* AIM OF THE WORKSHOP *
The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for discussion about issues
related to information credibility and its evaluation.
As computers and computer networks become more sophisticated, a huge
amount of information, such as that found in Web documents, has been
accumulated and circulated. Such information gives people a framework for
organizing their daily
lives. A well-functioning society needs technology that can be used to
manage this wealth of information and, in particular, investigate its
credibility.
This technology would be able to handle a wide range of tasks:
extracting credible information related to a given topic,
organizing this information, detecting its provenance, clarifying
background, facts, and various related opinions and the distribution of
them, and so on. Especially, as the Web is becoming a major source of
information nowadays, it is necessary to provide efficient and reliable
methods for evaluation of Web content's trustworthiness.
* TOPICS *
We invite submissions on any aspects of information credibility on the
Web. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Information credibility evaluation and its applications
- Content analysis for credibility evaluation
- Sentiment analysis of content
- Credibility of Web search results
- Search models and applications for trustworthy content
- Conflicting opinion detection and analysis
- Credibility evaluation of user-generated content
- Information credibility evaluation in social networks
- Analysis of information dissemination
- Estimation of author and publishing venue reputation
- Spatial and temporal aspects in information credibility
- Estimation of information age, provenance and validity
- Sociological and psychological aspects of information credibility
- Users study for information credibility
- Risk assessment of information credibility
- Multimedia content credibility
- Persuasive technologies
- Information credibility in online advertising and Internet monetization
- Object identification on the Web

eJOV - The Electronic Journal for Virtual Organizations and Networks (www.ejov.org)
Editorial: Alternative formats of scholarly publications
Academia worldwide is moving in the direction of viewing journal papers as the most accepted and highly rated genre of academic work. This trend has been strongly supported by the "publish-or-perish" reward systems for individual researchers, which prioritizes the publication outlet - assessed in form of journal rankings - over the substance and contribution of a publication. While the research paper has clear benefits in terms of focus, brevity and comparability, it is obvious that the research paper format - within the constraints of 5.000 - 10.000 words (with notable exceptions) - is too restrictive for several types of research outputs.
While paper based journals have to limit the space that they can offer for individual publications, eJOV as an online journal is not bound by the same space restrictions. Therefore we decided to recognize alternative formats of scholarly work for publication. With the introduction of the additional genre "eJOV Reports", we are committed to maintaining the quality criteria for submissions, i.e. that they will be subject to the same double blind review process as journal papers. eJOV Reports are meant to facilitate the publication of research and its discussion of conceptual foundations, methodological considerations, methods (including full questionnaires), primary data, or rich case descriptions. We would like to remind authors that reviewers' - and eventually the readers' - time is precious and therefore publishable reports need to make as efficient use of space as other publications. Authors therefore are asked to provide a brief rationale as to why they have chosen the report format.
eJOV Reports particularly aims at facilitating rich case descriptions and their analysis, as well as providing insights into the research process, with the development and use of research instruments, detailed results, elaborate discussion and conclusions. With this format, eJOV aims to support the research process by facilitating the exchange of deeper theoretical, methodological or epistemological reflections.
We invite submissions of research reports and other alternative formats of scholarly work that fit the scope of eJOV.
Bernhard Katzy, Stefan Klein
(Editors-in-chief)
The first eJOV report and contribution to eJOV's 10th volume "Assessment of the Development Trajectory for Real-Time Communication" by Frank Frössler, UCD, and Stefan Klein, University of Münster, presents a Delphi study. Next to a detailed analysis, the report covers the questionnaire which was used for the Delphi study, to enable the readers to better judge on the results and stimulate discussion on the Delphi method.
Abstract
This research report presents the results of a Delphi study on Real-time Communication (RTC), a recently emerging genre of communication and collaboration technology. So far, only a few empirically informed attempts have been made to conceptualize the technology and predict future trends in the young and dynamic RTC market. Therefore, a Delphi study with sixteen experts from academia, industry, and technology providers was conducted to discuss the positioning of RTC, market trends, implementation/ design issues, and the implications of RTC use on the organizational and individual level. The results indicate that RTC, interpreted as complementary to existing ICT, is expected make inroad into people's ICT landscape. The trend will go from simple stand-alone application towards add-ons to existing products, such as groupware or business packages. Moreover, in contrast to the often overly-optimistic business media, experts agree that RTC represent complex information systems whose outcome in organizations are difficult to predict. Instead, experts point out that the complex and highly situated character of RTC use needs to be taken into account. While this comprehensive report may identify potential starting points for future research, practitioners could benefit from it by being sensitized for the advantages, limitations and dangers associated with RTC use.

