DEADLINE: 10 April 2007
Hotel Sofitel, San Francisco Bay
6-8 September 2007
Organized by
Knowledge Systems Institute
Digital Arts and Sciences Lab, UF
Visual Computing Lab, UT-Dallas
SCOPE AND TOPICS
================
Visual computing involves theory, methods and
application of enhancing the visual space,
along with human interaction, within the field
of computing. One may visualize unstructured
data, simple information structures, and more
complicated structures such as automata,
programs, and databases. Moreover, visual
computing is a field that involves
representation of artifacts and their
behaviors or executions. Thus, it is possible
to visualize heaps, their execution or entire
programs in which the heap plays an
algorithmic role. The ways in which the human
interacts with the heap through pure
visualization, touch, or sound becomes a
relevant issue. The concept of transformation
is integral to visual computing, where it is
often convenient to transform one type of
object into another sometimes for a specific
group or individual.
Aspects of visual computing are multi-facetted
in goals that are to be achieved during
information or language design. The following
represents a short list of qualities that are
of importance to the study within visual
computing: efficiency, aesthetics, pleasure,
emotion, engagement, immersion, collaboration,
and culture. Aspects of art, engineering, and
science play key roles where certain
practitioners focus on design and engineering
of visual interactions whereas others analyze
and study these interactions (i.e., science).
The International Workshop on Visual Languages
and Computing will explore these issues, and
will be held in conjunction with the 2007
International Conference of Distributed
Multimedia Systems
(http://www.ksi.edu/seke/dms07.html) to be
held in San Francisco Bay Area, USA.
6-8 September 2007. Papers on all aspects and
approaches to visual languages and computing
are solicited, including interactive visual
computing, computer-empowered visual computing,
human-empowered visual computing,
transformation algorithms for visual computing,
and visual languages for visual computing. The
following topics are of special interest:
o Visual Languages

Special Issue on
Grid Economics and Business Models
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
With Featured Articles on:
- "Grid Economics" by Ramayya Krishnan (CMU, USA)
- "Business Models for Grids and Utility Computing" by Rajkumar Buyya
(University of Melbourne, Australia)
- "Service Science" by Jim Spohrer (IBM Almaden, USA)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Journal of Grid Computing will publish a special issue on Grid Economics
and Business Models, which has also been a theme of some very active
workshops on several IEEE conferences lately.
In Grid Computing systems heterogeneous networked resources are utilized.
Computational resources, storage, memory and bandwidth are complemented with
content-oriented input from databases and web services. Hence such systems
may operate in predefined and centrally organized ways, or coordination may
be conducted in a self-organized, decentral manner.
Although there are plenty of idle computing resources available on the
internet, only a small percentage of these are actually utilized. One of the
reasons for this could be a lack of reliability, availability, quality of
service and security.
Substantial work has been done on protocols, middleware, and services for
security, discovery, sharing, management etc., of computing, storage, data
and other resources within dynamic, distributed computing systems. Little
attention has been dedicated to the economically efficient allocation of
such resources, the embedding of common pricing and business schemes with
content provision, as well as the generation of business models based on
Grid utilization.
Lately, several initiatives have started in order to generate substantial
approaches in this area. The topic has emerged to become a key research
topic in the domain of applying Grid technology in commercial applications
such as service oriented architectures (SOA) and web services. Such
approaches are fostering a wider commercial adoption of existing
research-grade Grid computing systems in the services domain and enable
completely novel business models in future.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to:
- Grid Economics
o Engineering of Grid markets and Grid architectures
o Economic resource allocation in Grid scenarios
o Resource allocation in Grid scenarios
o Environment descriptions and economic metrics for Grids
o Simulation of Grid markets
o Economics of Grid standardization
o Grid systems¹ economy, its operation and deployment
- Business Models for Grids and Utility Computing
o Automated negotiation for Grid resource allocation
o Pricing, charging and accounting issues of Grid resources
o Suggestion for commercialization strategies for Grid approaches
o Business application development for Grid services
o Economic and business mechanisms in national computational Grid
systems
o Agent-based simulation of Grid environments and markets
- Service Science
o Engineering of eOrganizations
o Computational and content services in Web 2.0
o Multi-tier offers: Computing and web services
o Pricing and billing in service oriented architectures (SOA)
o Evaluation of dynamic pricing and trading mechanisms for Grid and
content resources
o Generation of knowledge in complex decision situations in Grid
allocation

3rd VLDB Workshop on Data Management in Grids
---------------------------------------------
http://www.irit.fr/~Jean-Marc.Pierson/DMG_VLDB07/
Collocated with VLDB 2007 : http://www.vldb.org
Vienna, Austria, 24-25 September 2007
Topics of Interest
------------------
This workshop is the third workshop organized at VLDB on the topic
of Data Management in Grids. After the success of the first two
editions for the one day workshop in 2005 and 2006, we decided to
propose a third edition in Vienna, 2007.
