EURASIP JWCN Special Issue on Wireless Sensor Networks
Call for Papers
Recent advances in integrated circuit and digital wireless
communication technologies have enabled the design of wireless
sensor networks to facilitate the joint processing of spatially
and temporally distributed information. Such networks greatly
enhance our ability to understand and evaluate complex systems
and environments. Using wireless connectivity for sensor networks
offers increased flexibility in the deployment and reconfiguration
of the network and reduces the infrastructure cost. These advantages
will enable sensor networks to monitor complex environments for
applications ranging from battlefield surveillance to environment
monitoring and telemedicine control.
Enormous challenges in the understanding of sensor networks
presently impede deployment of many of the envisaged applications.
In particular, for wireless sensor networks that employ in situ
unattended sensors, physical constraints integrating power,
bandwidth, and cost have presented significant challenges
as well as research opportunities in the field. One of the major
concerns is maintaining connectivity: the geographical disperseness
of the sensor nodes and the ad hoc network structure, coupled
with the above-mentioned resource constraints, make this a unique
challenge. Maintaining efficient network operation is further
exacerbated by the volume of data generated by the sensors,
which is disproportionally large compared with the network
capacity. This special issue is intended to provide a venue for
the dissemination of high-quality research addressing these
challenges for wireless sensor networks. We solicit original
contributions that have direct connection to or impact on the
communications and networking design of wireless sensor networks.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
o Integrated sensing, processing, communications, and networking;
o Channel-aware and distributed sensing and processing;
o Joint-source channel coding for wireless sensor networks;
o Fundamental performance limits and information-theoretic study
of wireless sensor networks;
o Fading and diversity in wireless sensor networks
o Distributed data and sensor management
o Network protocols for wireless sensor networks
o Cross-layer design techniques
o Energy management
o Distributed self-organization
o Support for quality of service (QoS) in wireless sensor networks

