To deal with the increasing complexity of large-scale computing systems,
computers and applications must learn to manage themselves, in accordance
with high-level guidance from humans -- a vision that has been referred
to as ``autonomic computing". Meeting the grand challenges of autonomic
computing requires scientific and technological advances in a wide variety
of fields, as well as new software and system architectures that support
the effective integration of the constituent technologies.
The purpose of the 4th International Conference on Autonomic Computing is
to bring together researchers and practitioners addressing aspects of
self-management in computing systems, thereby developing and nurturing a
community that can work together to realize the vision of large-scale
self-managing systems. Papers are solicited on a broad array of topics of
relevance to autonomic computing; particularly those that bear on
connections and relationships among different areas of research or report
on prototype systems or experiences. Topics of interest include, but are
not limited to:
o Autonomic computing systems or prototype systems that exhibit
self-monitoring, self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing,
and/or self-protection.
o Specific self-managing components, such as server, storage, network,
data center or specific application elements. Emphasis should be placed
on techniques or lessons that may generalize to other components.
o Management topics, such as specification and modeling of business
level policies and their mapping to runtime management, including
service-level agreements, negotiation or conversation support, and
behavior enforcement, design processes, tie in with IT governance, and
interaction with legacy systems.
o Fundamental science of self-managing systems: understanding, controlling,
or exploiting emergent behavior, fault-tolerance, machine learning,
control theory, predictive methods and their use to automate manual
operations and enforce behavior.
o Software architectures for self-managing systems, based on interoperable
Grid Services, agent-based systems, Web Services, model-based systems or
novel paradigms such as biological, economic or social.
o System-level technologies, middleware or services that entail interactions
among two or more components of self-managing systems (e.g., health
monitoring and performance understanding, dependency analysis, problem
localization or remediation, workload management, and provisioning).
o Operating system support for autonomic systems, including virtualization,
migration, and distributed systems technologies.
o Interfaces to autonomic systems, including user interfaces, interfaces for
monitoring and controlling behavior, techniques for defining, distributing,
and understanding policies.
o Toolkits, environments, models, languages, runtime and compiler
technologies for building self-managing components, systems or applications.
o Experiences with autonomic system or component prototypes: measurements,
evaluations, or analyses of system behavior, user studies, or experiences
with large-scale deployments of self-managing systems or applications.

INTRODUCTION
The successful series of workshops on Environments for Multiagent
Systems
(E4MAS) at the International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and
Multiagent Systems (AAMAS) 2004, 2005, and 2006 have put the environment
on the agenda of the multiagent system research community. Research on
environments recognizes the environment as a first-class abstraction in
multiagent systems. On the one hand, the environment is an essential
part
of any multiagent system, it is the part of the world in with which the
agents interact and in which the effects of the agents will be observed
and evaluated. On the other hand, the environment can also be used
creatively in the design of multiagent systems. Agents can exploit the
environment to share information and coordinate their behavior. A clean
separation of agent and environment concerns helps to manage the huge
complexity of engineering complex real-world applications.
FOCUS OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE
The focus of this special issue is on the engineering of environments
in multiagent systems (MAS). Topics include but are not limited to:
- Responsibilities of environments in MAS
- Modularization of environments
- Software architecture and patterns for environments in MAS
- Agent architecture versus environment architecture
- Design and implementation of environment infrastructure for
perception, interaction, and communication
- Environment support for social structures (organizations, roles...)
- Design and implementation of indirect interaction and stigmergic
approaches (use of marks, digital pheromones, field-based approaches,
overhearing, tag-based interaction, etc.)
- Topology and distribution of environments
- Middleware and environments for MAS
- Aspect-oriented software development for environments in MAS
- Environments for emergence and self-organizing systems
- Environments for MAS and autonomic properties (self-configuration,
self-tuning, self-healing, etc.)
- Engineering of electronic institutions
- Engineering of law governed interaction
- Environment support for service-oriented agent systems
- Environment support for mobile and ad-hoc agent systems
- Environments in MAS simulation
- Experiences with developing MAS applications in which the
environment plays a central role