Since the mid nineties and the emergence of Grids, many research
activities have been initiated in relation to data management in
these dynamic, heterogeneous and cross-organisational environments.
The database community can offer her unique expertise in the
management of very large, widely distributed databases. Conversely,
Grids offer a novel and very exciting field of research for
database scientists both in terms of application domains and
fundamental research.
This workshop is intended to bring together these two communities,
and thus to offer a unique workspace for researchers to discuss and
exchange ideas about the emerging challenges and opportunities
offered by Data Grids. The first workshops raised interesting
questions on the data management, and its particularities in a Grid.
Relevant topics for the workshop include all aspects related to the
management of data in a Grid (non-exhaustive list) :
Data Access
Data Interoperability
Semantic Grids
Mediation / Negotiation
Security: access control, policy, privacy
Data Placement: replication, migration
Data Streams
Metadata Management
Indexing
Query processing
Caching
Data Warehouses
Unique identification of data entities
Data Definition/Model Management
Data De-identification
Data scheduler and data-aware scheduling
Information sharing
Information dissemination
Applications dealing with large databases
Data management in Pervasive Grids
Submission

Visa Issues
To come to Russia, all foreign participants will need an entering visa. As a host institution SPIIRAS will
handle this issue through a formal invitation letter to every participant.
To issue such a letter, we shall need the following details to include in the above letter for every individual:
first name, middle name, surname, date of birth, citizenship, passport No., expiration date
(as appear in a valid passport) and the city where the visa is applied in.
In addition, each individual has to fax copy of the first page of his/her passport at +7(812)328-06-85
containing personal data and dates of the passport number and expiry date.
Note that about one month is required only to arrange formal invitation in St. Petersburg. Time for invitation
mailing to the addressee and for getting visa at local consulate has to be added to calculate the deadline to be
met for receiving request for invitation letter by organizers.

[[[[ LAST CALL FOR PAPERS ]]]]
ECAL 2007 Workshop on Machine Epigenesis
Lisbon, Portugal
September 10, 2007
[[Motivation]]
Creating a machine that exhibits life-like behavior has been the very
core motivation of Artificial Life since its onset. Self-replication
has remained the prime study since von Neumann, however, biological
systems show a far wider range of generative hehavior, including
differentiation and morphogenesis of multicellular structures from a
single zygote, and adaptive de-differentiation and regeneration of
parts in case of system failure. These characters remain largely
missing in manmade, engineered systems, as well indicated by the late
John Maynard-Smith in his writing:
"One reason why we find it so hard to understand the development of
form may be that we do not make machines that develop: often we
understand biological phenomena only when we have invented machines
with similar properties... [and] we do not make 'embryo' machines ..."
