EASS 2007 – Call for Papers
Fourth International Workshop on Engineering Autonomic Software Systems
Toronto, Canada, 22nd October 2007
To be held in conjunction with CASCON 2007: The 17th Annual
International Conference on Computer Science and Software Engineering
http://WatManager.UWaterloo.Ca/EASS2007
Understanding software engineering issues for autonomic computing
systems is critical for the software and information technology sectors,
which are continually challenged to reduce the complexity of their
systems. An autonomic system knows itself as well as its boundaries and
its environment, configures and reconfigures itself, continually
optimizes itself, recovers or heals from malfunction, protects itself,
and functions in a heterogeneous world, while keeping its complexity
hidden from the user.
While there are several workshops that deal with autonomic computing
systems, there are few workshops that focus on the whole life cycle;
i.e., how do we design, build, deploy, operate and evolve such software
systems so that they can meet given, and evolving, requirements for
particular classes of users and/or applications. Most existing systems
cannot be re-designed and re-developed from scratch to incorporate
autonomic capabilities. Rather self-management capabilities have to be
added gradually and incrementally, one aspect at a time. With the
proliferation of autonomic applications, users will impose ever more
demands with respect to functional and non-functional requirements for
autonomicity.
The goal of this workshop is to exchange opinions, advance ideas, and
discuss preliminary results among researchers and practitioners who
investigate concepts, methodologies, and tools to design and evolve
autonomic software.
EASS invites submissions on following topics (but not limited to):
Requirements, Design, Architecture, Implementation and Evolution of
Autonomic Systems
Engineering Self-Configuration, Self-Optimization and Self-Healing.
Methods, Methodologies and technologies for achieving Self-Management
Applications and Case Studies

2007 International Workshop on Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Data
Mining
http://spatial.nvc.cs.vt.edu/sstdm07
Call for Papers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 28, 2007
Omaha, NE, USA
In cooperation with IEEE ICDM 2007
Widespread use of sensor networks and location aware devices has resulted in
large amounts of spatial and spatio-temporal datasets in a variety of
domains. The number and size of these datasets continues to increase
rapidly, making their manual processing impossible. It is therefore,
imperative that efficient and effective techniques are developed to extract
useful information from these datasets. Traditional data mining techniques
are ineffective in the spatial domain since they don't incorporate the
special features of the spatial domain, e.g. spatial autocorrelation. The
goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers, developers and
practitioners in the field of spatial and spatio-temporal data mining
together in order to identify current research foci, vital areas of need,
and critical points of synergy. Selected papers will appear in the
GeoInformatica journal as a special issue.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
o Theoretical foundations of spatial and spatio-temporal data mining
o Novel techniques for spatial and spatio-temporal data mining

Workshop on Web Services and Geographic Information Systems
To be held in conjunction with
The 2nd IEEE International Conference on Digital Information Management (ICDIM’2007)
October 29-31, 2007 - Lyon, FRANCE - http://www.icdim.org
Description. The wide spread of Internet technologies is having an important impact on the way businesses deal with their partners and customers. To remain competitive, traditional businesses are under pressure to take advantage of the information revolution the Internet and the Web have brought about.
The rapidly expanding Web services are one of the technologies that could help businesses be more Web-oriented. A Web service is an operation typically addressed via a URL, declaratively described using widely accepted standards, and accessed via platform-independent XML-based messages. The development of industry standards, products, and tools for supporting Web service system development is proceeding at a very rapid rate. Standards exist for service discovery (UDDI), description (WSDL), coordination (BPML, BPEL4WS, WSCI), and communication (SOAP). In parallel with the development of these general-purpose Web services, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has successfully executed efforts for GIS interoperability. For example, the OGC Web Services (OWS) initiative has undergone multiple phases including the Web Map Server (WMS), Web Feature Server (WFS), Web Coverage Server (WCS), and OGC Web Service Architecture. For the GIS community, Web services are a suitable technology for providing and sharing the huge amount of data currently available thanks to satellites, sensors, etc. These services enable users to perform geo-processing tasks, such as spatial searches, mapping, and geo-coding.
Despite all the efforts that are put into Web services research and development, many businesses, particularly GIS-oriented, are still struggling with how to put their core business competences on the Internet as a collection of Web services. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the recent and significant developments in the areas of Web Services and GISs and to provide a forum for articles that bring the challenges in the their combination, and the opportunity for all involved to debate new issues and directions for research and development work in the future. Pssible topics include but are not limited to:
* Geographic Web services
* Web services standards for GISs
* Geographical search engines and web services
* Development environment for GIS Web services
* Frameworks for building geographic Web services
* GIS Web service modelling, design, and architecture
* Web map services
* Geographic Web services personalization
* Context Management for GIS Web services.
* Software Agent Architecture for GIS Web services.

---------------------------------------------------------
SOFSEM (SOFtware SEMinar) is an annual international
conference devoted to the theory and practice of
Computer Science. Its aim is to get together professionals
from academia and industry working in various areas of
Computer Science. Proceedings containing the invited and
contributed papers are planned to be published by
the Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS) series.
The program consists of
* a number of Invited Talks,
given by prominent researchers,
* Contributed Talks selected by
the Program Committee from submitted papers,
* Working Sessions discussing work-in-progress,
* and the Student Research Forum.
SOFSEM is organized in parallel tracks giving
a unique opportunity to obtain quickly
a representative overview of the areas that are
selected as the topics of the year. According to
the conference tradition, one of the tracks is
always devoted to Foundations of Computer Science.
SOFSEM provides an ideal framework for discussions
and meetings, establishing personal contacts. In order
to help people socialize and exchange new ideas,
SOFSEM is organized as a single-building-conference.
That is, accommodation for all participants,
full-board meals, together with all lecture rooms
will be in Atrium Hotel, Novy Smokovec, High Tatras,
Slovakia. SOFSEM is especially suited for
young computer scientists.