General
-------
Calculemus is a series of conferences dedicated to the integration of
computer algebra systems (CAS) and automated deduction systems (ADS)
towards the development of universal mathematical assistant systems
(MAS).
Currently, symbolic computation is divided into several (more or less)
independent branches, traditional ones (e.g. computer algebra and
theorem proving) as well as newly emerging ones (on user interfaces,
knowledge management, theory exploration, etc.). The main concern of
the Calculemus community is to bring these developments together in
order to facilitate the theory, design, and implementation of
integrated MAS that will routinely be used by mathematicians, computer
scientists, and engineers in their every-day business.
For the upcoming Calculemus meeting, which will be held jointly with
MKM2007 in Hagenberg, Austria, we seek original research papers in
this context.
Scope
-----
The scope of Calculemus covers all aspects of developing mathematical
assistant systems, in particular, the interplay of automated reasoning
and computer algebra. Potential areas of interest are:
o) Automated reasoning in computer algebra
o) Computer algebra in automated reasoning
o) Interdisciplinary systems
o) Infrastructure for mathematical services
o) Theory exploration techniques
o) Theory, design, and implementation of MAS
o) Case studies and applications of MAS

Interdisciplinary Aspects of Coordination
Applied to Pervasive Environments: Models and Applications (CoMA)

At the 16th IEEE International Workshops on Enabling Technologies:
Infrastructures for Collaborative Enterprises (WETICE)

Institut National des Telecommunications INT, Paris, France
========================================================================
WORKSHOP INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES
====================================
Coordination is significantly responsible for the effectiveness,
performance and quality of complex systems and as a concept it is not
restricted to computer-based systems. An explicit handling and a careful
integration of accurate coordination mechanisms enables an enhancement
of the overall system behaviour and contributes to improvements in terms
of flexibility, adaptability, maintenance, and exchangeability. The
concept is cross-sectional and a great impact may be reached in
different application areas if effective methods and models can be
designed, implemented, validated, and deployed. Coordination, moreover,
is an essential prerequisite for collaborative and telecooperative
applications, which are of prime interest to the WETICE series.
The CoMA workshop aims at the interdisciplinary aspects of coordination
in general, and examines their application to ubiquitous and pervasive
environments in particular. The overall goal is to support the users'
collaborative intentions in such environments as effectively,
imperceptibly, and unobtrusively as possible. An incorporation of
appropriate coordination mechanisms shall deliver the improvements
stated above to pervasive systems.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together on the one hand,
scientists who are either conducting research directly on pervasive
computing systems, coordination science, or indirectly in related fields
such as artificial intelligence, collaborative systems, CSCW, systems
research, complexity management, or process management. On the other
hand, this workshop particularly welcomes the contributions of
researchers and/or practitioners who concentrate on concrete
applications where a combination of coordination and pervasive systems
appears to be beneficial, such as emergency management or health care
systems, and can report on that.
The workshop particularly focuses on discussions about coordination and
pervasiveness, the current state of research efforts, and practical
experiences with the clear vision of generating mutual benefits for the
participants. To support this, opportunities for showcases,
demonstrations, and in-depth discussions will be provided. Eventually,
interdisciplinary and joint efforts shall be fostered and future
co-operations on research activities shall be triggered.

Feature Issue on
Particle Swarm Optimization
Guest editors: Maurice Clerc, James Kennedy and Patrick Siarry
Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is a stochastic, population-based
optimization algorithm introduced in 1995 by James Kennedy and Russel
Eberhart. Many variants of PSO have been developed since, including
constrained, multiobjective, and discrete or combinatorial versions, and
applications have been developed using PSO in many fields. An international
three-year project, XPS (eXtended Particle Swarms Project
http://xps-swarm.essex.ac.uk/) involving five universities, was launched in
October 2004.
Instead of competition/selection, like say in Evolutionary Computation, PSO
makes use of cooperation, according to a paradigm sometimes called "swarm
intelligence". Such systems are typically made up of a population of simple
interacting agents without any centralized control, and inspired by examples
that can be found in nature (ant colonies, bird flocking, animal herding,
bacteria molding, fish schooling, etc.)
We take the opportunity of the second French-speaking PSO seminar OEP'2007
in April 2007 in Paris (http://www.particleswarm.info/oep_2007) to prepare a
special issue of IJCIR about this method (that issue will include the
extended versions of some communications presented at OEP2007, but all
contributions outside the frame of the seminar are welcome). The goal is to
collect state of-the-art research papers that discuss recent developments in
that area and to highlight some general ideas.
Therefore, authors are invited to submit their original and unpublished
works including, but not limited to, the following:
Modelling and analysis of PSO variations. Works about easy to use
methods adaptive or even parameter-less ones would be particularly
welcome
Theoretical optimization studies applicable to PSO
Comparisons with some other methods
Hybrid methods that make use of PSO
Real life applications