- John Maynard-Smith, The Problems of Biology (1986)
[[Workshop]]
The Workshop on Machine Epigenesis aims to address this issue -- the
means, methods and models of machine epigenesis. It is expected to
establish a field of research on any constructional and epigenetic
processes of machines and to initiate a collective effort of
formalization of models of such epigenetic machines. Here a "machine"
is broadly construed to include abstract automata, electro-mechanical
devices, molecular structures, and any other physical or informational
instantiation. Topics to be covered in the workshop include (but are
not limited to):
- Formal theories and abstract models of machine epigenesis
- Theories of universal and non-universal constructors
- Physical implementation of epigenetic machines
- Self-replicating and self-repairing machines
- Self-organization in modular and swarm robots
- Biological analogs relevant to the realization of machine epigenesis
- Philosophical and ethical issues in creating epigenetic machines
- Extending the mechanist model of living systems - philosophy
[[Format]]
The workshop will be organized to provide an open opportunity for
participation by any person engaged in relevant research, or who may
have relevant opinion, all presented within the framework of an open
forum discussion. During the discussion each submitted paper will be
briefly presented in an informal setting (typically in 5~10 minutes)
and then examined and debated. While the debate will take place
between those researchers who submit papers, audience participation
will be facilitated, primarily through comments and questions.
[[paper Submission]]
Readers are invited to submit a paper on original research or
discussion on any aspect of machine epigenesis. Papers should be
formatted following the guidelines for the ECAL 2007 proceedings
(http://www.ecal2007.org/submissions.htm). Papers should not exceed
10 pages in length and must be made in PDF format.
Papers should be submitted electronically by email addressed to both
the program chairs. Submitted papers will be reviewed and judged by
the Programme Committee members based on their relevance to the
workshop and conference, originality, clarity of the presentation, and
overall quality.
[[Important Dates]]
Paper submission deadline: April 9, 2007
Notification of acceptance: May 14, 2007
Camera-ready submissions: May 31, 2007
[[Proceedings]]
Accepted papers will be included in the Workshop Proceedings CD-ROM
that will be distributed to all ECAL 2007 attendees. It is also
expected that workshop participants shall have the opportunity to
publish a paper in a special issue of the International Journal of
Unconventional Computing. Confirmation from the journal is pending.

*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
4th High-End Visualization Workshop
University Center Obergurgl, Tyrol, Austria
17.06. - 22.06.2007
http://www.vizworkshop.at/
Open issues in visualization with special concentration on applications
in astrophysics, numerical relativity, computational fluid dynamics and
high-performance computing.
This year's feature:
Visualization of Non-Trivial Data Structures
With the advancement of numerical simulations beyond uniform grids,
visualization methods are also challenged to cope with the more complex
data structures. We intend to discuss which data structures are out there
(e.g., amr, multiblock, multipatches), what visualization methods already
exist, and what the highest demands and needs for yet unsolved issues are.
Focus is intended to be on topological issues of complex data sets, leading
to possible overlap among feature extraction, numerical algorithms and
access methods to topologically non-trivial data itself.
This workshop is inter-disciplinary by nature, and as every year we also
encourage contributions that are outside the focus topic.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
* Visualization concepts for non-trivial spacetimes
* Generic data structures for visualization purposes
* Applicability of GPU's, emerging hardware like cell processors
or physics cards
* Application areas, in particular interdisciplinary work with
domain experts
* Numerical models on adaptive meshes or multiblocks and resulting
specific demands for visualization
* Existing visualization frameworks (e.g., VTK, Amira, Chombovis) and
their support for such data
* Extending commonly used visualization techniques such as isosurfaces
and raycasting to cover complex data structures
* Demands and constraints on parallel rendering strategies and grid-based
environments from non-regular domain decomposition, including (but not
limited to) workflow managements, brokering, performance-modeling etc.
* Utilizing modern rendering, display and interaction device, e.g.
high-resolution, high-dynamic range, multitiled screens, for examining
complex data structures
* Grid technologies and parallelization techniques

Workshop Theme
==============
As part of their e-business activities, enterprises create, share,
recombine, and process an ever increasing amount of data and documents
that range from simple transactional data to complex business process
definitions. In many respective processes, multiple spheres overlap,
e.g. (1) inter- with intra-organizational data sources in collaborative
processes, (2) master data with transactional data, (3) regular data
with behavioral aspects of processes, or (4) facts with normative
assertions. Since business entities are members of multiple value
chains, same as data sources are often used in multiple contexts and
processes, there are often conflicting requirements on the
representation of such data.
