1. Conference Theme
-------------------
EuroSPI is unique in the way it brings both communities, researchers and
industry, together. It is also unique in the way that we produce two
proceedings, research papers with Springer and industry/experience papers
with Wiley. Thus researchers are asked to write scientific papers with a
practical background which could be re-used in industry. Thus industry experts
are asked to write experience / industry papers With a vision which could
fruitfully push the ideas of researchers again. This background corresponds
with the theme as follows:
- "Experiences with the Implementation": It is not enough to describe a new
method or idea. We need proof or case studies that the method worked.
- "Improvement and Innovation ": The applied methods and techniques shall have
a focus on innovating and improving processes and products.
- "Related Benefits in the Organisation": The papers shall outline the
measured / analysed benefit for the organisation.

CALL FOR PAPERS
"Social Network Analysis in IS Research"
Minitrack at
15th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2009)
August 6-9 2009, San Fransisco, California
http://amcis2009.org/
****************************************************
The term social network denotes the social structure that emerges from
human actors' interaction with each other. Over the years, scholars in
the domain of anthropology, sociology, psychology and organizational
theory have proposed different methods and techniques to discover these
structures and to allow inferences about functioning of social networks.
These methods and techniques are generally summarized under the term
social network analysis (Wasserman & Faust, 1994).
The rise of web 2.0 and social networking sites in the internet have
recently fostered various trends in scientific research about social
networks. For example, sociological researchers, who have traditionally
been dealing with SNA, started relying on methods from computer science
to handle large amounts of electronically stored data, and IS and
management scholars called their attention to SNA research and started
integrating their own methods of data collection and analysis. Terms
including web science (Berners-Lee et al. 2006) and web mining among
others may serve as labels for these various research streams.
The AMCIS 2009 minitrack on social network analysis focuses on
contributions of social network analysis (SNA) in IS research. Topics of
interest include (but are not limited to):
- network evolution / dynamic social network analysis
- exponential random graph (p*) models / simulation investigation for
empirical network analysis (SIENA)
- models accounting for network autocorrelation
- scale-free networks
- relationship between structural properties of social networks and
individual / group / organizational performance
- web science / webometrics
- web mining / trend identification
- analysis of social networking sites in the internet
- semantic network analysis / content analysis
- citation- and coauthorship-networks
- case studies of organizations employing SNA to manage knowledge flows
- collaborative innovation networks, communities of practice
- netnography
- intercorporate networks
- social capital
- decision support systems employing SNA
- new data collection methods (social badges etc.)
- methods and tools for network visualization
- algorithms for analyzing social networks
The minitrack is interdisciplinary in nature. We will invite
contributions from a broad spectrum including information systems,
computer science, economics, management, sociology, psychology,
anthropology, biology and physics in order to fully incorporate the
methodological, technical as well economic aspects of social network
analysis. We also invite practitioners that will enrich the discussions
through their experiences with business applications of social
networking sites.
Papers will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind system and will be
considered for Best Paper Awards. In 2009, a Best Paper Award for a
practitioner-oriented paper will be selected with input from CIOs.
IMPORTANT DATES
Submission Opens: January 2, 2009

CALL FOR PAPERS: Special issue of Electronic Government, An International
Journal on "E-Government: Past, Present, and Future"
Guest Editors:
Dr. Vikas Jain, University of Tampa, USA
Dr. Yogesh Dwivedi, Swansea University, UK
Dr. Shirish C. Srivastava, HEC School of Management, France
Dr. Mohini Singh, RMIT University, Australia
E-government is an emerging paradigm to deliver government services to
citizens, businesses, and other stakeholders through the use of Internet
and information and communication technologies (ICTs). E-government is an
extension of e-business applications to the public sector. Increased
adoption and application of e-government across countries is being
propelled by its potential to offer not only a convenient service to
citizens but also related benefits such as reduced transaction costs and
enhanced operational efficiency. Further, e-government can help to improve
e-governance. Consequently, e-government is being increasingly regarded as
a panacea for overcoming many of the shortcomings of the traditional
government set-up.
Over years, e-government development has transitioned from cataloguing,
transaction processing to vertical and horizontal integration in both
developed and developing nations. The evolution of e-government from the
informational interfaces of the yesteryears to the transformational
applications of today has in large measures been influenced by many of the
contingent environmental factors. The development of e-government has not
been uniform across the world. For example, there are only a few countries
like Singapore, Canada and the USA which lead the e-government initiatives
across the world. Most nations are still struggling with their
e-government programs. Despite their tremendous transformational
potential, the evidence about the success of e-government efforts across
various countries is mostly sporadic and diffused. Consequently, the full
potential of e-government remains largely unexploited.
Almost a decade after the first e-government implementations in the world
were initiated, it is an opportune time to reflect on the past and present
so that the future of e-government can be charted. There is a need to
examine issues surrounding e-government today and challenges for the
future. The e-government evolutionary models of the past may have become
redundant in the face of rapidly changing technological options.
The objective of this special issue is to provide an outlet for publishing
original research highlighting current issues related to technical,
organisational, managerial and socio-economic aspects of e-sovernment
adoption, evolution, implementation and impact. We invite papers that
address various aspects of e-government projects from a theoretical,
conceptual, or empirical perspective to set the stage for future research
direction in e-government. Both quantitative as well as qualitative
studies on e-government from developed and developing countries
perspectives will be encouraged.
Subject Coverage: Contributed papers may deal with, but are not limited
to:
* The development and implementation of e-government.
* Frameworks for successful e-government implementation
* Social and economic impacts of e-government
* Effect of socio-economic factors in e-government implementation and
adoption
* Cross-country comparisons of e-government projects
* E-government projects in developing countries and developed
countries
* Enablers and inhibitors of e-government success
* Models of electronic service delivery
* Frameworks for e-government evaluation
* E-government and e-governance
* E-government readiness of government and citizens across countries
* Role of technological and regulatory environment in e-government
implementation
* E-citizen and e-democracy
* Emerging e-government issues