Intelligent computing is a quite mature field of information and
communication technology covering a hybrid palette of methods and
techniques derived from classical artificial intelligence,
computational intelligence, multi-agent systems a.o. Intelligent
computing is generally known to be computationally intensive from
the point of view of resources required: time, memory, bandwidth. As
this is usually thought to be a drawback, distributed computing is
expected to give an impetus to its practical applications. Moreover,
intelligent techniques have also proved their usefulness to core
distributed computing technologies like: planning & scheduling, load
balancing, replication, resource allocation and management, etc.
Therefore, the emergent field of intelligent and distributed
computing is expected to pose new challenges of adaptation and
fruitful combination of both areas. The aim of this symposium is to
bring together researchers involved in intelligent and distributed
computing to allow cross-fertilization and synergy of ideas and to
enable advancement of researches in the field.
The symposium welcomes submissions of original papers concerning all
aspects of intelligent and distributed computing ranging from
concepts and theoretical developments to advanced technologies and
innovative applications. Papers acceptance and publication will be

IEEE International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing and
Applications (SOCA 2007)
June 19-20, 2007, Newport Beach, California
Important Dates
* Paper submission: Jan 7, 2006
* Paper decision: Mar 1, 2007
* Final version: April 10, 2007
* Conference date: June 19-20, 2007
Aims and scope
Service-oriented computing has emerged as a major software architecture
in the past few years. SOC using Web services is based on the open
Internet standard protocols and is easier for enterprises to support.
The success of service-oriented systems also relies on the wide adoption
of the core technologies from all interconnected business partners and
computing environments. Many researchers therefore are developing new
models, technologies, and platforms for SOC. They also build flexible
and adaptive infrastructures for services developments and management in
order to facilitate the dynamic integration and composition of services
across different platforms and organizations.
While computer and engineering sciences have laid the foundation for
service-oriented computing, the study produces more then just the tools
to automate transactions and/or system integration. Indeed, by employing
appropriate information and knowledge, service-oriented computing
promises an unprecedented opportunity to rethink fundamental assumptions
about markets and economic efficacy through electronic markets and
virtual organizations, and open a whole range of new research questions.
This conference provides a forum for researchers who are interested in
the issues and practices related to the development of service-oriented
computing, design and technology, including theoretical foundations,
service infrastructures, and their applications and experiences. We
welcome innovative service research from both academic and industry
communities.
The proceedings of SOCA conference 2007 will be published by IEEE. The
best papers from the proceedings will be selected for publication in the
new Springer Journal on Service-Oriented Computing and Applications
(SOCA), to be inaugurated in March 2007, as well as special issues in
many other journals.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Inaugural International Conference on
Distributed Event-Based Systems (DEBS 2007)
Toronto, Canada, June 20-22, 2007
http://debs.msrg.toronto.edu
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In cooperation with: USENIX, IEEE and IEEE Computer Society, ACM (pending)
We acknowledge sponsorship from: CA Labs (main event sponsor)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Inaugural International Conference on Distributed Event-Based Systems is
following on the success of the previous five DEBS Workshops held from 2002 to
2006 in companion with major conferences sponsored by IEEE and ACM such as
ICDCS, ICSE, and SIGMOD/PODS.
Event-based systems have been established in industry and research for many
years. They are now gaining increasing momentum as witnessed by current
efforts in areas including event-driven architectures, business process
management and modeling, Grid computing, Web services notifications, and
message-oriented middleware. Events represent asynchronous state transitions
in the environment and event-based computing refers to the computational
support and abstractions required to adequately manage and process events.
Continuing DEBS as an independent conference aims to satisfy this growing and
interdisciplinary interest in event-based computing. The objectives of the
DEBS Conference are to provide a forum dedicated to the dissemination of
original research, the discussion of practical insights, and the reporting on
relevant experience relating to event-based computing previously scattered
across several communities.
The scope of the conference covers all topics relevant to event-based
computing ranging from those discussed in related disciplines (e.g.,
coordination, software engineering, peer-to-peer systems, Grid computing, and

