:
: Aims and scope of the conference
:
: To succeed in the accelerating business pace of the "internet age",
: companies must efficiently leverage their most valuable and
: under-leveraged resource: the intellectual capital of their highly
: educated, skilled, and experienced employees. The compression of
: communication cycles and the omnipresence of information forces
: enterprises to seek a faster return on knowledge - knowledge that
: ages rapidly in a market place brimming with innovation. One of the
: most important prerequisites in achieving this return is the
: systematic management of the key success factor "knowledge" -
: previously left to manage itself "somehow". Thus next-generation
: business solutions must be focussed on supporting the creation of
: value by adding knowledge-rich components as an integral part to
: the work process. Therefore, an integrated approach is needed which
: combines issues from a large array of fields, originating from
: quite different areas such as business and organization sciences,
: cognitive sciences, and computer science.
:
: The PAKM Conference Series acknowledges the above situation and
: offers a communication forum and meeting ground for practitioners
: and researchers engaged in developing and deploying advanced
: business solutions for the management of knowledge and intellectual
: capital. We seek attendance and contributions from practitioners,
: researchers, and developers who work at the leading edge of
: Knowledge Management, pursuing integrated approaches which consider
: both, the technological side as well as the proper business side.
: PAKM is a forum for people to share their views, to exchange ideas,
: to develop new insights, and to envision completely new kinds of
: solutions to Knowledge Management problems. Like its predecessors,
: PAKM2000 will provide ample time for interaction and discussion.

:
: Mission: In this era of uncontrollable explosion of information technology
: (IT) and its applications,
: the gap between theory and practice, frameworks and applications keeps
: widening. This novel journal will focus on cases and applications that
: explain existing theories and concepts or that help in building new
: theories and frameworks. This journal should be of great value to
: professors and students as well as researchers and practitioners of IT. It
: is a refereed international quarterly journal that is supported
: by IT scholars from all over the world. Finally, the journal is
: international in all respects: content, article authorship, readership, and
: the editorial board.
:
: Scope and Coverage: JITCA will publish articles about cases and
: applications studies focusing on any
: size of organization: start-up, small, medium, large, or multinational
: company. These cases and
: applications can originate from any country in the world: advanced, newly
: industrialized, developing, or under-developed. Furthermore, the primary
: thrust of a case or application may include artificial intelligence,
: business process reengineering, cross-cultural issues, cybernetics,
: decision support systems, electronic commerce, firewalls and internet,
: groupware, human side of IT, information infrastructures,
: joint application development, knowledge based systems, local area
: networks, management information systems, neural networks, office
: automation, prototyping, query languages, robotics, systems analysis,
: telemedicine, ubiquitous computing, video-conferencing, webonomics, and so
: on.
:
: Generally, there will be two research articles and one teaching case
: article. Research articles will be based on actual case studies and/or
: applications studies utilizing case study, field study, and/or field
: experiment research methodology (JITCA, volume 1, number 4, editorial
: preface). Each teaching case submission to JITCA will include three
: components: the case itself, a summary research note, and a
: detailed teaching note. These three components will be reviewed as a
: package; the journal's decision to publish the case will be determined by
: the quality of the case itself and the accompanying research and teaching
: notes. The most important contribution of this journal will be to
: disseminate current and
: relevant IT cases and applications to educators, managers, practitioners,
: and researchers all over the
: world.
:
: Call for Manuscripts: The journal encourages manuscript submissions from
: authors all over the world,
: from academia, government, and industry. The journal will also include
: reviews of cutting edge IT books
: that have bearing on the journal's mission. Practitioner input will be
: regularly solicited from
: time-to-time through the industry editor(s) of JITCA. To utilize cutting
: edge IT, authors are strongly encouraged to make their submissions
: electronically to the editor-in-chief by attaching file(s) in appropriate
: format.
:
: Review Process: Each suitable article is double blind-reviewed by three
: members of the editorial review board. A final recommendation is made by
: the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with an Associate Editor. If a revision
: is recommended, the revised paper is sent for a final approval to one of
: the Associate Editors.
:
: Style: Submitted manuscripts must be written in the APA (American
: Psychological Association) editorial style. Footnotes are not allowed.
: Endnotes should be kept to a minimum; instead the material should be
: incorporated in the body of the paper. References should be listed in
: alphabetical order. The suggested length is about 20 pages not counting
: references, tables, and figures. The manuscript should be typed
: double-spaced.

: Final Paper Submission Deadline: October 1, 2000
: Conference Dates: November 16 - November 19, 2000
:
: Over the past few years, electronic commerce (EC) has emerged as a
: dramatic new mode of business. Today, almost every company is either
: using or considering EC. Also, advances in telecommunications and
: automated processes are already forcing dramatic changes in a variety
: of industries, ranging from banking and finance to music and
: entertainment. Yet, the TEC (telecommunications and electronic
: commerce) environment is still in a relatively early state of
: evolution, and many of the significant advances in understanding and
: implementing TEC are occurring concurrently in academia and industry.
: The traditional sequential process of technology innovation followed
: by technology transfer no longer applies. Thus, dialogue on this field
: between academia and industry is important. As TEC spans a wide
: range of reference disciplines, forums focusing on TEC are
: necessary to stimulate the necessary interactions and knowledge
: sharing across this broad community.
:
: ICTEC00 is intended to address these needs. Following on the heels of
: the successful second conference in 1999, the goal of the conference
: is to bring together both academic and industrial researchers in the
: fields of telecommunications and EC on an ongoing, annual basis, to
: discuss new technological developments and their implications for
: TEC, as well as technological issues that need to be addressed to
: further the effectiveness and efficiency of TEC. The conference
: combines research tracks in which technical papers will be presented,
: with industrial tracks consisting of panels, plenary speakers and
: exhibits.
:
: Topics of interest for the conference include (but are not limited to)
: the following:
:
: * Impact of EC on supply chain, distribution chain management, EDI and
: IOS
: * Secure transaction processing methods for electronic commerce
: * Design and analysis of multimedia applications on the Internet
: * The impact of mobility on EC mechanisms
: * Internet traffic management and analysis
: * Pricing Internet services
: * EC market mechanisms and business models
: * EC intermediary roles and their analysis
: * Electronic payment mechanisms
: * Economic analysis of intranets and extranets
: * Design and analysis of intranets
: * Data management issues in EC
: * Managing response time and content in Web-based information services
: * Effective management of electronic commerce transaction servers
: * EC developments and challenges in specific industries (e.g.,
: financial services, music, manufacturing, tourism, publishing)
: * Globalization issues in EC (standards, regulation, property rights,
: etc.)
:
: Authors should submit an extended abstract of at least 2,000 words, or
: a complete paper, to Ms. Dru Lundeng, Conference Manager, by July 1,
: 2000. In your submission letter indicate which of the Program
: Co-chairs should handle the paper. Three hard-copies should be
: submitted. Electronic submissions are welcome, but must be augmented
: with at least one hard-copy. Authors of accepted papers will be asked
: to submit their complete manuscripts to Ms. Lundeng, by October 1,
: 2000. Accepted papers that are presented at the conference will be
: included in the Conference Proceedings. Formatting instructions for
: accepted papers will be sent with the acceptance notice. All submitted
: papers will be considered for publication in the ACM/Baltzer
: Electronic Commerce Research journal
: (http://www.baltzer.nl/ecr/ecr.asp).
:
: Panels: Proposals for panels are also invited. Both academic and
: industry panels are encouraged. Each proposal should include a list of
: panelists with their affiliations. A brief statement explaining the
: motivation for the design and composition of the panel should also be
: included. The deadline for proposal submission to the program chair is
