This International Seminar is being organised jointly by two Working Groups
within SEFI: the Information and Communication Technologies Working Group (ICT
Group) and the Curriculum Development Working Group (CDWG) and is being
hosted by the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI, Galway).
The Organising Committee anticipates participation from a wide
cross-section of people involved in the education of engineers and is
inviting papers from teachers,
programme co-ordinators and administrators, software developers and
courseware providers from third level institutions and industry.
Theme and scope
The theme of the Seminar is "THE IMPACT OF ICT ON THE CURRICULUM".
Papers (in English) are invited on, but not limited to, the following
topics of interest:
Interactive tutorials and staff/student,
student/student dialogue
Project-based teaching using ICT
Pedagogical aspects
Dedicated laboratory/computer software
Digital libraries/databases
Presentation software
Administrative and curriculum information dissemination
Virtual and computer-based learning environments
Web publishing
Media competencies
In addition to describing technical aspects of software/hardware,
contributors are asked to address such questions as: how the system is
implemented, what are the
experiences/effects of its implementation, what is its relation to the
curriculum, and how does the system support or assist the learning process.
In addition,
contributors are expected to provide a realistic demonstration of the
system described and, if appropriate, show delegates how they might develop
or replicate
similar systems themselves.
Submission of Abstracts
Interested authors are asked to submit an abstract of about 250 words, and
make a preliminary registration. Authors will be notified as to the
suitability of their
contribution to the Seminar theme following a professional review process.
Papers must be written and presented in English and will be limited to no
more than 10
pages in length. Authors of accepted abstracts will be requested to produce
a camera-ready version of the full paper, which will then be subjected to
peer review.
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit abstracts, papers and complete
the registration procedures via the Seminar web page
(http://indeng.nuigalway.ie/ict2001/), which will be kept up-to-date with
relevant information and facilities.
