Call For Papers
The 2nd International Conference on Industrial Informatics and Systems
Engineering (IISE 2009)
Leipzig, Germany, 23-25 March 2009
http://siwn.org.uk/2009leipzig/IISE09.htm
There has been an important trend that systems in industries have become
more and more large-scale and computer- and network-enabled. The behaviors
of industrial systems became increasingly complex. Systems Engineering
viewpoints and methodologies are desperately needed to tackle issues, for
example, system assessment, testing and metrics of performance and long
term effects, the intricate relationships between systems and their
environments including emergent interactions among system components, and
the couplings between systems software and hardware infrastructures. In
order to address these challenges, knowledge how to master these
complexities is required. Especially, distributed knowledge, its
embodiement within the environment, for example by multi-agent systems,
and the mastering of the dynamic interactions of these distributed
knowledge items will be in the main focus of IISE 2009. Accordingly,
system developments and evaluations have to include new criteria, for
example, robustness, evolvability, dependability, engineerability, etc.
The IISE 2009 conference aims at providing an international forum for the
researchers and practitioners in the related subject areas to exchange
research results, experiences, as well as the visions of the future and
the scientific and practical problems that challenge the current problems
of industrial informatics and systems engineering.

Scope
-----
Adaptivity spans a range of behavioural complexity and sophistication
where basic configurability and full autonomic behaviour appear as
extreme points in a wide spectrum. It can be defined as the ability of
a system to reconcile its requirements with the elements it is
interacting with,by negotiating and adopting an optimal behaviour
within and across different and potentially heterogeneous
environments.
Implicitly sustained by a variety of models these elements may be
users, content, applications, systems, middleware, networks or
operating systems. They define a hierarchy of levels where
heterogeneity can occur. One specific instance where this
heterogeneity is resolved is in the personalization of interactive
systems through the generation and mediation of implict and explict
user profiles and ontologies.
At a lower level, in the middleware reflective architectures have been
considered as an effective means of offering flexibility in QoS
provision, while the endowment of a network with self-awareness
enhances its capacity for self-management.
The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation
and discussion of issues related to adaptivity and its role in the
provision of innovative solutions in heterogeneous environments.
------
Topics
------
The workshop seeks original contributions on adaptivity and adaptive
systems related but not limited to the following:
- Personalization - Ontologies for personalization
- Self configuration - Behaviour optimisation
- Negotiation - Emergence
- Reflective architectures - Architectural Frameworks
- Knowledge management - Workflow management
- Resource brokering - Service provision
- Models - QoS provision
- Context-awareness - Model-driven engineering

by October 2, 2008.
TRACK DESCRIPTION
The social issues in IS track of AMCIS 2009 addresses social or community
level issues that impact information systems technology. Social issues
inevitably affect socio-technical systems, as they are social systems built
upon a technical base, e.g. email, electronic markets, social network
systems, knowledge exchange systems, blogs, chat rooms and others. Social
requirements originate in social communities, and are in addition to
human-computer interaction (HCI) requirements, which in turn add to those of
traditional technology (hardware and software). The field of socio-technical
research welcomes research from all disciplines, including computing,
engineering, law, education, computing, health, business and many others.
Possible areas in addition to previous mini-tracks include:
1. Social issues in information system requirements and agile
development
2. Social issues in online collaboration and work systems: group
writing, task teams and online organizational work
3. Social issues in virtual communities: innovation, leadership, roles,
social identity and social capital
4. Social issues in online resource sharing: open source systems,
online file and media sharing and knowledge sharing repositories
5. Social Issues in online social games, simulations and worlds
6. Social issues in online conversing and relating: email, blogs and
social networks
7. Social issues in online risk: trust, accountability, ownership,
disclosure, anonymity and participation
8. Ethical issues in information system development, operation and use
9. Social issues in online trade, markets, negotiation and customer
communities
10. Online research collaboratories and e-research groups
11. Social evaluation and performance of online communities and services
12. Social issues in online community assessments: reputation and karma
systems, online product ratings and e-voting systems
13. Online support for minority, disadvantaged and indigenous groups

