These technologies constitute knowledge capture, and involve the extraction of useful knowledge from vast and diverse sources of information as well as its acquisition directly from users. Driven by the demands for knowledge-based applications and the unprecedented availability of information on the Internet, the study of knowledge capture has a renewed importance. Although there has been considerable work in the area of knowledge capture, activities have been distributed across several distinct research communities, including knowledge engineering, machine learning, natural language processing, and the Semantic Web community. K-CAP 2005 will provide a forum that brings together disparate research communities such as these, whose members are interested in efficiently capturing knowledge from a variety of sources and in creating representations that can be useful for reasoning. This concept has become even more important because recent development of computational methods enables us to compute large-scale Voronoi diagrams in a robust manner, and consequently enables us to apply this idea to practical problems arising in real worlds. While the contributions from theoreticians of Voronoi diagrams are and will be important, the discoveries of important real world problems where the Voronoi/Delaunay diagram can contribute will be even more important driving forces for the evolution of Voronoi/Delaunay diagrams. The goal of this symposium is to exchange ideas among different disciplines and different fields of science and engineering. In particular, the interactions and collaborations between theoretical computational geometers and researchers from various domains in science and engineering will be highly encouraged. In this year, the symposium extends its scope even further to cover a rather new field of Voronoi diagram, the Voronoi Art. What type of student data is useful to analyze and why? What are the uses for analyzing data from one single user and from groups of users? Is student model data sufficient and appropriate? - What are the expected results of these analysis, for whom are they produced (designer in a reengineering purpose, tutor or teacher to support and understand learner’s activity, learner to enhance the awareness and the appropriation of the system and education), in what format are they provided, and why they are considered as a valuable information? - What are the different potential uses of such analysis for (i) learners, (ii) ITS designers and (iii) teachers and education practitioners? In what way the information extracted would be used in a specific context (limited to the domain of application and student population) and in more general context? - Is it likely that a new way of teaching could emerge from the process of using student data analysis? Half of these will be of a practical nature, providing participants with training in transferable skills, the other half will be more science policy oriented. Biological/molecular computing SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Submissions should include an abstract, 5-10 keywords, the e-mail address of the corresponding author, and must not exceed 30 pages, including tables and figures, with PDF, PostScript, or MS Word format. Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present the work. Submissions to HPCC-05 will be conducted electronically on the conference website. SPECIAL SESSIONS Special sessions are planned for the duration of the conference. Each technical session will have at least 5-6 paper presentations (from different authors). The session chairs will be responsible for all aspects of their sessions; including, soliciting papers, reviewing, selecting, etc. Proposals to organize technical sessions should include the following information: name and address (+ E-mail) of the chair, title of session, a 100-word description of the topic of the session, and a short description on how the session will be advertised (in most cases, session chairs solicit papers from colleagues and researchers whose work is known to the session chair). Send your proposal to one of the program co-chairs. E-mail submissions are preferred.