Final Acceptance Notification: November 30th, 2008
Final Paper Version Due: December 23rd, 2008
Overview
Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) are rapidly emerging challenges for
enterprise systems designers. The significance of these topics has
dramatically increased over the last few years as a result of numerous
events that led to some of the largest scandals in corporate history.
Compliance related software and services are expected to reach a market
value of over $27billion this year. At the same time, facilitating
compliant business process execution is increasingly complex due to the
growing number of regulations, frequent and dynamic changes, as well as
shared processes and services executing in highly decentralized
environments.
In the age of outsourcing, dynamic business networks, and global commerce,
it is inevitable that organizations will need to develop methods, tools
and techniques to design, engineer, and assess processes and services that
meet regulatory standards and contractual obligations. We expect
Governance, Risk and Compliance to play a significant part in several
applications, from transaction systems to management reporting
infrastructures. GRC is emerging as a critical and challenging area of
research and innovation. It introduces, among others, the need for new or
adapted modeling approaches for compliance requirements, the extension of
process and service modeling and execution frameworks for compliance and
risk management, and the detection of policy violations.
The goal of the special issue is to provide an outlet for researchers from
diverse backgrounds that contribute to this emerging area and make a
consolidated contribution in the form of new and extended methods that
address the challenges of governance, risk and compliance in information
systems.
Topics
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
-Compliance and Risk Modeling
-Policy definition and enforcement
-Compliant service and process design
-Noncompliant process identification
-Risk management
-Visualization and simulation of risk in process models
-Governance processes
-Integration and effectuation of multiple regulatory standards
-Compliance, risk and tolerance metrics
-Organizational structures to support compliance
-Separation of duties/Separation of rights
-Decision tracing
-Data provenance and lineage
-Work tracking
-Violation detection
-Technologies for compliance assurance
-Applications, case studies and use cases

Date: December 13, 2008, Paris, France
Workshop Website: www.web-2008.org
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Information and Communication Technologies continue to rapidly transform how business is done. e-business technologies and applications are also enabling new business models and redefining relations and processes within and across organizations.
The purpose of this workshop series is to provide an open forum for e-business researchers and practitioners to share research findings, explore novel ideas, discuss success stories and lessons learned, map out major challenges, and collectively chart future directions of e-business.
The theme of this year's workshop is "Designing e-Business Systems: Markets, Services and Networks". The thematic emphases for the past workshops (2002 to 2007) were mobile commerce, Web services, dynamic and service-oriented e-business, Web-enabled business values, the real-world impact of e-Business research, and customer-centric information systems respectively. With this year's workshop being located in Europe, we feel that the increasing importance of the design science approach, which has a long tradition in the European IS research, should be reflected in the workshop theme. We thus hope to stimulate discussions on how to overcome the barriers to the full acceptance of this approach and how it should and can be advanced. Research submissions along these lines are strongly encouraged.

