:
: As we advance into the 21st century, we are being transformed into a more
: connected online electronic world where Internet and rapid advancements in
: technologies are reshaping our world. Just as businesses are adapting to an
: E-Commerce model, education and training will increasingly move online and be
: transformed as well. The transition could be described as a change from an
: off-line world characterized by periodic activities that take place in a
: synchronous, in person fashion to one of an online environment where both
: continuous and periodic activities can take place in either a synchronous or
: asynchronous fashion. With the proliferation of faster access lines and the
: advent of post-PC type digital computing appliances, online computing will
: truly become ubiquitous. Once in a world of ubiquitous computing one of the
: next challenges will be for computing systems to take on more of the duties
: of monitoring, assessing and providing appropriate information. Within the
: realm of education and training this could include the advancement of
: intelligent educational and training systems. Such systems might learn things
: about us from monitoring our online activities and develop a profile of us.
: These profiles may contain many different kinds of information ranging from
: our shopping preferences to our tendencies to watch more videos online than
: reading text-based information. Monitoring our electronic behavior may
: indicate our preferences as well as our cognitive and learning styles and
: consequently where there may be opportunities for individual development
: Collectively, this would redefine the world of education as we know it and
: redefine the roles of educators and administrators.
:
: This special issue of the International Journal of Expert Systems: Research
: and Applications is seeking papers that address the increasing importance of
: intelligent activities in the design and implementation of
: educational/learning systems. Emphasis is also placed on papers that address
: the impact of these intelligent activities on the traditional approaches to
: education/learning and the impact on individual learners, organizations, and
: society.
:
: Suggested topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
: * Improving the effectiveness of educational/learning systems
: * Applying intelligent agents to online education/learning
: * The design and implementation of intelligent activities to online
: education/learning
: * Profiling learners in an online environment
: * Application of learning theories to online education/learning
: * Creative management approaches to online infrastructure
: * Technologies needed for intelligent educational/learning systems
: * Impact of intelligent educational/learning systems on individuals,
: organizations and/or society
: * Integrating intelligent educational/learning systems in existing
: environments
: * Learning styles in an online educational/learning environment
: * Creating customized learning based on learner's cognitive abilities and/or
: learning styles
: * Learner preferences in an intelligent online education/learning systems
: * Intelligent asynchronous education/learning systems

: CALL FOR PAPERS
:
: Special Issue on
:
: "EVOLVING USE OF GROUPWARE"
:
: of the:
: COMPUTER SUPPORTED COOPERATIVE WORK:
: THE JOURNAL OF COLLABORATIVE COMPUTING
:
: published by Kluwer
:
: THEME
:
: More often than not, users appear to use groupware differently than the
: groupware designers intended. In particular, the organisation of their work
: and their working practices change over time as they 're-invent' the
: technology or even develop novel uses. Groupware should be able to meet the
: changing but unpredictable needs of groups - but how? And how may groups be
: helped to develop adequate working patterns or novel applications with this
: groupware?
: Understanding the processes of evolving groupware use is a first step
: toward answering these questions. Therefore a critical mass of long-term
: case studies is needed to analyse the dynamics of groupware use.
: Of equal importance is the development of conceptual frameworks to enable
: the comparison of these case studies. In the CSCW research community
: various theories are used to analyse such case studies, e.g.: Activity
: Theory, Structuration Theory, Adaptive Structuration Theory, Sociotechnical
: Systems Theory, Self-Organisation Theory, Situated Action Theory,
: Contingency Theory. These theories have to be assessed to which extent they
: are useful in understanding the evolving use of groupware and informing its
: design, introduction and use.
: This special issue will explore these questions in more depth by reporting
: on a variety of experiences, technical, empirical and theoretical, that
: illustrate and inform the issues and provide a resource to CSCW researchers
: and developers grappling with the issues of the evolving use of groupware.
:
: TOPICS OF INTEREST include, but are not limited to:
:
: - Longterm studies of evolving use of groupware
: - New theoretical frameworks for understanding appropriation processes
: - Comparison of different theoretical approaches
: - Assessment of existing theoretical approaches by means of case studies
: - Implications for the design of groupware
: - Implications for the introduction, maintenance and removal of groupware

