ASP08 will run on 2 April, 2008 as part of the 15th IEEE International Conference on the Engineering of Computer-based Systems (ECBS) from 31 March
to 2 April, 2008. This one-day workshop, sponsored by BT, will provide a forum for both practitioners and researchers in agile methods to present and
discuss their latest innovations, ideas, methods and experience. The expectation is a mix of research from those influencing the development of
agile methods and lessons learned from those at the coalface, implementing agile methods and processes in practice. As well as presentations, there
will be a keynote address and the opportunity for debate on relevant issues.
Agile Processes are about delivering early and frequent value to customers and being able to adapt to the changing environment in which software
frequently operates. Being agile involves a much greater emphasis on customer collaboration, the human aspects of software development and on the
main concern of producing working software. The area is relatively young but there is already evidence around to suggest that agile methods increase
productivity and quality of software. There are also opportunities to develop further the methods, tools and techniques applicable to agile
methods and to learn form the experience of early adopters. This workshop invites previously unpublished papers from researchers and practitioners in
areas related to achieving agility in the software process. The workshop will provide a forum for researchers, managers, developers and educators to
discuss the latest innovations and opportunities in agile software development. Research and industrial research and development papers are
both welcome. Sample areas of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Agile project management
* Decision support for agile methods
* Using Agile for Embedded software development
* Economics of agile software development including contract management
* Empirical studies of agile methods
* Evolution of Software using agile methods
* Global Software Development with Agile
* Innovation in current agile practices such as pair programming, refactoring, test driven development etc and proposed new practices
* Methods and tools for agile software development and their effectiveness
* Open Source Software in Agile Methods
* Quality standards in Agile Methods
* Process Assessments for Agile Methods

---------------
Adaptability is a generic property of a system that consists in the
systems capability to self-adjust its behavior according to its input,
load or users in order to meet certain performance criteria. Adaptability
has been described as a characteristic of autonomous behavior and is often
related to possessing learning capabilities through analysis of past
behaviors and interactions. Adaptability has been intensely studied by
various areas of engineering including artificial intelligence, control
systems and human orientated systems. Adaptability has been set as an
important requirement for systems devised to work in new generation global
networked and distributed environments like wireless networks, P2P
networks, Web systems, multi-agent systems, grids, etc. Such systems are
expected to pose new challenges for the development and application of
adaptation techniques, due to their special characteristics including:
interconnectivity, interactivity, distribution, heterogeneity and
fault-tolerance.
This special session welcomes submissions covering all aspects of
adaptability in networked systems and media, including (but not limited
to):
- Self-configuring and self-structuring systems
- Adaptive control in communication networks
- Adaptive networked control systems
- Rule-based adaptive systems
- Adaptability in multi-agent systems
- Personalized and adaptive hypermedia
- Adaptive information provisioning
- Adaptive coordination
- Adaptability in e-services, including e-learning and e-commerce
- Adaptive negotiation
- Context-aware systems
Papers acceptance will be judged based on their relevance, clarity of
presentation, originality and accuracy of results and proposed solutions.
The papers will be published in the IEA/AIE 2008 conference proceedings,
in a bound volume by Springer Verlag in their Lecture Notes in Artificial
Intelligence series.

Description:
Interest in and requirements for the next generation of information
technology for science are expanding. e-Science has become a growing
subject of discussion covering topics such as grid computing for science
and knowledge-enhanced scientific data retrieval. Within individual
science areas, we are experiencing the emergence of virtual
observatories such as those in astronomy, heliophysics, geophysics and
solar-terrestrial physics, where virtual distributed collections of
scientific data are made available in a transparent manner. The goal of
such efforts is to provide a scientific research environment that
provides software tools and interfaces to interoperating data archives.
While initial goals for these efforts may include relatively simple uses
of AI techniques, the medium and long range goals for these efforts
require full scale semantic integration of scientific data, thus they
present interesting motivations for and tests of artificial intelligence
techniques.
Concurrent with the growing demand for next generation information
technology for science is a growth in semantic technologies. While
knowledge representation languages and environments continue to evolve,
some have reached a stable state in terms of reaching recommendation
status from standards bodies. This recommendation status has attracted
the interest of startup companies as well as established companies and a
number off academic and commercial tools and environments are now
available for use.
In this workshop, we are interested in bringing together the semantic
technologies community with the scientific information technology
community in an effort to build the general semantic science information
community. The workshop has multiple goals including obtaining
requirements for AI researchers from the scientific community, informing
the computational science community of AI research efforts that are
ready for use now or with additional research, and providing a forum for
current collaborative efforts to present their work.
Topics:
Knowledge representation foundations for e-science,
Ontologies and ontology environments aimed at science integration
applications,
Knowledge provenance / meta data /annotation for e-science,
AI-based scientific workflow,
AI-supported virtual observatories,
AI-supported community and collaboration for scientific application,
Knowledge-based extraction of scientific data and data models,
AI-based scientific interoperability,
Scientific semantic web services,
AI-supported scientific grid computing.
Query languages for science,
AI-based mapping and merging of scientific schemas
