (http://www.computer.org/portal/site/cscps/
information for authors). It is strongly recommended that all papers are
already in this format when they are first submitted to workshops. This
gives precise picture of the paper length and avoids rework if the paper
is accepted.
All papers will be peer reviewed based on the paper. Please submit your
paper to Selmin.Nurcan.(a)univ-paris1.fr
Proceedings of EDOC 2009 workshops will be published after the conference
as ePub by the IEEE Computer Society Conference Publishing Services (CPS)
and included in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library (CSDL) and the
IEEE Xplore. There will be one electronic volume containing proceedings
from all workshops.
At least one author of each accepted workshop paper will have to register
for the whole EDOC 2009 conference and attend the workshop to present the
paper. Analogously to previous years, there will be no workshop-only
registration at EDOC 2009. If a paper is not presented in the workshop, it
will be removed from the workshop proceedings published in the IEEE Xplore
digital library.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
All papers will be published in the workshop wiki before the workshop, so
that everybody can learn about the problems that are important for other
participants. The workshop will consist of long and short paper
presentations, brainstorming sessions and discussions. A workshop report
will be created collaboratively using the workshop wiki.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Knowledge Management & E-Learning: An International Journal (KM&EL)
Special Issue on E-learning and Knowledge Management in the Early Years
Guest Editors
Hui Li, University of Hong Kong
Jennifer Masters, La Trobe University
E-learning and knowledge management are not passing fads but are
increasingly accepted as established practices in the field of early
childhood education. Very serious thought and practices have emerged to
innovate and invest in early years learning since the turn of the new
millennium. Knowledge is now widely regarded as a social and
co-constructible phenomenon and a young child is no longer a passive
receiver. Young children living in the age of Web 2.0 can learn through
experience, application, and conversation in community, physically or
virtually, with peers, parents, teachers and other adults, beyond the
classroom and across the media. These concepts are, in fact, of burgeoning
interest in communities of practice and knowledge networks.
Although most early childhood educators recognize and practice some kinds
of e-learning, most have failed to master the basic theory and practice of
knowledge management. What does e-learning mean for early years contexts
all over the world? How does an early childhood educator understand about
knowledge management? How could early years learning be dramatically
enhanced by knowledge management and e-learning? What are the remarkable
achievements regarding knowledge management and e-learning in the sector
of early childhood education? Are there any patterns and what are their
implications? All these questions are not only interesting but also
inspiring and therefore a special issue such as this one will be
beneficial to take stock of the ongoing practices in the field. For the
first time, knowledge management and e-learning is put together with early
childhood education in this special issue. It is expected that the
integration will be an emerging topic in the field and this special issue
will provide an ideal arena for the discussion and dissemination of this
topic and related studies.

computer-based knowledge & skill assessment in learning settings and
based on that feedback provision for students and teachers.
The /International Conference on Interactive Computer aided Learning
(ICL)/ is an interdisciplinary conference which aims to focus on the
exchange of relevant trends and research results as well as the
presentation of practical experiences in interactive computer aided
learning.
*Background*
Our modern life at the beginning of the 21st century is strongly
influenced by effects such as rapidly changing and developing
information, technology-enhanced communication and information access,
and new forms of production and services in a globalized world. This
situation requires individuals to adapt their skills and competencies.
Consequently, educational objectives and societal expectations have
changed significantly in recent years. Modern learning settings must
consider learning community aspects as well as learner-centered,
knowledge-centered and assessment-centered aspects.
By focusing on the assessment, this concept can be further distinguished
in (1) summative assessment, performed at the end of a set of learning
activities, and (2) formative assessment, which is intended to give
continuous feedback to students and teachers. The latter mentioned
formative assessment gives information about the current state of
knowledge and/or the degree of knowledge acquisition within learning
activities.
Assessment is an important component of modern teaching and learning
processes in face-to-face courses as well as in e-learning environments;
it provides valuable feedback to teachers and students which allows the
revision and adaptation of teaching and learning activities.
Furthermore, assessment activities and results can also be utilized for
building and strengthening metacognitive skills. However, continuous and
frequent assessment in learning processes may cause excessive efforts
and costs. Therefore, computer-assisted assessment systems (CaAS) and
computer-based assessment systems (CbAS) have become of increasing
interest over the years. Assessment systems may support parts or the
entire chain of the assessment lifecycle. This lifecycle includes
authoring and management of assessment items, compilation of specific
tests, performance of assessments, and compilation and management
results. Additionally, emerging interest in the sharing and re-use of
assessment items or compiled assessment tests and the exchangeability of
assessment outcomes has resulted in standardization efforts, such as the
IMS Question & Test Interoperability Specification (IMS QTI).
The special track will bring together international researchers as well
as practitioners from different organisations who will have plenty of
time for networking and real-world knowledge sharing.
We invite submissions that deal with issues including, but not limited to:
* Aspects of formative and summative assessment
* History and challenges of e-assessment