Submission Guidelines
=====================
All papers must represent original and unpublished work that is not currently
under review. Each paper will be reviewed by at least three independent
referees. Papers will be evaluated according to their significance,
originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the
conference. At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to attend
the conference.
Three types of paper submissions will be accepted: research papers, industry
papers, and demo papers. Submitted papers should clearly indicate their type.
Accepted papers will be published by ACM.
The conference proceedings will be published as part of the ACM International
Proceedings Series and will be disseminated through the ACM Digital Library.
The conference adopts a **double blind** review process, where neither authors
nor reviewer know each others' identities.
Papers must not exceed the given number of pages for the respective paper type
(see below). The required format for the submission is the ACM SIG
Proceedings Style. The author(s) name(s) and address(es) must not appear in
the body of the paper, and self-reference should be in the third person. This
is to facilitate a double-blind review process. Please apply the ACM
Computing Classification categories and terms. The ACM Computing
Classification scheme can be found at http://www.acm.org/class/1998/. The
author kit containing the Latex templates for the required style can be found
at: http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html. More detailed
submission instructions will be posted at the conference web site.
Research Papers: (max. 12 pages)
A research paper describes new results that advance the state-of-the-art in
basic or applied research. Short papers (max. 6 pages) presenting
work-in-progress are also welcome.
Industry Papers: (max. 8 pages)
An industry paper describes the design, the experience (in building,
deploying and running), or the performance of an industry system. Commonly,
the majority of authors on the paper are from industry. Product marketing
will not be accepted as paper.
Demo Papers: (max. 4 pages)
A demo paper reports on an existing research prototype by clearly
identifying the original contributions and ideas demonstrated. The authors
are expected to prepare a poster, give a short presentation, and perform a
live software demonstration on their own laptop during an exhibit-style
conference reception. Any special requirements should be identified in the
appendix of the paper.

Call for Papers
for a special issue in the international journal
Artificial Intelligence Review
Title: Artificial Intelligence and the Grid
Guest Editors: R. H. Perrott, P. Milligan and P. P. Sage
Queen’s University Belfast
The concept of the grid can be regarded as a facility with a number of
layered components. The first layer is the computational grid which will
provide the raw computing power, high speed bandwidth interconnection
and associate data storage. The second layer, which is superimposed on
top of the computational grid, is known as the information grid which
will allow easily accessible connections to major sources of information
and tools for its analysis and visualisation. The next layer is the
knowledge grid which involves special techniques that give added value
to the information and also provide intelligent guidance for
decision-makers. This Call for Papers is concerned mainly with this last
layer.
Artificial intelligence has been a main stream research area for many
years and the resulting numerous AI tools and techniques have been
deployed in a wide variety of application areas. For example, expert
systems and neural networks have been used in the various processes
associated with autoparallelisation.
Can AI techniques assist in the development of novel systems,
environments and applications within the context of grid platforms ?
This special issue intends to focus on this union of research areas and
seeks papers that demonstrate how AI techniques are being used to assist
in the development of quality systems intended for use on Grids.
Topics include but are not limited the use of AI techniques within:
Intelligent and Virtual Execution Environments (IVEE’s), Trust Enhanced
Negotiation Protocols, Resource Aggregation, Service-Oriented
Architectures, Fault-Tolerance, Collaborative Learning, Rational
Argumentation among Agents, Intelligent Agent-Based Approaches for Grid
Systems and Grid Applications
Deadline for Submission: Friday, 2nd March 2007
Inquiries and manuscripts should be sent to Peter Milligan at
P.Milligan(a)qub.ac.uk or Paul Sage at P.Sage(a)qub.ac.uk.

FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
======================
Submissions should contain recent original research relevant to the
topics of the conference. There are two possible modes of submission:
* Full papers with complete proofs. In this case also an
abstract of two to four pages is requested.
* Extended abstracts of at least four pages containing full
results, an outline of the proofs and all of the main ideas.
If the result should be published, a full paper must be handed
in later.
MEGA is the acronym for Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry (and its
equivalent in Italian, French, Spanish, German, Russian etc.), a series
of roughly biannual conferences on computational and application aspects
of Algebraic Geometry and related topics, with very high standards.
Previous meetings were held in 1990 (Castiglioncello, Italy), 1992
(Nice, France), 1994 (Santander, Spain), 1996 (Eindhoven, Nederlands),
1998 (Malo, France), 2000 (Bath, UK), 2003 (Kaiserslautern, Germany) and
2005 (Alghero, Italy).
Proceedings containing a selection of the papers and invited talks
presented at previous conferences have been published by Birkhaeuser in
the series Progress in Mathematics (volumes 94, 109, 143), by the
Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra (volumes 117, 118, 139, 164), and by
the Journal of Symbolic Computation (volume 39/3-4 and one double issue
to appear). We plan to publish selected papers from the conference in a
special issue of the Journal of Symbolic Computation.
MEGA 2007 will be held at the "bifeb" (a center for adult education) in
"Strobl am Wolfgangsee", Austria, from June 24 to 30, 2007.
For submitting a paper, go to
http://www.ricam.oeaw.ac.at/mega2007/openconf/author/submit.php