:
: The management of constraints is an integral part of today's
: planning systems. It includes the simple orderings in POP
: systems as well as the exclusion relations of today's
: cutting-edge Graphplan-based planners. The need for
: expressive formalisms with efficient propagation and
: refinement techniques to extract solutions will grow further
: given the ongoing orientation toward real-world problems,
: which are constrained as regards temporal, spatial and many
: other resources. Constraint programming has much to
: contribute in this domain.
:
: The workshop will bring together researchers from the AI
: planning and the constraint programming (including SAT)
: communities. Despite early work to integrate activity
: planning and constraint reasoning, there has been little
: recent exchange between these communities. New interest is
: now being shown and results from the SAT field have already
: been integrated in some planners. The workshop will promote
: communication between researchers and seeks to highlight
: new and interesting ideas for combining planning with
: constraint programming. Topics of interest include:
:
: * Hybrid systems: separate planners and constraint solvers
: * Integrated systems
: * Rich plan representations allowing for a variety of
: constraints
: * Planning with resource constraints
: * Planning with nontrivial optimization goals
: * Specialized propagation techniques and labeling
: heuristics
: * Planning as constraint satisfaction/optimization
: * Extended CSP frameworks for handling planning problems
:
: In addition to paper presentations, there will be invited
: talks and panel discussions addressing the following topics:
:
: * What can constraint programming offer in terms of
: planning? What kind of problems can be tackled with which
: techniques?
: * How does a planning problem differ from a constraint
: satisfaction problem? Can we - and, if so, how can we -
: cope with these differences?
:
: --- ATTENDANCE ---
:
: Attendance will be limited to 40 participants. Participants
: will be selected based on refereed submissions. If you wish
: to attend but are not submitting a paper, please send a

: Call for Papers for the Mini Track
: 'Business Models for the Digital Economy'
:
: (cfp is also available at
: http://www.businessmedia.org/businessmedia/businessmedia.nsf/pages/cfp_amci…
: )
:
: This mini track serves as a forum for the presentation and discussion of new and
: innovative approaches of business models beyond e-commerce for coping with the
: challenges of the digital economy. The mini track is interested especially in
: papers with a clear economic focus.
:
: The development of business supported by information and communication
: technologies (ICT) can be assessed from two different perspectives. Electronic
: commerce, perceived as the utilization of the 'Net' and its services for
: additional communication, marketing, and sales channels, based on only very
: moderately changed business models, indicates an evolutionary path of
: development. However, beside this evolutionary development of electronic
: commerce stands a more revolutionary path of development.
:
: When examining the current appearances of business models, the following
: developments are perceivable: ongoing globalization, e.g., of procurement and
: sales activities; decomposition of products, e.g., in the music or publishing
: industry; emerging new and reconfigured products, e.g., in the music,
: publishing, or financial business; mass customization of services; concentration
: on core competencies; modularization of business; the break-up of traditional
: value chains and emerging value webs; the emergence of new types of
: intermediaries like portal sites or virtual banks; new services, e.g., payment,
: logistics, or trust-services; new technical platforms; the integration of
: customers into the value creation processes; and a shift of power towards
: customers due to an increasing transparency in ubiquitous electronic markets,
: customer and communication focus instead of product focus, and emerging virtual
: (business) communities. All these developments characterize the emerging digital
: economy and pose new challenges
: with which businesses must cope. This will quite clearly have a major impact on
: how business models must be designed in the digital economy. An economy based on
: the digitization of information and the accompanying information and
: communication infrastructure is considered a digital economy. The way in which
: economic values are created will fundamentally change in the digital economy and
: thus transform the general structure of economic systems.
: Therefore this mini track addresses all topics concerned with the analysis,
: design, development, and implementation of future business models for the
: creation of economic values in the digital economy from a communicative,
: organizational, business, economic, and managerial viewpoint.
:
: Possible Topics may include the following:
:
: - Challenges and foundations of the digital economy
: - Economics of future business models
: - Economical theories and the digital economy
: - Value Webs in the digital economy
: - Future business models and their impact on industry structures
: - Business communities and their relevance for future business models
: - The role of customer focus and customer relationships in future business
: models
: - Coordination mechanisms and their impacts on future business models
: - New products and services in the digital economy and their challenges for
: future business models
: - The role of generic market services in the digital economy
: - Communications management in the digital economy
: - Case studies / best practice
: - Design approaches for future business models
: - Models and modeling approaches for future business models.