Editorial Preface from the current Issue:
This is the third issue of the Journal of Information Privacy & Security (JIPS) for 2008. This issue includes three articles, one interview, and one book review. In the digital age of today, we are concerned with many security and privacy issues. As this digital age continues to affect our daily personal, financial, and corporate activities; confidentiality, usability and safeguarding our information play an ever increasing role in our everyday lives. The concern for privacy and security will continue to be a topic of many discussions from data security, to the risks of cyber crime, to the development of electronic voting systems that can assure voters privacy and security. In this issue, each article discusses privacy and security related concerns from different perspectives.
The first paper titled "Consumer's PCs: A Study of Hard Drive Forensics, Data Recovery, and Exploitation" by B. Dawn Medlin, Joseph A. Cazier, and Robert M. Weaver discusses the existing issues of unsecured data in disposed hard drives and the security risks implied when the process of erasure of data is not completed successfully. The authors describe how traces of personal information such as names, social security numbers, pin numbers/passwords, and personal address as well as potentially embarrassing information can expose an individual to the devastating effects of violations and other security risks. The authors expose the types of information that may still be found and, in some cases, recovered from disposed hard disk drives, explain the risks involved, and provide recommendations how to protect sensitive data.
The second paper titled "Prime III: Defense-in-Depth Approach to Electronic Voting" by Juan E. Gilbert, Jonathan MacDonald, Raquel Hill, Derek T. Sanders, Idongesit Mkpong-Ruffin, E. Vincent Cross, II, Ken Rouse, Jerome McClendon, and Gregory Rogers, reviews the technical and security issues surrounding the Prime III electronic voting system in order to propose a solution, based on existing information security research. The study starts with an introduction to the Prime III electronic voting system, outlining the system's architecture to further discuss the electronic voting risk assessment, and then identify four classes of electoral threats: Disclosure, Deception, Disruption, and Usurpation. To prevent these risks and increase voter trust, the authors suggest the use of a software independent system, where the voter-verified video audit trail and encryption technology were implemented to ensure voter privacy and security.
The third paper titled "The Role of Emotions in Shaping Consumers' Privacy Beliefs about Unfamiliar Online Vendors" by Han Li, Rathindra Sarathy, and Jie Zhang, extends the investigations within the privacy of information in the electronic field. Using the Theory of Reasoned Action, the authors attempt to explain the perceived privacy beliefs (privacy protection) from a vendor's point of view, in the specific case where the user is unfamiliar with the vendor site. This belief is generated as an emotional response of the customer's interaction with the given vendor's web-page, stating that both the beliefs and the emotions together can have an influential impact on the customer's decision to make a purchase. The authors then suggest that online vendors should increase their attention toward customer emotion when interacting with their web-site, especially when it is a first time interaction.
In the Expert Opinion section, Andrew Colarik, Information Security Consultant, Speaker, Author and Inventor, describes the relationship between the concepts of security and privacy. The security matrix demonstrating four factors involving privacy and security issues is presented and discussed. He then provides his opinion on the future direction for privacy issue.
In the Book Review section, Choton Basu reviews the book entitled Born Digital - Understanding the First Generation of Digital Natives by John Palfrey and Urs Gasser. Basu highly recommended this book for teachers and parents. In his opinion, this is an excellent, must-read book. He also states that although the book does not present a detailed look at the Born Digital phenomena, it certainly covers every relevant facet.