Call for Papers - IWRT'07
The First International Workshop on
RFID Technology - Concepts, Applications, Challenges
12 June 2007, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal
http://www.iceis.org/workshops/iwrt/iwrt2007-cfp.html
In conjunction with the 9th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS'07)
Workshop Background and Goals
-----------------------------
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless communication technology that uses radio-frequency waves
to transfer information between tagged objects and readers without line of sight. This creates tremendous opportunities
for linking various objects from real world. These objects are numbered, identified, catalogued, and tracked.
In recent years, RFID has gained a significant momentum and is emerging as an important technology for revolutionizing
a wide range of applications including supply chain management, retail, aircraft maintenance, anti-counterfeiting,
baggage handling, healthcare, just to cite some.
While RFID provides promising benefits such as inventory visibility and business process automation, some significant challenges
need to be overcome before these benefits can be realized. One important issue is how to process and manage RFID data,
which is typically in large volume, noisy and unreliable, time-dependent, dynamically changing, and of varying ownership.
Another issue is how to seamlessly integrate low-level RFID data into (existing) enterprise information infrastructures
(e.g., upper-level business processes). Finally, given the ability of inexpensively tagging and thus monitoring a large number of
items and/or people, RFID raises some serious security and privacy concerns. Indeed, RFID privacy and security are stimulating
research areas that involve rich interplay among many disciplines, like signal processing, hardware design, supply-chain logistics,
privacy rights, and cryptography.
The workshop's objective is to provide a forum for researchers, practitioners, and users to exchange new ideas, developments,
and experience on issues related to this emerging field.

Call for Papers: Workshop Multimedia Semantics - The Role of Metadata
=====================================================================
6th Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community
Aachen, Germany, March 5-6, 2007.
http://www.multimedia-metadata.info/Events/WMS07/wms07cfp
The web 2.0 will be a multimedia web. In order to make multimedia
services ubiquitous, accessible and interoperable we need new mechanisms to
describe and process the semantics of multimedia artefacts on the web.
Metadata, mostly linguistic data about multimedia artefacts, will play an
important role in these mechanisms.
The overall objective of the workshop is to investigate the current
practice of multimedia metadata for contextualized ubiquitous, accessible
and interoperable services on a higher semantic level, e.g. in
collaborative working environments. We concentrate on the development of
services and test beds for MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 based services, but also
contributions related to other multimedia metadata description standards
are welcome. The majority of multimedia metadata description standards in
use is based on XML. This has important consequences on the development of
services and test beds on the database, the infrastructure and the
interface level. We are encouraging especially contributions from
interested research groups from the database, the web service and
the web 2.0 area.
This is the 6th Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community

Location of the Meeting, Accommodation, Cultural Program
According to the preliminary agreement, the MMM-ACNS-07 Conference will take place in the historical building
"Palace of Grand Prince Vladimir Romanov," now "House of Scientists," located in the heart of St. Petersburg,
address: 26, Dvortsovaya emb., St. Petersburg, 191186, Russia. This venue allows the conference organizers to
arrange for the Conference itself, as well as for the associated events (informal discussions, reception, breaks,
etc.)
All participants are expected to arrive to St. Petersburg directly. Conference organizers intend to arrange for
transportation upon arrival and departure and to/from Conference venue/other hotel upon a separate request of
participants.
The following assistance in housing could be provided by local organizers. We intend to engage a Destination
Management Company "Monomax" to assist participants in housing and cultural programs
(http://monomax.ru/langeng). It is possible to make reservations at reasonable prices in hotels
in the St. Petersburg downtown area from $120 per night (single room), and from $130 per night (double room).
Also, reservations in better and more expensive hotels at $150 - $600 per night are available
(hotels like Astoria, Europe, Radisson SAS, etc.).
For students, the hostel from about $50 may be organized on special request.
Visa Issues
To come to Russia, all foreign participants will need an entering visa. As a host institution SPIIRAS will
handle this issue through a formal invitation letter to every participant.
To issue such a letter, we shall need the following details to include in the above letter for every individual:
first name, middle name, surname, date of birth, citizenship, passport No., expiration date
(as appear in a valid passport) and the city where the visa is applied in.
In addition, each individual has to fax copy of the first page of his/her passport at +7(812)328-06-85
containing personal data and dates of the passport number and expiry date.
Note that about one month is required only to arrange formal invitation in St. Petersburg. Time for invitation
mailing to the addressee and for getting visa at local consulate has to be added to calculate the deadline to be
met for receiving request for invitation letter by organizers.