**************************************************************************
The two calls in greater detail:
1. Electronic Markets - Focus Theme Section on 'Internet of Things'
http://www.electronicmarkets.org/news/messages/cfp-internet-of-things-19-3
Over the last decades, the use of information technology in firms has made
a major contribution toward the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of intra-
as well as interorganisational processes. However, to date it has only
been able to provide very limited solutions to a series of entrepreneurial
problems related to the visibility and management of physical processes,
e.g. shrinkage along the entire supply chain, inventory inaccuracy, and
product counterfeits. The common denominator in all these problems is the
persisting lack of integration between the real, physical world or the
reality of molecules on the one hand, and the digital world of information
systems, the internet or the reality of data and bits on the other hand.
In recent years, however, perpetual miniaturization and price decline lead
to an ever increasing pervasion of the physical world by tiny
microelectronic devices in the form of Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) transponders, NFC mobile phones, location systems using UWB
communication, ZigBee-based wireless sensors, and other ubiquitous
computing technologies that permanently collect and process data on their
environment. From a managerial perspective, such technologies bring along
the next evolutionary step of integration that bridges the
before-mentioned gap between information systems and physical processes.
Unlike conventional data feeds by means of keyboards or barcode scans,
these devices generate a continuous and dense stream of real-time data
that grants an information system eyes and ears, thus shaping an ‘Internet
of Things (IoT)’ that reflects events in the physical world. This focus
theme section of Electronic Markets seeks original articles that explore
how the internet can take the next step in its evolution: the integration
of real-world objects into its virtual fabric.
The development of the IoT is an ongoing process that will need to
overcome various challenges to realize this vision. The first refers to
the development and adoption of technologies and standards that are
required to deploy industry-wide infrastructures to handle billions of
sensor-equipped items. Integrating the plethora of data streams and events
generated by these with existing enterprise systems poses another major
challenge to user companies. Secondly, the economic value of real-time
information for physical supply chain operations or even a firm's entire
business model is still not fully understood. In recent years, for
example, numerous white papers, trade publications, and research reports
have discussed the benefits of RFID technologies in the supply chain and
beyond. However, most of the estimates stated therein were not
substantiated and some of the business cases that try to justify according
technology deployments not even require RFID. Thirdly, companies, which
make use of IoT technologies might sooner or later be facing a variety of
security and privacy issues, e.g. in the form of campaigns of privacy
activists, who have been warning against omnipresent surveillance for
years. Not least, the IoT might have a deep impact on consumer behavior
and societal structures in a similar way as the traditional Internet had
in recent years.
Potential topics for submissions to this focus theme section include, but
are not limited to:
- Emerging IoT-induced business models and process changes
- Technology adoption and the evolution of standards
- Analytical models and simulation studies of operationalbenefits
- Strategic impact of visibility over events in the physical world
- Case studies from real-world deployments in retail, logistics,
healthcare, etc.
- Enterprise systems integration and data analytics
- Security & privacy aspects of the IoT
- Societal implications of the IoT
Additional topic suggestions are welcome. All papers will be peer reviewed
and should conform to Electronic Markets publication standards.
Methodological and theoretical pluralism (empirical or theoretical work,
qualitative research, design science, prototypes etc.) is welcomed by the
journal.
Full papers are invited to be submitted by 07 December 2008. All papers
must be original, not published or under review elsewhere. If you would
like to discuss any aspect of the focus theme section, please contact the
Editor for the focus theme section.

IEEE IC issues in 2009/2010 - however, submitting early increases the
probability of acceptance as the number of available slots decreases over
time)

Betreff: [isworld] Call for papers: ICT Governance, Strategic Alignment

ICT Governance, Strategic Alignment and Service Management
Guest Editor: Dr Aileen Cater-Steel,University of Southern Queensland,
Australia
You are cordially invited to submit a complete, original, unpublished
manuscript for the Information Systems Management Journal special issue on
ICT Governance, Strategic Alignment & Service Management.
The governance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has
recently emerged as a fundamental business imperative and is essential to
realise the value of ICT investment. The IT Governance Institute stresses
the importance of ICT governance as an integral part of enterprise
governance and consists of the leadership and organisational structures
and processes that ensure that the organisations IT sustains and extends
the organisations strategies and objectives (ITGI). Research from Weill
and Ross determined that effective ICT governance provides organisations
with significantly greater profits than companies with similar strategies.
Furthermore, the alignment of business and ICT strategy has remained a
major concern of Information Systems (IS) executives for more than a
decade.
One of the assumptions underlying studies to date is that the IT resources
are firmly under the control of the organisation. However, in reality, the
situation for contemporary organisations is far more complex due to the
following factors:
corporate data and applications reside on hardware assets owned by
service vendors, employees and contractors;
 a complex set of sourcing arrangements is used for IT service provision;
the challenge to ensure informed purchasing and to build capabilities to
manage external supply so that business value can be leveraged from
supplier performance;
the growth and challenge of controlling of mobile devices contributing
to ubiquitous computing.
The following topics are suggested but other related topics will be
considered:
Adoption, opportunities and challenges of frameworks and standards for
ICT Governance (e.g. CobiT and ISO/IEC 38500)
Development and use of models for measuring business-IT alignment
Adoption, opportunities and challenges of frameworks and standards for
IT Service Management (e.g. ITIL and ISO/IEC 20000)
Case studies detailing the experience of organisations seeking to
improve ICT Governance, Strategic Alignment or Service Management.
Education and training for managers, employees and students in ICT
Governance, Strategic Alignment or Service Management.
Organisation structure, roles and responsibilities, e.g. CIO, ICT
Strategy Committee, centralised/ decentralised, outsourced services.
ISM places a high value on article content that communicates advanced
practices to address current IS management challenges and innovative
applications of new, but proven, information technologies. The
methodological orientation is towards field research informed by published
literature, but primarily based on case studies, surveys, and field
experiences of IS experts.
Instructions for Authors
The ideal length of the submissions is 7,500 words, but if justified,
shorter and longer manuscripts will be considered. All submissions should
follow the general guidelines of the journal as specified at
www.tandf.co.uk/10580530. The manuscripts will be peer-reviewed according
to the journals general policy; all reviews are double-blind.
Prospective authors are welcome to submit an abstract to Dr. Aileen
Cater-Steel (caterst(a)usq.edu.au) for preliminary feedback on the
appropriateness of their planned manuscript.
Important dates:
Deadline for submission: October 31, 2008
Editorial decision to authors: November 30, 2008
Deadline for revisions: December 31, 2008
