--- AIMS & SCOPE
Together with wireless communication technologies portable computers
and personal digital assistants (PDA) provide a pervasive base for mobile
computing. As the mobile computing technology matures, millions of
people will become mobile users communicating with one another and
accessing various information resources. In business environments,
the ability to access critical data regardless of location and time is
even more crucial because corporate data must be available to applications
running on mobile workstations.
On the other end of the spectrum, database and distributed systems
are instrumental in managing distributed information resources in fixed and
wireless network environments. Interoperability and standardization
have become the major features. However, existing DBMS and
distributed systems lack the mechanisms for dynamically changing the
environment where applications execute and the way they communicate over
a heterogeneous network. Mobile computing therefore involves mobility of
users, hardware, software and data.
The focus of this workshop is on mobility issues in distributed systems
and databases. The objective of this workshop is to bring together
researchers and practitioners with mobile networking background, database
research interests, advanced applications and distributed computing systems
research and development skills to discuss all aspects of emerging mobile
computing paradigm. Both the theoretical papers and papers reporting
implementation and practical results are solicited. The topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
o - Data models for mobile information systems
o - Impact of mobility in distributed applications
o - Theoretical frameworks for mobility
o - Software architectures for mobile distributed computing systems
o - Wireless communications support for mobile applications
o - Infrastructure for mobile computing research
o - Object oriented technologies for mobile computing
o - Mobile database management and mobility-aware data servers
o - Operating system support for mobile computing
o - Adaptability and content management
o - Security models for mobile computing
o - Mobile transaction and workflow management & models
o - Management of network & mobile computers heterogeneity
o - Data & process migration, replication and recovery
o - Mobile agents and code
o - Distributed mobile objects
o - Wireless multimedia systems
o - Mobile access to Internet and WWW services
o - User interface management for mobile information systems
o - Resource allocation and management in mobile computing environment