All this in combination makes e-business data engineering a very
challenging task, already at the level of a single company but even more
in value chains. Also, respective modeling choices may have
long-lasting and far reaching impact, and affect (1) operational
efficiency, (2) business process agility, (3) the range of analytical
tasks for decision support, and (4) strategic options. Eventually, those
choices determine the current and future degree of automation in content
and process integration.
While e-business standards in general help, standardization alone does
not solve the problem. This is because yielding a consensual
representation takes time, consumes resources, and constrains an
entity’s ability to capture individual details. Moreover,
the cost of implementing and enforcing the standards
is sometimes prohibitive for small businesses. Proprietary
representations, on the other hand, hamper interoperability, and
complicate B2B integration. In service-oriented architectures (SOAs),
this complexity is further increased by the behavioral dimension of
e-business interactions, e.g. services choreography and orchestration.
This workshop aims at providing a venue for discussion and the exchange
of ideas on data and knowledge engineering issues in the dynamic
environment of e-business, enterprise computing, and business services
and transformation.

Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2007,
26-29 August 2007, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, http://www.iccsa.org/
High-performance computing often results in very large data sets,
which are best interpreted using visualization. Very large data sets
arise naturally in many application areas including computer-aided
design, virtual-reality and geographic information systems.
Researchers working on the visualization of large data sets face
problems not only in graphics and computational geometry, but also
those arising from the general area of high performance computing such
as load balancing, communication overhead and fault tolerance. This
workshop attempts to bring together theoreticians and practitioners
working in the areas of high-performance parallel, distributed and
grid computing as well as those working in the areas of
high-performance computer graphics and information visualization.
Prospective authors are invited to submit original papers describing
theoretical and/or experimental research. Papers may be either:
o Full papers of 10 to 14 pages - Accepted contributions will be
published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS) volumes.
o Short papers of 6 to 9 pages - Accepted contributions will be
published in the IEEE Computer Society proceedings.

Roles’07 CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd Workshop on Roles and Relationships in Object Oriented Programming, Multiagent Systems, and Ontologies
Workshop co-located with ECOOP 2007
Berlin, July 30 and 31, 2007
Roles are a truly ubiquitous notion: like classes, objects, and relationships, they pervade the vocabulary of all sciences that deal with the nature of things and how these things relate to each other. In fact, it seems that roles are so fundamental a notion that they must be granted the status of an ontological primitive.
The definition of roles depends on the definition of relationships. With the advent of Object Technology, however, relationships have moved out of the focus of attention, giving way to the more restricted concept of attributes or, more technically, references to other objects. A reference is tied to the object holding it and as such is asymmetric—at most the target of the reference can be associated with a role. This is counter to the intuition that every role should have at least one counter-role, namely the one it interacts with. It seems that the natural role of roles in object-oriented designs can only be restored by installing relationships (collaborations, teams, etc.) as first-class programming concepts.
By contrast, the relational nature of roles is already acknowledged in the area of Multiagent Systems, since roles are related to the interaction among agents and to communication protocols. However, in this area there is no convergence on a single definition of roles yet, and different points of view, such as agent software engineering, specification languages, agent communication, or agent programming languages, make different use of roles.
Like its predecessor “Roles, an interdisciplinary perspective” (Roles’05) held at the AAAI 2005 Fall Symposium (http://www.aaai.org/Press/Reports/Symposia/Fall/fs-05-08.php), this workshop aims at gathering researchers from different disciplines to foster interchange of knowledge and ideas concerning roles and relationships, and in particular to converge on ontologically founded proposals which can be applied to programming and agent languages.
We invite all researches who have something to contribute to participate, by submitting an original paper of up to 8 pages and/or a position statement of max 2 pages (both Springer LNCS style). Every submission should either propose a new definition of ‘role’ or make a clear statement regarding the definition of ‘role’ used.