Call for Papers
1st International Workshop on
Learner-Oriented Knowledge Management
&
KM-Oriented E-Learning
(LOKMOL 2005)
Workshop affiliated to 3rd Conference on
Professional Knowledge Management
(WM 2005)
10 April - 13 April 2005, Kaiserslautern, Germany.
http://wm2005.iese.fhg.de/workshop3-en.html
=============================================================================
=========
MOTIVATION AND BACKGROUND
An interview based study (Efimova, 2002) showed that perceived connections
between Knowledge Management and e-learning are not operationalised, i.e.,
the integration-ideas are rarely implemented in practice: So far, Knowledge
Management addresses learning mostly as part of knowledge sharing processes
and focuses on specific forms of informal learning (e.g., learning in a
community of practice) or to providing access to learning resources or
experts. Current Knowledge Management technologies focus on knowledge
acquisition, storage, retrieval, and maintenance. However, regarding the
deployment process, learning is considered to be a fundamental part of
Knowledge Management because employees must internalise (learn) shared
knowledge before they can use it to perform specific tasks (Rus & Lindvall,
2002). On the other hand, e-learning systems might also benefit from
Knowledge Management technologies. Especially the ones focusing on the
support of technical and organisational components can play an important
role concerning the development of professional e-learning systems.
Moreover, it is still unclear to what degree centralised or decentralised
systems (e.g., Weblogs, Wikis, XML/RSS based content syndication and
aggregation) support certain learning processes. Thus, this workshop is
based on the insight that Knowledge Management technologies need to take
into account findings from social sciences such as pedagogics or psychology,
to be effective in terms of learning and that learning can profit from
Knowledge Management technologies. In fact, there is a gap between well
organised, but monolithic and inert e-learning material such as courseware
on the one hand and dynamic and flexible knowledge bases that are not able
to activate learning processes on the other hand. An integration of
knowledge management and e-learning could dramatically change today's
understanding of further education towards lifelong learning fed by
dynamically changing public and organisational knowledge repositories.
GOALS AND WORKSHOP QUESTIONS
The workshop will focus on the following questions:
* Methods: Which pedagogical approaches are suitable to facilitate learning
from knowledge repositories? How can knowledge management systems be
enhanced to suit the learners' needs as well as pedagogical principles such
as informal and self-directed learning? What kind of pedagogical theories,
principles and methods can be applied to compose learning material (semi-)
automatically from knowledge chunks?
* Standards and technologies: Up to what extend do current knowledge
management and e-learning standards support such an integration of learning
and knowledge management? What are the requirements of Knowledge Management
technologies to support the learners' needs and individual learning
processes? What kind of technologies exist that combine stored knowledge to
learning material based on e.g., instructional design models or didactic
concepts? What are the advantages and disadvantages of centralised and
decentralised systems regarding learning processes?
* Empirical results: Which empirical findings demonstrate the efficiency and
effectiveness of learning material created in accordance with these methods
and technologies?
POSSIBLE TOPIC AREAS
- adaptivity and personalisation for learning
* adaptive information retrieval
* adaptivity in content presentation and presentation generation
* the importance of "context" and how it can be represented
* user modeling, user modeling frameworks, learning goals
- learner-oriented knowledge structuring
* metadata concepts; standardisation vs application needs
* ontologies to enable interoperability and to improve search and
navigation * issues of domain (in)dependence and generic approaches/systems
- learning with Knowledge Management
* integration of instructional design models in Knowledge Management systems
* philosophy of learning with Knowledge Management systems
* stimulating learning processes with Knowledge Management systems
- collaborative work and collaborative learning
* use of Knowledge Management systems in communities of practice
* use of Knowledge Management systems for informal or self-directed learning
- aspects of sustainability; from academia to professional Knowledge
Management and e-learning
TARGET GROUPS
The workshop brings together researchers and practitioners that are
interested in combining findings from two different fields: knowledge
management and e-learning. Thus, it especially addresses people with a
background in pedagogics or psychology who want to share their knowledge
with people from the more technology-oriented knowledge management
community. The workshop language will be English.
SUBMISSIONS
Each submission must explicitly address at least one of the questions above
(the fulfilment of this requirement will be part of the review process).
During the workshop all presenters will have the opportunity to state their
individual contribution to these questions. In summary sessions these
contributions will be collected and evaluated by the audience. Contributions
submitted should not exceed 4 pages for short papers and 6 pages for long
papers: * short papers: short descriptions of ongoing or beginning work,
topics for discussion, position papers, thesis descriptions. Length: up to 4
pages (including references) * full papers: full papers are detailed
descriptions of scientific work. Length: up to 6 pages (including
references)
The submitted papers should be written in English and be formatted according
to the Springer LNCS guidelines (have a look at
http://www.springeronline.com/sgw/cda/frontpage/0,10735,5-164-2-72376-0,00.h
tml).

performance, quality of service, security, and ubiquity are relentless,
despite global economy fluctuations. The demand for high bandwidth
network infrastructures is continuously growing within both academic
and industrial sectors.
Grid computing is one of the many examples of the new emerging paradigm
of networking characterized by huge data traffic flows, that require
an extremely high-performance network infrastructure. The need of high
speed is emerging also in mobile, wireless network environments, where
new wireless technologies promise data rates above 100 Mbps. Other high
bandwidth network examples include community access networks, on demand
optical networks and the Next Generation Internet.
To meet these challenges, experimental activities on infrastructures,
such as testing, verification, deployment, are pivotal for academic
researchers, developers, service managers and providers, as well as for
end users.
The management of research infrastructures is increasingly dependent
on a business model that optimizes their operational price/performance
ratio. For example, access to experimental infrastructures for real-life
applications by specific user communities would benefit all the
stakeholders involved: the end users, because of the experimental
evaluation of the provided services, the researchers and infrastructure
experimenters, because of the knowledge gained from case-study analysis,
and the infrastructure managers, because of the business exploitation of
the network.
The synergies created by opening research infrastructures to real life
users offer all parties involved an enormous development potential,
which needs to be thoroughly investigated and discussed. Tridentcom is
the first event that brings together all aspects related to experimental
telecommunication infrastructures, creating a forum where
telecommunication networks researchers, vendors, providers and users
can exchange ideas on past experience, requirements, needs, visions for
the establishment of such infrastructures.
Research on all aspects of testbed and research infrastructure operation
and management will find in Tridentcom its first forum for focused
discussion. High quality papers reporting on original research and on
experiment results addressing the above areas are solicited for
submission. The main topics of the conference are:
Next Generation Internet Testbeds
Next Generation Wireless Network Testbeds
Next Generation Optical Network Testbeds
Ubiquitous Network Testbeds
Wireless Sensor Testbeds