GUEST EDITORAL PREFACE
Collaborative Supply Chain Management
Jairo R. Montoya-Torres, Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia
Globalization and the advances in the development of new technologies have
a deep impact on the development and the positioning of companies on
international marketplaces. In addition, customers are more demanding in
term of quality, lead time, and order fulfillment. Firms must anticipate
customers requests and adapt to market changes. This quest for
flexibility and reactivity affects the conception and the management of
firms and more generally their logistic systems and contributes to the
development of partnership relations, to the emergence of mergers or
strategic alliances between companies. The purpose of this special issue
on collaborative supply chain management is to publish selected research
articles from academicians and practitioners that examine the aspects
related with internal and external logistics and operations management
within a collaborative context.

PAPER ONE
Analyzing the Impact of Coordinated Decisions within a Three-Echelon
Supply Chain
Mauricio Núñez-Muñoz, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia
Jairo R. Montoya-Torres, Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia
Supply chain performance is highly influenced by the coordination level
between its members. In this article, the authors consider a three-echelon
direct sell supply chain model and focus on the problem of coordinated
decision-making between its members. The authors present an approach that
measures the impact of the degree of coordination between the members.
Using a geometric brownian process, demand behavior is modeled. Simulation
models are run in order to analyze various cooperation scenarios.

PAPER TWO
An Approach of Decision-Making Support Based on Collaborative Agents for
Unexpected Rush Orders Management
El Habib Nfaoui, University of Lyon, France and University of Sidi Med Ben
AbdEllah, Morocco
Omar El Beqqali, University of Sidi Med Ben AbdEllah, Morocco
Yacine Ouzrout, University of Lyon, France
Abdelaziz Bouras, University of Lyon, France
Decisions at different levels of the supply chain can no longer be
considered independently since they may influence profitability throughout
the supply chain. This paper focuses on the interest of multi-agent
paradigms for the collaborative coordination in global distribution supply
chains. Multi-agent computational environments are suitable for a broad
class of coordination and negotiation issues involving multiple autonomous
or semiautonomous problem solving contexts. The authors propose an
agent-based distributed architecture to better the management of rush
unexpected orders and presents a first architecture validated by a real
and industrial case.

PAPER THREE
Supply Chain Coordination by Contracts with Inventory Holding Cost Share
Alejandra Gomez-Padilla, University of Guadalajara, Mexico
In this document, the author analyzes the importance of contracts for
coordination between two companies in a supply chain. In the studied
situation, one company or supplier, supplies one product to the other
company, who is a retailer. The companies coordinate by two types of
decisions: economic (concerning prices fixed on a contract) and physical
exchange (concerning the inventory to be held). Two types of contracts are
presented: one contract with a simple pricing scheme and two contracts
with inventory holding cost shared among the companies of the supply
chain.

PAPER FOUR
Measuring the Impact of Supplier-Customer Information Sharing on
Production Scheduling
Gloria Rodríguez-Verjan, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia
Jairo R. Montoya-Torres, Universidad de La Sabana, Colombia
Nowadays, implementing collaboration strategies between the members of the
supply chain have to obtain a more reactive and flexible supply chain in
highly competitive markets have been an important research topic. However,
few studies have been done on the impact of such collaboration strategies
at one of the lower short-term decision levels: production scheduling.
This article is devoted to the study of information sharing between the
members of a supply chain in a dynamic context. The authors consider a
typical made-to-order direct sell supply chain without finished products
inventory, similar to the one implemented by Internet PC sellers. This
article compares various scheduling algorithms implemented to study
different scenarios of information sharing among the members of the chain.
The authors consider scenarios where no information is shared and
scenarios where some or all information is shared. The authors develop a
simulation study in order obtain insights about the impact of information
sharing on the performance of the chain.

PAPER FIVE
Optimal Solutions for a Multi-Product, Multi-Echelon Production and
Replenishment System
Fidel Torres, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia
Gonzalo Mejía, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia
The effective coordination is a key element in the success of many
cooperative supply chains. The production, distribution, and supply must
be adequately synchronized in order to satisfy the customer needs and at
the same time optimize operational costs. This article presents a
multi-product, multi-echelon inventory system, which comprises one
manufacturer, a number of distribution centers, and a number of retailers.
The near-optimal order quantities for each of the supply chain agents are
calculated with a mathematical model. The authors generate and test a
number of instances.