The first day of the workshop will be devoted to presentations, the second one to discussions leading to a “Role Manifesto”. Ideally, if not an authoritative definition of the role concept, at least a provisional one eliciting the features common to most approaches should emerge from this workshop; the process will be continued after the workshop using a cooperative website.
Research and mature ideas that focus on the following topics are particularly welcome:
· Roles as first-class constructs in programming, modelling, ontologies, and multiagent systems
· Relationships as first-class programming constructs
· Applications that would profit from roles and relationships
· Patterns dealing with the realization of relationships and roles
· Roles in foundational ontologies and applicative ontologies
· Roles in models (e.g. UML) and domain-specific languages
· Roles in multiagent systems design, specification and programming
· Experience reports with role-oriented approaches
· Existing and new programming constructs related to roles
· Literature surveys on roles
· Reports on roles from other disciplines, like sociology, organizational theory, linguistics, etc.
Submissions should be uploaded at http://roles07.di.unito.it/. For more information about formatting the paper please consult the Springer LNCS web site at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html
Questions should be sent to Guido Boella (guido [at] di.unito.it).
The papers will be reviewed by at least 2 members of the program committee composed of experts in the different areas covered by the workshop.
Papers will be published in the workshop proceedings. As in the previous edition of this workshop, high quality of submission provided, there may be a special issue of some renowned journal containing extended versions of the best workshop papers.

Call for Papers
===============
I-SEMANTICS 2007
3rd International Semantic Technology Conference
co-located with I-KNOW 2007 and I-MEDIA 2007
5th - 7th September 2007, Graz, Austria
http://www.i-semantics.tugraz.at/
Important Dates
---------------
Deadline for paper submission: April 02, 2007
Notification of acceptance/rejection: Mai 21, 2007
Deadline for final paper submission: June 25, 2007
Conference: September 05 - 07, 2007
Scope
-----
I-SEMANTICS 2007 is the third conference in the SEMANTICS series (previous
events took place in Vienna in 2005 and 2006) and offers a forum of exchange
for innovative businesses and European research institutions and
companies that
concentrate on semantic technologies. SEMANTICS is the first major
conference
series bringing together both researchers and developers in the areas of
Social
Software and the Semantic Web in order to present and develop innovative
ideas
that help realising the “Social Semantic Web”.
Topics
------
Social Software systems have lead to an explosion of the content
available on
the Web. Content is nowadays to large extents produced by non-professionals,
shared and made available free of charge, and constantly improved by
collaborative processes. A question that is yet unsolved is how to find the
relevant information in increasingly huge and complex amounts of content, a
problem where technologies developed on the Semantic Web can help.
Likewise, it
would be beneficial to harness social content production not only for
more-or-less traditional content but also for the creation and
improvement of
machine-understandable meta-data.
The special focus of I-SEMANTICS 2007 is „Social Semantic Web & Semantic
Social
Software – Convergence of Semantic Web, Web 2.0 & Social Software”. As a
conference aiming to bring together science and industry, I-SEMANTICS
encourages
both, scientific (research/application) and industrial contributions. The
following table summarises the topics we are interested in:
Technologies & Methodologies Applications
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Semantic Social Software Semantic Web Applications
- Semantic Wikis and Weblogs - Existing Tools and Applications
- Semantic Desktop - Application Domains
- Social Tagging & Folksonomies
Knowledge Modelling Experiences, Studies and Metrices
- Ontology Engineering - Case Studies of Semantic Systems Usage
- Terminology Management - Business Use of Semantic Systems
- Visualisation of Semantic Models - Technology Assessment
Knowledge Communication
- Trust and Proof on the Semantic
Web
- Interoperability and Integration
- Inter- and Transcultural Aspects
in (Semantic) Web Communication
Special Tracks
--------------
In addition to the main programme, I-SEMANTICS will host two separately
organised special tracks.
