It will take place at the two adjacent central campuses of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. The old town is just a few minutes away. Currently, minisymposia proposals are being solicited: Deadline for proposals: 31 Aug 2006 Notification of acceptance: 30 Sep 2006 An ICIAM minisymposium proposal requires a title and a short abstract or description (to be printed in the program) plus a short justification, which includes a tentative list of speakers. An ICIAM minisymposium consists of either one session (4 talks of 30 min) or two such sessions. A participant may organize several minisymposia, but should speak only in one of them. He or she may also speak in other minisymposia that are organized by other persons. The proposal has to be submitted electronically via the conference registration system, which is accessible from http://www.iciam07.ch/registration ICIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers or all the coauthors come from the same organization. It is unique in that it targets to synthesize the concepts from these diverse fields in a comprehensive fashion in the context of the semantics Web. The Web has now been in existence for quite some time and its pervasive in its influence on all aspects of society and commerce. It has also produced a major shift in our thinking on the nature and scope of information processing. However in its technological nature and its supporting theoretical foundations, it has remained relatively rudimentary, being currently largely suitable for information dissemination. It is rapidly moving away from this, to application deployment and knowledge deployment that require complex interactions and properly structured underlying semantics. This has been a sudden upsurge of research activity in the problems associated with adding semantics to the Web. This work on semantics will involve data, knowledge, and process semantics. The Second International IFIP WG 2.12 & WG 12.4 Workshop on Web Semantics (SWWS 06) will provide a forum for presenting original, unpublished research results, and innovative ideas related to this voluminous quantity of research. In SWWS06, as a complementary to the main OTM 06 conference themes, special focus is aimed at looking three rapidly evolving areas of interest for the Semantic Web, namely Security & Trust, Regulatory Ontologies and Fuzzy models. Trust and Reputation are assuming an increasing importance in interaction and commerce over the web. There are several trust and Reputation Systems (albeit simple) increasingly finding development by major development by major internet companies such as Amazon, eBay and Epinion. Also, there is a growing intend in using an attention formulation for web semantics based on Fuzzy set, models and protoforms. The intention of the workshop is to bring together a community of researchers and practitioners who will provide a collection of work that is of utmost importance to the advancement of the web semantics and its future, reviewed by the top experts and minds in the field, in an area of the utmost importance to business, IT and industry. Whom Should Attend The workshop is intended for researchers, academic, practitioners, IFIP workgroup WG 2.12/12.4 members and organizations who are actively involved in present and upcoming semantic web technologies. Moreover, the workshop concepts covered is a good reference point for academic and industrial researchers who want to familiarize themselves with emerging trends in semantic web research, technologies and applications. All submissions must be in English, and will be refereed by a program committee comprising members of the Working Group. Research submissions must not exceed 10 pages following the Springer format. Submissions should be made in PDF format. Sorrento, Italy =============================================================== Date: 1-4 December 2006 ISPA'2006: http://www.ispa-conference.org/2006/ Workshop URL: http://xhpc.ai.wu-wien.ac.at/ws/ (due date: August 4, Abstracts Jul 17) Scope: The Xen virtual machine monitor is reaching wide-spread adoption in a variety of operating systems as well as scientific educational and operational usage areas. With its low overhead, Xen allows for concurrently running large numbers of virtual machines, providing each encapsulation, isolation and network-wide CPU migratability. Xen offers a network-wide abstraction layer of individual machine resources to OS environments, thereby opening whole new cluster-and grid high-performance computing (HPC) architectures and HPC services options. With Xen finding applications in HPC environments, this workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners active on Xen in high-performance cluster and grid computing environments. The workshop will be one day in length, composed of 20 min paper presentations, each followed by 10 min discussion sections. Presentations may be accompanied with interactive demonstrations. The workshop will end with a 30 min panel discussion by presenters. By integrating cartographic data with geo-tagged knowledge repositories, the emerging Geospatial Web will revolutionize the production, distribution and consumption of media products. This edited volume will bring together high quality contributions on the technical foundations of the Geospatial Web, present information services and collaborative environments built on top of geo-browsers such as Google Earth and NASA World Wind, and investigate the economic and societal impacts of such knowledge-intensive applications. Geo-browsers are an ideal platform to integrate (i) cartographic data such as topographic maps and street directories, (ii) geo-tagged knowledge repositories aggregated from public online sources or corporate Intranets, and (iii) environmental indicators such as emission levels, ozone concentrations, and biodiversity density. This edited volume emphasizes the role of contextual knowledge in shaping the emerging network society. It investigates the impact of geospatial technology on content production environments, with an emphasis on hybrid approaches that combine the advantages of individual and collaborative content production – e.g. integrating ‘edited’ material from traditional encyclopedias and news media with ‘evolving’ content from Wiki applications.Such collaborative environments can be enriched by automated aggregators for Web content and news feeds in RSS, RDF, or Atom formats. Annotating content from these heterogeneous sources creates complex knowledge repositories spanning multiple dimensions (space, time, semantics, etc.). The size and complexity of these repositories calls for new interface metaphors to increase their accessibility and transparency. By integrating cartographic data with geo-tagged knowledge repositories, the emerging Geospatial Web will revolutionize the production, distribution and consumption of media products. This edited volume will bring together high quality contributions on the technical foundations of the Geospatial Web, present information services and collaborative environments built on top of geo-browsers such as Google Earth and NASA World Wind, and investigate the economic and societal impacts of such knowledge-intensive applications. Geo-browsers are an ideal platform to integrate (i) cartographic data such as topographic maps and street directories, (ii) geo-tagged knowledge repositories aggregated from public online sources or corporate Intranets, and (iii) environmental indicators such as emission levels, ozone concentrations, and biodiversity density. This edited volume emphasizes the role of contextual knowledge in shaping the emerging network society. It investigates the impact of geospatial technology on content production environments, with an emphasis on hybrid approaches that combine the advantages of individual and collaborative content production e.g. integrating edited material from traditional encyclopedias and news media with evolving content from Wiki applications. Such collaborative environments can be enriched by automated aggregators for Web content and news feeds in RSS, RDF, or Atom formats. Annotating content from these heterogeneous sources creates complex knowledge repositories spanning multiple dimensions (space, time, semantics, etc.). The size and complexity of these repositories calls for new interface metaphors to increase their accessibility and transparency. The design of data communication techniques in multi-hop ad hoc networks has challenges at all layers of communication. This workshop concentrates on the network layer problems like data communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.). Additionally, sensor networks are currently recognized as one of the priority research areas by NSF. The area of sensor networking is gaining momentum within the research community. This workshop will address ongoing research on this field, including problems such as: physical properties, sensor training, security through intelligent node cooperation, medium access, sensor area coverage with random and deterministic placement, object location, sensor position determination, energy efficient broadcasting and activity scheduling, routing, connectivity, data dissemination and gathering, sensor centric quality of routing, temporal message ordering, path exposure, tree reconfiguration, topology construction, and transport layer. The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple local node behaviour achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes. The main objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques.