ICEC'08 Workshop on Product Data Management
http://ki.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pdm08.html
Located at the International Conference on Electronic Commerce
http://www.icec08.org/
August 19th 2008, Innsbruck, Austria
B2B Electronic business relies on the seamless exchange of information
between the enterprises involved. This workshop focuses on the specific case
of product data involved in B2B electronic business. Supporting the exchange
is a major challenge. Especially in technical domains where the exchange of
product information is necessary for engineering processes, product
descriptions are often very complex and the business partners have very
specific requirements posing special challenges with respect to data
modelling, -integration and validation. Further, as a result of shorter
innovation cycles and a focus on customized solutions there is an increasing
need for providing advanced customization and configuration services to
potential customers.
Traditionally, product data mostly resides in intra-organizational systems,
especially ERP, product data management (PDM), and, more recently, product
life-cycle management (PLM) systems. These Systems are typically used for
internal data management. Using them as a basis for publishing and
exchanging product data between enterprises and providing advanced services
such as matchmaking, customization and configuration of complex products
from components is a major challenge. As successful solutions show, an
integration of internal data management and e-business solutions provides
major benefits as it reduces the manual effort needed to feed data into the
e-business applications. Further, integrated solutions ensure consistency
and up-to-dateness of the product catalogues.
Solutions to successful product data management have to include technical as
well as organizational aspects. On the technical side, a number of product
classification such as eClass and UNSPSC and product dictionaries (sometimes
called product ontologies or reference libraries) have been developed, often
based on standards like ISO 13584 and ISO 15926. In addition, STEP standards
have been developed for the exchange of product models and geometry
information. For all these representations of product data, different kind
of exchange format exists, ranging from simple table structures (csv files)
to XML structures like BMEcat or OntoML to STEP physical files. In parallel,
new developments in the area of semantic technologies promise to facilitate
advanced integration, matchmaking and configuration functionalities. Product
Ontologies that can be derived from existing standards on the one hand and
Rules and Constraint-based systems on the other hand are the basis for
promising approaches.
Aim of the Workshop
The workshop aims at identifying challenges and open problems related to the
use of internal product data for advanced e-business solutions as well as
examples of promising approaches and successful solutions to the problem. In
particular, we want to discuss the role of existing standards on the one
hand and the use of semantic technologies such as ontologies and rule
languages as a basis for advanced ecommerce services related to complex
products on the other hand. An important question in this context is on the
complementarity of existing standards and semantic technologies.
Topics of Interest
We invite research papers as well as statements of interest and experience
reports on the following topics:
* Product Lifecycle Management and Electronic Business
* Product Classifications and Product Data Exchange Standards
* Semantic Modelling of Products and Product Classes
* Integration and Conversion of Product Data
* Matchmaking for Complex Product Descriptions
* Product Configuration and Customization
The workshop aims at bridging between research and practical problems in
the area of product data management, we therefore especially invite
contributions from industry.

Distributed PD: Challenges and Opportunities
Special Issue for Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems
www.distributedpd.com
*************************************************************
Call for Papers
Theme:
This Special Issue of the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems
invites submissions addressing the challenges and opportunities of
conducting Participatory Design (PD) in distributed projects, here
referred to as Distributed PD.
Originally, PD was developed with a focus on co-located design
activities, where the users and designers meet face-to-face in order to
establish some common ground. As such, PD becomes challenging in
projects that involve a large number of users and stakeholders, who may
be distributed across space, time and organizational structures.
Some research in the field of Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)
has considered how to support such distributed projects. Although little
research in the CSCW community has explicitly focused on PD, the two
communities could benefit from each other.
For example, researchers in the area of CSCW have studied how to
effectively facilitate communication and knowledge sharing. However, the
focus here lies on the software for collaborative work rather than
supporting participatory design approaches across spatial, temporal and
organizational distances. Moreover, PD does not necessarily argue for,
or include, computers in order to support group work during design. In
addition to this, the area of distributed software development (DSD)
provides research on communication and coordination in (globally)
distributed software development. Yet, such research lacks consideration
of participation between stakeholders. Today, the number of complex
web-based information systems is increasing, which brings new
challenges. For example, a possible breakdown of division of labor
between new types of distributed specialists entering the design process.
PD is undeniably challenged by distributed project settings, although PD
has already been applied in distributed projects (cf. presented work at
the workshops on DPD at NordiCHI 2006 and at CHI 2008). This Special
Issue recognizes and promotes the relevance of PD in distributed project
settings. The objective of the Special Issue is to unify the successes
and failures of processes, methods and tools used to facilitate PD in
distributed settings.
More information and a complete CfP can be found at www.distributedpd.com.