„Social Semantic Desktop“ Special Track: In the special track on "Social
Semantic Desktop", we ask how Semantic Web technology will change the way we
work and collaborate using desktop computers. Data on the desktop can be
annotated or represented using ontologies, applications on the desktop
need to
be integrated the same way as known from enterprise application
integration or
semantic web services. Semantic collaboration has always been possible
between
humans, but when collaborators are separated in space and time, the Semantic
Desktop can assist understanding the messages passed or allow new forms of
communication. Previous workshops on the ISWC conference have shown the
potential of this field, and the synergies already found imply that this
is a
fruitful field to explore.
„Terminology“ Special Track: This special track will deepen and
demonstrate the
theoretical input from the programme section “Knowledge Modelling:
Terminology
Management” in practice. We show the role and function of terminology
(in its
broader meaning) and terminology management within the Social Semantic
Web and
discuss questions, such as: How does terminology management work in
practice?
What are the challenges and standards of a tailored, successful project
management? How to calculate the costs of multilingual solutions and
localization? How to organize inter- and transcultural communication? How to
“translate” the specialized language and terminology of the Semantic Web
Industries to users, customers, decision makers and other target groups
of the
Social Semantic Web?
Submission Information
----------------------
Submissions must be original and must not have been submitted for
publication
elsewhere. Articles should follow the JUCS guidelines for formatting
(http://www.jucs.org/ujs/jucs/info/submissions/style_guide.html) and must be
submitted via the online submission system available at the conference
website
as PDF documents (other formats will not be accepted). For the camera-ready
version, we will also need the source files (Latex, OpenOffice, Word).
*Research/Application Papers*
Research/Application papers report on novel research and/or applications
relevant to the topics of the conference. The number of pages of
research papers
should be between 8 and 15 pages including references and an optional
appendix.
*Industry Papers*
The conference will include an industrial track for presentations on
innovative
commercial software related with the topics of the conference, which include
novel applications, experiences in applying recent research advances to
practical scenarios and innovations. For the industrial track, we require an

CALL FOR PAPERS
The complex-valued neural networks (CVNNs) is a quickly growing area
that attracts more and more researchers.
There were several CVNN Special Sessions organized during last years,
for example, at ICONIP 2002, Singapore, ICANN/ICONIP 2003, Istanbul,
ICONIP 2004, Calcutta, IJCNN 2006, Vancouver, "Fuzzy Days 2006",
Dortmund. Everywhere these sessions had large audience, many interesting
presentations and very productive discussions.
There are several new directions in CVNNs development: from formal
generalization of the commonly used algorithms to the complex-valued
case that are mathematically beautiful to the use of original
complex-valued activation functions that can increase significantly the
neuron and network functionality. There are also many interesting
applications of CVNNs in pattern recognition and classification, image
processing, time series prediction, bioinformatics, robotics, etc.
One of the most important characteristics of the CVNNs is the proper
treatment of amplitude and phase information, e.g., the treatment of
wave-related rotation-related phenomena such as electromagnetism, light
waves, quantum waves and oscillatory phenomena. Very interesting among
other CVNNs are those networks that are based on neurons with the
phase-dependent activation functions. This specific phenomenon makes it
possible to increase the single neuron's functionality and to design
more flexible and more effective networks. It is also very interesting
to study how these phenomena can be used in modeling of the biological
neural networks.
ICANN-2007 in Porto will be a very attractive forum, where it will be
possible to organize a systematic exchange of ideas in the area, to
present the recent research results and to discuss the future trends. We
hope that the proposed session will attract not only the potential
speakers, but many researches who can join the CVNNs community.
