CALL FOR PAPERS
MDM/KDD2003 : The Fourth International Workshop on Multimedia Data Mining
(http://research.it.uts.edu.au/emarkets/mdmkdd2003/ currently updating)
in conjunction with
KDD-2003: 9th ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery &
Data Mining August 24 - 27, 2003, Washington, DC, USA
(http://www.acm.org/sigkdd/kdd2003/) (August 24th, 2003)
MDM/KDD2003 WORKSHOP THEME : Integrated Media Mining
THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will address issues specifically related to mining information
from multi-modality, multi-source, multi-format data in an integrated way.
Many analysis domains collect data from several sources, including static
databases, streaming data, web pages, or conditionally collected data. Data
appear in multiple forms, including structured, numeric, free text, video,
image, speech, or combinations of several types. Analysis in these domains
requires combining of techniques and integrating methods. Examples include
using Text Mining to generate structured features that can be further used
by Data Mining in conjunction with existing structured data, or combining
information mined from a photo image with text data, meta-data, and web
links to other pages. On the other hand, researchers in multimedia
information systems, in the search for techniques for improving the indexing
and retrieval of multimedia information are looking into new methods for
discovering indexing information. Variety of techniques from machine
learning, statistics, databases, knowledge acquisition, data visualization,
image analysis, high performance computing, and knowledge-based systems,
have been used mainly as a research handcraft activity. The development of
multimedia databases and their query interfaces recall again the idea of
incorporating multimedia data mining methods for dynamic indexing. The
emerging international standard for multimedia content description (MPEG-7)
promises to foster the collaboration in the field giving a uniform data
representation. The aim of the workshop is to contribute in finding suitable
answers to the following questions: - What are the theoretical foundations
of multimedia data mining?
- What are the problems and applications where multimedia data mining can
have severe impact? - What are the advanced architectures of multimedia data
mining systems? - What are the specific issues raised in integrated patterns
extraction from multimedia data and its components, including images, sound,
video, and other non-structured data? - What are suitable multimedia
representations and formats that can help data mining in multimedia data?
The major topics of the workshop include but are not limited to:
- Integrated mining of different data formats (text, speech, video,
structured, image, relational data) - Combining mining results from
different sources
- Integrated mining methods for eBusiness
- Combined mining methods for engineering and manufacturing
- Integrated mining for Homeland Security
- Mining of data streams combined with structure data
- Visual data mining of multi-format/ Multimedia data
- Multi-relational Data Mining. The focus is on mining data residing in
relational databases. - Visual data mining of multi-format/multimedia data.
- Theoretical frameworks for multimedia data mining.
- Multimedia data mining methods and algorithms.
- Multimedia data sampling and preprocessing.
- Data visualization and sonification.
- Representation and reuse of discovered knowledge.
- Multimedia data descriptions languages and formats.

Conference History and Guiding Principles
*****************************************
Ever-evolving and increasingly powerful information and communication
technologies have substantially changed the nature of global
relationships, sources of competitive advantage and opportunities for
economic and social development. The Internet, portable
computers/devices and wireless communication technologies have turned
the globe into an interconnected network of individuals, firms,
organizations, and governments communicating and interacting with each
other through a variety of channels.
Net.ObjectDays (NODe) is one of the main international conferences that
focus on object-oriented and internet-based technologies, concepts,
services, and applications. It is the integrative successor of the well
known JavaDays, STJA, and JIT conferences and is organized in this
format for the fourth time. It puts strong emphasis on the active
exchange of concepts and technologies between academia and industry.
Continuing in this tradition, this year's NODe will offer the
opportunity to meet and work with leaders from research and industry.
NODe 2003 especially focuses on topics such as object-oriented
(distributed) technologies, concepts and systems, component-based
approaches and software product lines, agent-related technologies,
knowledge management for the Internet, advanced database systems and
the Web, quality, security, and reliability issues for all kinds of
E-Business, specifically for E-Government and B2B E-Commerce, including
both the engineering and use of web-based applications. As systems ought
to be engineered well to be able to cope with the influx of the
above-mentioned technologies in a positive way, the integrative factor
of software architectures and component-driven technologies (especially
their demands with regards to structures (patterns and architectures)
and processes (enhanced life-cycles and workflows)) form additional
focuses of NODe 2003. However, as in the years before, NODe will be open
to questions and aspects of object-oriented and Internet-based
technology in general and invites submissions related to a wide variety
of topics in these areas.

CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd IASTED International Conference on
Communications, Internet and Information Technology
(CIIT 2003)
November 17 - 19, 2003
Scottsdale, Arizona
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
Submissions due---------------------------June 15, 2003
Notification of acceptance---------------August 1, 2003
Final manuscript due---------------------September 15, 2003
Registration and full payment-----------September 15, 2003
SPONSORS
The International Association of Science and Technology for Development
(IASTED) · Technical Committee on Information Systems
· Technical Committee on Telecommunications
· Technical Committee on the Web, Internet, and Multimedia
PURPOSE
This conference is an international forum for researchers and practitioners
interested in the advances in, and applications of, communication systems,
network management, information systems, and the Internet. It is an
opportunity to present and observe the latest research, results, and ideas
in these areas. All papers submitted to this conference will be peer
reviewed by at least two members of the International Program Committee.
Acceptance will be based primarily on originality and contribution. CIIT
2003 will be held in conjunction with the IASTED International Conference on
Information and Knowledge Sharing (IKS 2003).
LOCATION
This year's CIIT conference will be held at the Mountain Shadows Marriott
Resort & Golf Club in the sunny Arizona town of Scottsdale, located just
east of Phoenix. Originally inhabited by the Hohokam peoples, the land was
purchased in 1888 and became a small farming community. Today, Scottsdale
has a population of nearly 200,000 friendly inhabitants, and is famous for
its nationally recognized resorts and hotels. Scottsdale also has a wide
range of attractions to offer visitors, including the Frank Lloyd Wright's
Taliesin West Museum, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, and the Out of Africa
Wildlife Park. Its frequent equestrian events and "Rawhide," a replica
cowboy town from the 1880s, offer an interesting taste of the "Old West."
The town's warm desert climate makes it easy to enjoy many outdoor activities
as well, such as hiking or river rafting through the Sonoran Desert or
horseback riding into the mountains. Scottsdale's relaxed lifestyle, rustic
steakhouses, and passion for rodeos have given the city the nickname of "the
west's most western town," and offers something unique for everyone.