5th High-End Visualization Workshop
(sponsored by the Center for Computation & Technology at LSU)
Date: March 18-21, 2009
Location:
Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA
Open issues in visualization with special concentration on
applications in astrophysics, numerical relativity, computational fluid
dynamics and high-performance computing.
PROGRAM:
Open issues in visualization with special concentration on
applications in astrophysics, numerical relativity, computational fluid
dynamics and high-performance computing. This workshop is the fifth
one in a series of meetings among researchers in the field of
scientific visualization and end-users from application areas with
needs for high-end visualizations of their data. Previous events took
place in Obergurgl, Austria, hosted by the University of Innsbruck.
This year, for the first time, it will take place in Louisiana.
This year's feature: Remote and Collaborative Visualization
With the technological resources of networking resources, scientific
visualization is no longer not only bound to local desktop machines,
but it has even become mandatory to utilize the ability to connect to
other resources. On the one hand, the sheer amount of data from
modern supercomputing simulation makes it impossible to transfer all
data to a single machine or even laptop, and the scientists face
the question how to inspect their data without loosing possibly
important details. On the other hand, with collaborations among the
globe, it is as relevant to share views of data same as sending emails
or browsing websites. Yet, no such technology exists for scientific
data. We intend to discuss current implementations, visions for future
directions and what the highest demands and possible
bottlenecks are for such technology.
This workshop is inter-disciplinary by nature, and as we do every
year, we also encourage contributions that are outside the focus topic.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
* Remote visualization servers
* Collaborative visualization
* Interoperability among different visualization software
* Distributed and parallel visualization
* Scalability of visualization algorithms
* Existing visualization frameworks (e.g., VTK, Amira, Chombovis) and
their support for remote and collaborative visualization
* Workflow management systems and integrability with visualization
software
* Demands and constraints as seen from end-users
* Availability of Grid technologies for visualization, in particular
interactive
SUBMISSION:
We invite authors to submit original and unpublished work (also not
submitted elsewhere for review) reporting solid and innovative results
and positions on any of the conference topics. Papers should not
exceed 10 single-spaced pages of text using 10-point size type on 8.3
x 11.7 inch (A4) paper, no columns. All bibliographical references,
tables, and figures must be included in these 10 pages. Submissions

Call for Papers for the AMCIS 2009 Mini Track
'Enterprise Systems Governance'
(part of the 'Enterprise Systems (SIG EntSys)' track)
AMCIS - Americas Conference on Information Systems
San Francisco, USA, August 6-9, 2009
http://www.amcis2009.org
Enterprise Systems (ES) are typically understood as bundles of technology and business knowledge which integrate all facets of the enterprise to support operations and management holistically. Being off-the-shelf software ES have to be adapted to the user's organization. With the recent trend to offer ES based on the principles of a service-oriented architecture (SOA), this adaptation faces a paradigmatically different set of challenges. The boundaries of SOA-based ES continuously dissolve and services are invoked across enterprises. Service calls are nested within processes which also often transcend the boundaries of a single organization, leading to so-called cross-organizational business processes.
Diligent governance has been recognized in recent years as a major requirement for successful adaptation and operation of an SOA, especially for large ES. Governance in this changing world of service-enabled ES needs to encompass guidelines and rules which can be adopted and realized by the affected management processes. Governance must focus on the adoption and operation of an SOA as part of the enterprise architecture of a company. It must provide guidelines and mechanisms to ensure the integrity of an SOA and its adaptability to business and administration processes. New challenges emerge, e.g. through a change in roles and responsibilities, service lifecycles, standards, and finance. In order to provide homogenization of these issues, new governance approaches and corresponding applications have to be developed. But in order to be effective, the central challenge is to guarantee compliance to legal, technical as well as internal regulations.
This mini-track deals with the application and support of governance in service-enabled Enterprise Systems. It welcomes papers from academia as well as practice.
Best papers will be invited to submit an extended version to AIS Transactions on Enterprise Systems.
Suggested Topics:
* Governance approaches for SOA architectures and enterprise services
* Governance frameworks, processes, and maturity models
* Governance measures and KPI's
* Repurposing of existing governance frameworks such ITIL or COBIT for SOA
* Case studies of the development, implementation, adoption and maintenance of supply chain
software as well as governance approaches
Important Dates:
* February 20, 2009 Deadline for Paper Submission
* April 2, 2009 Notification of Paper Acceptance
* April 20, 2009 Camera Ready Copy Due