Papers that are, or might be, related to all aspects of the CVNNs are
kindly welcomed. We welcome contributions, where a fundamental theory is
developed, as well as contributions, where different applied problems
are considered. We also welcome potential contributions form other areas
that are on the boarders of the proposed scope. Topics include, but are
not limited to:
* Theoretical Aspects of CVNNs and Complex-Valued Activation
Functions
* Complex-Valued Associative Memories
* Dynamics of Complex-Valued Neurons
* Learning Algorithms for CVCNNs
* Chaos in Complex Domain
* Feedforward CVCNNs
* Pattern Recognition, Classification and Time Series Prediction
using CVCNNs
* Spatiotemporal CVNNs Processing
* Frequency Domain CVNNs Processing
* Phase-Sensitive Signal Processing
* Applications of CVNNs in Image Processing, Speech Processing
and Bioinformatics
* Quantum Computation and Quantum Neural Networks
* CVNNs in Robotics
* Quaternion and Clifford Networks
Proceedings of ICANN will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in

CALL FOR PAPERS
---------------
E-Business has emerged as an important computing paradigm in digital
societies. The paradigm imposes many interesting challenges to both
the research community and the industry. These challenges range from
the reliable integration of e-services to trustworthy transactions of
e-retailing. Addressing these challenges requires the cross
fertilization of multiple disciplines, including databases, software
engineering, networking, grid computing, security, machine
intelligence and information systems. Plentiful research issues need
to be investigated before the proliferation of e-business systems.
So, a series of related conferences organised by the IEEE Technical
Committee on E-Commerce have taken place since 1998. The 2007 IEEE
International Conference on e-Business Engineering (ICEBE) is the
latest of a successful series. It provides a high-quality forum for
researchers, practitioners and executives from different disciplines
to exchange their latest findings and experiences. The conference
scope spans the areas of middleware, databases, MIS, Web, and
multimedia. The main themes of this year's conference will focus on:
* E-Commerce Platforms, Models and Applications
* Workflows and Transactions in E-Business
* Management and Engineering of IT-Enabled Services
* Requirement Analysis and Modeling of E-Business Systems
* Dependability and Performance of E-Business Systems
* Business Performance Management
* Data and Knowledge Engineering for E-Business
* Mobile and Pervasive Commerce
* Security, Privacy in E-Commerce
* Open Source Technologies in E-Commerce/Business/Services
* Industrial Track
The conference will take place on 24-26 October, 2007 at the
University of Hong Kong, China. In addition to paper presentations
from the delegates, the program includes keynote speeches, panel
discussions, poster sessions, and two technical Symposiums. A
demonstration session will be held for the delegates to share their
research results. The conference will also schedule a job fair to
provide a chance for the students and delegates to pursue their
careers and for the companies to discover their future employees. A
couple of co-located symposiums are under plan. These symposiums aim
to stimulate discussions over the issues related to service oriented
architecture and e-Business. Extended versions of selected best
papers will be recommended for possible inclusion in The Computer
Journal published by the British Computer Society, and
Service-Oriented Computing and Applications published by Springer.

CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTERS
BOOK TITLE:
Process Algebra for Parallel and Distributed Processing
The book will be published in the Computational Science Series by
Chapman and Hall/CRC Press in 2008
INTRODUCTION:
Programming today’s multi-core processor architectures, clusters and
grids is hard. Compiler research -- despite years of effort – has still
not produced implicit instruction parallelism detection that goes much
beyond that of basic loop-parallelism. In addition, parallel programming
in the past two decades has seen only measured improvements in parallel
algorithms, languages with parallel expressivity, framework and
distributed validation support. As compilers have failed to deliver on
their original promises, the objective of easing fine-grained parallel
application programmability remains.
As a consequence, new and additional paradigms are being looked at to
solve what amounts to an emerging “parallel software development
crisis”. The approach that looks most promising, is that of
specification-based software development. It has its origins 3 decades
ago, has been in a holding state for many years, and only re-emerged to
a wider audience with the advent of the Object Management Group’s Model
Driven Architecture (MDA). Yet, specification-based software
development can only deliver correct, parallel and distributed programs
if the specification is precise, sufficiently expressive and complete.
Here, algebraic languages and process algebras are the paradigm that
could catalyze solutions to many problems hampering efficient multi-core
processor, cluster and grid programmability problems. They are moving
into a wide realm, as evidenced by the recent release of an interpreter
for the algebraic Sun Fortess Language.
The book is targeted to bring together the state-of-the-art in going
towards the application of algebraic languages and process algebras to
parallel-and distributed processing. It will be written to the problem
statement of programming today’s multi-core processor architectures,
clusters and grids.
RECOMMENDED TOPICS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