Dear All,
Thank you for your help so far and apologies for failing or delaying to replyemails. It seems that my Middlesex webmail account refuses to work.
I include the second call for papers for the eLOC workshop as distributed inDBWorld and ISWorld.
Some interesting facts so far:
Professor Chadia Abras will be the second key note speaker and her talk will be on Heuristics for Success in e-Learning Online Communities
The Program Committee is now complete with 48 members (I am afraid that since I am on my holiday there may be a couple of last minute additions when I return to England)
It seems that we have managed to generate a lot of interest and have receivedthe first paper submissions. Please try to promote this event as moresubmissions is the best way to ensure the high quality of the workshop.
Finally let me remind you to keep the deadline in mind and attempt to submityour own research papers to the workshop. I am hoping for a third and finalcall for papers one week before the deadline.
Best regards
George

Co-located with the3rd ACS/IEEE International Conference on Computer Systems and ApplicationsJanuary 3-6, 2005, Cairo, EgyptAICCSA 2005http://engr.smu.edu/cse/AICCSA-05/
Workshop Theme:
Online Communities were initially regarded as social gatherings between people that shared common interests, communicating over a network primarily to exchange information and engage in informal communication. The technological evolution of the past two decades leading to the creation of the World Wide Web and the proliferation of the Internet was the primary factor for Online Communities to transform from a social interaction medium to virtual environments with commercial value. This transformation was accompanied by several changes regarding community membership, user activities and behavioural patterns. Significant research has focused on providing principles for community building, identifying success criteria for established communities and understanding sociability, functionality and usability issues.
The increased popularity of Online Communities triggered the diversification of the community building process depending on those aspects forming the core of a community and enticing Internet users to become members; hence the birth of online communities focusing on games, health, commercial transactions, travel and education. The first communities for education emerged in the mid-80s and since then they evolved to online meeting places for people involved in remote, distance or e-Learning. Members of e-Learning Online Communities frequently express additional requirements since they rely on computer-mediated communication for acquiring knowledge and engaging on educational activities. Currently several institutions have created e-Learning Online Communities and there is early evidence of their future success.
The aim of this workshop is to attract contributions from educators andresearchers that have participated in the investigation, development andevaluation of e-Learning Online Communities.
Key Note I:
Paul LengProfessor of e-Learning in the Department of Computer Science,Director of the e-Learning UnitUniversity of Liverpool
The role of discussion in online learning
In online classes and online learning communities, dialogue between participants has a central role. Effective online discussions may not only be an important part of the learning experience, but can also help resolve other issues that are problematic in e-Learning, including questions of identity, plagiarism, and quality control. In this talk I will discuss these issues in the context of an established online Higher Education programme. Research issues arising from this will also be highlighted.
Key Note II:

Heuristics for Success in e-Learning Online Communities
E-Learning is becoming a major component in todays academic setting. Therefore, the success of e-learning online communities is crucial in order to insure their permanency and effectiveness. In e-Learning there is a need for formalized guidelines that instruct the designer (class teacher) on how to design, maintain, and manage a course. Some research has been done on the subject, but none proposes formalized guidelines, and none draws the results from the users perspectives. The users or students in this case should be at the heart of the design and their thoughts wishes and needs should be implemented in the design (user-centered design). In this study, through an iterative testing approach a list of design heuristics that instruct an online educator on how to design, manage, deliver, and nurture an e-Learning Online Community is formalized and validated.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Artificial intelligence application in e-Learning Online CommunitiesArchitecture of e-Learning Online Community environmentsBuilding e-Learning Online CommunitiesCase studies of e-Learning Online CommunitiesCollaborative e-Learning methodologies and toolsCommunication patterns in e-Learning Online CommunitiesComputer-Assisted Assessment (focus on provision of feedback)Developing countries and the use of e-Learning Online CommunitiesEvaluation of e-Learning Online CommunitiesGroupware applications for e-LearningIntegrated e-Learning and/or Online Community environmentsNatural Language Processing techniques in e-Learning

30.09.04 einreichen.
(z.B. per Email an jean.bourne(a)nexusmedia.com
<mailto:jean.bourne@nexusmedia.com>)
Aktuelle und weitere Informationen zur TESI 2005 finden Sie unter
